Hello -

I was given two huge containers of coconut oil.

I was wondering what your favorite recipes were that use coconut oil.

Please share!

Thanks

Katie

Chocolate Fudge (use smaller amts, esp. less coconut oil)
½ cup Carob powder
1 cup Coconut oil/butter
¼-½ cup Agave
Optional: Salt
Optional: ½ cup Almond butter
Mix or blend.

You can probably use cacao if you prefer it.

Coconut oil works great as a thickening agent when you're making sauces, curries, smoothies, puddings, etc. Blending often requires more liquid than one might desire in a dish. One way to counteract this is to blend in some melted coconut oil, and the mixture will thicken at a reasonably low temperature.

I recently did a warm lemon-butter sauce with coconut oil. Blend about 6 parts coconut oil/ 1 part pecans with lemon juice and salt to taste. Serve warm over vegetables.

Spreadable, meltable nut butters are quick and easy. Put the nuts in the blender and add melted coconut oil to just below the level of the nuts. Salt and sweeten to taste. Blend and refrigerate.

I could go on and on, but I'm off to work...

This is amazing for your skin. Keep a jar in the shower. The heat will melt it. A little goes a long way!! so, don't do a big scoop. do it while still damp, be sure to get bottoms of your feet, elbows. In a few weeks they'll be much smoother...start filing your feet if you don't already. It's good for the ends of hair & face too.

Yeah, my mom always used it on my scalp and body. But now that someone asked for recipes and I'm reading through these delicious entries, my stomach is growling. I guess I never thought to use it for eating. What a novel idea. lol

I put some in my smoothies. Also make sure it is virgin and smells like coconut, otherwise it's extracted with chemicals.

Hello Katie,

I don't know if you realise but this website is nearly 7 years old. That means that there is a wealth of information and recipes here and in the archives of this site. What it does mean is that to get the most out of this site you need to be proactive and use the banana search icon, or you will miss out on most of what is here!

Too many newbies come to this site and are too lazy to take the initiative to find what they want and want it handed to them on a platter! So here's a free tip, when in doubt use the banana!

There are plenty of other recipes as well, a good place to look is gone raw dot com.

Here's a fantastic recipe for chocolate custard I concocted a couple of days ago using coconut oil.

Meat of 2 young thai coconuts
4 soaked dates (no need to soak them really if you have a good blender, but I did)
Coconut oil (maybe 2 to 3 tablespoons, I don't measure)
Pinch of celtic salt
1 black sapote (chocolate pudding fruit) or a tablespoon of cacao powder.

Blend till creamy.

I use black sapotes when I can get them, they are a fresh source of that 'chocolate' flavour and are wonderful.

I am looking for a Coconut Mayonnaise that does not require nuts...

If we all did this no one would post any new questions and the board would be "dead".

Not a recipe... but you could also try "oil pulling" with your coconut oil. I've been doing it every morning with a spoonful of coconut oil (letting it warm in my mouth first)... and I really look forward to it now! Plus, it tastes yummy while you're swishing. I can't say for sure how it's changed my health, cause I started doing a bunch of healthy things at the same time -- but I do feel it is doing something. My skin is super-soft. And I feel it is helping drain mucus in the morning. ... just a suggestion, since I have yet to try coconut oil in a recipe.

cheers!

at times, it can take a very long time to find a certain recipe you're looking for if you do not know what specific phrase to use, so the search could make someone leave the site. Also, in the 4yr time period, many recipes have evolved that may not be posted.

D.nitty....if the CO is to oily for you face, use it on other places..feet, hands, legs. I put it on my face in the shower then rinse with very warm water. It gets the extra off. I had breakouts when I used too much.

If you can get your hands on the raw dessert recipe book called
Sweet Gratitude, there is a lovely cheesecake section. Almost every cheesecake recipe uses approx 5 Tablespoons of melted coconut oil, and I can tell you from experience that these are scrumptious.,:p

If you want more info, feel free to private message me.

I also love mixing coconut oil with raw chocolate, and agave , and then freezing the raw chocolate mixture with chopped nuts, and raspberries (or chopped cherried) and making them into cluster shapes and keeping them in the freezer for a chocolate delight snack.

Can you explain what you mean by melted coconut oil. I've read this a few times and I do not understand how people melt oil? I live in the Philippines and all the coconut oil we have here is already liquid, so how do you melt it?

Sorry soulstar if this sounds silly but I really do not understand.

I just melted some in my dehydrator yesturday! You can also set the coconut jar in warmish water to melt it, but I have found the dehydrator works better!:)

Lan, up here in the northern climates the coconut oil is solid at room temperature. Solid to semi solid depending on the temperature.
