Okay, So I have tried a few of the recipes posted here.

1. Kale chips....hard to find a good recipe without nuts and without tahini....it turned out okay.

2. Raw cheez itz- pretty good, but I am having a hard time making them seem crunchy enough.

3. Onion bread- I don't know if I am even going to be able to consume that. I thought about cutting the nama shoyu in half, but thought since it was my first time making it that I ought to follow the recipe. WOW SALTY!!! and that is an understatement.

Any great suggestions to wow my somewhat SAD DH? I need some really good sesame/tahini free and nut free recipes to make this week before DH leaves again for extended travel.

Thanks

Suggestion ... if you're not sure about a recipe always make half (or less) to start with, it will save you a lot of $$$. I have found that there is something unique to raw food, you can taste as you go more so than with cooked food. I would never think of tasting an uncooked casserole but with raw YOU CAN, especially with seasonings taste as you add so that you can avoid some of the pitfalls (like too much salt). If you like what a cracker tastes like before you dehydrate it, it is likely you will like it after you dehydrate it, obviously it will taste more intense once dehydrated but at least you can get an idea. And there will be things that others RAVE about like the onion crackers that you may just not like (I don't either).

Blessings,
Heather

It takes awhile to be able to tell if you'll like a recipe. You might find that it is a certain ingredient in recipes that you dont like. For example, I do not like dried fig desserts or a huge amounts of dates. So when I see those ingredients I know that I can sub honey, banana etc. But when you are first starting out you have to kind of trust what other people say..and follow their recipes. Miahtay is right on about only making a small amount the first time--raw recipes can be expensive--nothing worse than throwing away a $30 recipe. (other than forcing yourself to eat that recipe hahha)

When you do find a recipe that you like, try the other things that that person reccommends--as he/she might have similar tastes. You know there are some sad eaters that like carrot raisin gellatin surprise..we all have different ideas of what is delicious..

Look through photo threads as the old adage is true, a picture is worth a thousand words. You'll understand the recipe in a more thorough way--and its usually the recipes that are actually good that get their pictures taken=p

As far as wowing your husband..does it need to be nut free? or nut free for you? And why nut free?

Wow great ideas that I have neve rheard before. Yes make half recipes...less to throw away right...if it has to be.

And pictures I like that.

Seeing someone with similar tastes as yours....brilliant.!!!

I LOVE raw fixing in that, you can taste as you go and it is delish usually at every stage.

I have yet to meet a kale chip I like. People rave about them but its not a fave for me.

Basically what has been said. Half recipes etc

I too am not a salt fan, so tend to cut salty ingredients to half or less. And I love kale chips, Yummy!

I need nut free for my toddler. I am not ready to give her nuts yet and she wants a bite of everything that we have. SHe is also allergic to sesame/tahini :(. When I discovered that I was really sad as I LOVE hummus.

My son is allergic to nuts so we tend not to use them. I also use Tamari sparingly and buy the low sodium. You can make Faux Namoshoyu or however it is spelled by using a port and some sea salt and water.
I use sunflower seeds inplace of nuts. I make sunflower parfaits. I use hemp or flax when possible.
Make some raisen flax crackers very good http://www.purelydelicious.net/flaxcrackers.htm
We all love these and no nuts..
I make quick and easy desserts a frozen banana and strawberries in the food processor. Drizzle some date cacoa syrup over it add some pineapples. Last night I used strawberry syrup I made with strawberries and sweetner.
Make pudding with avocado and bananas and vanilla drop some chunks of banana in it for texture. I call it nutless pistachio pudding.
Make mango icecream soaked dehydrated mangos and frozen mango whirl and eat!
Make some of Zions raw cookies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_gfdStODZM&NR=1 she is so cute to watch making her cookies.

Remember recipes are suggestions (make them how you would like them). Taste them as you go and remember that onions and garlic get stronger as they dehydrate.

Sprouts2 go

Zion was really cute!

The raisin flax was a broken link.

Is port always a red wine base? If so, I get extreme headaches from red wine...not white. I would love alternative to namu shoyu.

THanks
