I harvested my only pumpkin yesterday, it was still a tad green but mostly ornage and the critters were after it.

Anyhoo, so for dinner I had a salad with a bit of grated pumkin on it. much softer than grated sweet potato, btw.

After the salad, I made a spicy pumpkin soup in the vitamix. It turned out 1/2 spicy, 1/2 like pumpkin pie due to to the spices I put in.

About an hour later I got up off the couch and was very dizzy. I was dizzy all evening and a bit off this am.

I was worried pumkin wasn't meant to be eaten raw...I googled it up, but found nothing.

Anyone know anything about eating raw pumpkin???

I don't know with certainty, but here is what I suspect. Melons are cucurbits and you can eat the other cucurbits, cucumbers and squash, raw. I suspect it may be due to being imcompletely ripe. I can get itchy hands from handling an unripe melon, as well as itchy or burning throat, mouth, or lips from eating certain unripe fruits or veggies. I have heard before what it is that can cause this but don't recall. Not in the sense of an allergy, but something going on in the fruit. Maybe it has to do with enzyme inhibitors as happens in nuts/seeds. I sometimes get the same sensation from raw nuts, come to think of it. I suppose it is possible to feel dizzy also as reaction.

Pumpkin is pretty starchy. So I personally wouldn't recommend eating it raw. It's kind of like eating raw butternut squash.

Love it raw, i don't seem to have any reaction. I make also nice pumpkin pie with it. Sorry that you don't seem to do well. What about trying again with nothing else new.
