My friend made a cheesecake at my house. She left with the bottom only.
Today it came back rusted.
Now what do I do to replace?
What are you all using for make many cheesecakes. This was a NEW pan too.
Now lesson:
No more allowing any UNcooking tools to leave my house.
No more books either leaving and hasn't for years.
Thanks.
Bummer.

Bummer but two things came to mind. First. Write (e-mail) to the company. Hopefully they will replace it. Second how good of a friend is she? Could you mention to her it came back rusted?

You can line it with parchment paper if all else fails.

Tell her to buy you another one and She can have that one. I don't borrow and don't lend. I will give it away. No one take care of your things like you do. God Bless the Child that's Got his own.

I have one that did that. It happens, particularly to the cheapie chain store brand pans. Most likely though, she put it in the dishwasher. Eventually I want to buy a glass-bottom springform pan (http://www.lehmans.com/store/Kitchen___Helpers_and_Accessories___Glass_Bottom_S pringform_Pan___1007310?Args=&from_search=1).

Thanks for the info about the springform pan. I am going to make a cheese cake today. I have a laforme kaiser backfrom 9 inch with additional bottoms and its only been washed by hand. I do want to buy another pan. Most of the time i have to double the recipe because a 9 inch is too big for some recipes.

Hi Cris,
Great idea. I need to hunt for that local glass bottom.
I also have a cute heart shaped mold and much smaller.
I am wondering if a glass plate would also work. I have some I can plate with that are flat like the picture. Suppose a good excuse to hit the thrift store and do my return for an item today.
So you just use the bottom glass part and a regular mold.

I told the girl when I saw that in person and she said "alum" never rusted for her.
She came deathly sick w/severe migraine. However it was a $4.99 pan so a VALUABLE LESSON!
Never lend out anything. I just should have cut the darn cheesecake in 4th and used four paper plates for her to bring home and not have to think "return." Well it was 2 weeks later and it arrived.
She's visiting here for another 2 months, super nice person, is a super care taker to her living relatives to the max.
I'll cough up the price and never again lend!!
Thanks all for your wisdom.
Having to live my decision to not go back and try to recoup.
She has a granddaughter 3 with type 1 diabetes and was deathly also sick other day. She has her hands full and glad it is not mine.
