Hello,
I noticed, to my delight, that chlorella is one of the few supps that Alissa (sells) recommends here. I luv chlorella and spirulina... but i have cut way back on my consumption due to reading that they are too strong and affect us hormonally. What is the true picture ? I would like to climb back to 15 grams of each /day.
Best,
Dimond

As long as you're using a good quality raw, organic one similar to the chlorella Alissa sells, it should be fine. Tons use and like both.

I've never heard about either affecting hormones in a negative way, but anything is possible I suppose. If so, it must be a very minor issue otherwise there'd be a lot more info regarding it. Just google it and you'll find positive info with both. As with all food and supplements, just pay attention to how you feel when using it.

I wouldn't worry about the Hormonal effect of Chlorella. I don't think its a Gender Supplement. I think it Feeds your Body and Meets the NEEDS your Body requires.

Thanks for the feedback,
Sometimes the infos here on the net are confusing and contradictory. I really think both spirulina and chlorella have a huge amount to offer in terms of health, healing and energy.
Before starting my raw journey, I lived on the atlantic coast for seven years and I ate fish almost every day. That may have caused a high level of heavy metals in my body. Chlorella has been very useful in lowering the contaminants in my system.
Starting today, I am going to feel my way back to higher consumption of both spirulina and chlorella.
Thanks again for the feedback,

Rick2009? Another excellent cleanser for metal toxins is Cilantro! You can either add it to smoothies, salads, or THIS is really good!
Cilantro Pesto
1 clove garlic
1 cup almonds, cashews, or other nuts
1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves
2 tablespoons lemon juice
6 tablespoons olive oil
Put the cilantro and olive oil in blender and process until the cilantro is chopped. Add the rest of the ingredients and process to a lumpy paste. (You may need to add a touch of hot water and scrape the sides of the blender.) You can change the consistency by altering the amount of olive oil and lemon juice, but keep the 3:1 ratio of oil to juice. (It freezes well, so you can make several batches at once.)

Health Benefits of Cilantro
Cilantro is known to be rich in phytonutrients, flavonoids and active phenolic acid compounds, all of which are good for you. There are no definitive studies on cilantro but many believe that it and the seeds (often called coriander), have been found to help control blood sugar, lower cholesterol and fight inflammation and free radicals. There is further speculations that cilantro may also have antimicrobial properties.
There is also considerable literature speculating that cilantro may be an effective chellation therapy for people who have excess mercury in their systems. Some think that mercury poisoning could be the result of metallic teeth fillings. Every time a person with fillings chews, the fillings release minute amounts of mercury gas that may be breathed into the system (swallowing mercury is actually far less toxic than breathing it). Of course, this is all speculative and disputed. Nevertheless, many people who have suffered from mercury poisoning and the "brain cloud" it causes have reported fairly rapid relief by the consistent consumption of cilantro over a period of just a few weeks.
Cilantro is also reported to deal effectively with other metals in the system. Consumption of about two teaspoons of cilantro pesto daily for three or four weeks may have beneficial effects.

Hey Rick2009 -

Hey Tauperawman,
I read it in a forum..and presumed that it was correct. I don"t recall any type of issues being mentioned. It just said to take very low quantities because of its strength and the hormonal thing. Thats what I have done... dropped my consumption to 10% of what it was.. I wish I could find the quote.. it was a short post. I have begun to up my comsumption..The chlorella is important to me since I have heavy metal issues.

I read this book recently:
Achieving Great Health -- How Spirulina, Chlorella, Raw Foods and Ionized Water Can Make You Healthier than You Have Ever Imagined by Bob McCauley (Author), Dr. Gabriel Cousens (Foreword), and Peter Ragnar
As you can see Gabriel Cousens wrote the forward. This book was written by a raw foodist that studied the health benefits of Spirulina and Chlorella. The biggest issue I have heard of with these is to make sure you buy from a good source. I purchased chlorella from Alissa's store and I bought my spirulina from a company in Austrailia.
