I've got both blenders. LOVE my VM because I can do one HUGE smoothie in the a.m.; divide it in 3rd's and I'm good-to-go for the day. I've had it for about 14 years. I travel with my Blend-Tec which I've had for about 5 years now.
My personal VM connection (east coast time) ~

There is a third option blender that apparently doesn't heat up and is quick because of a larger blade as per Matt Monarch.
I have a Vitamix, i love it. I tried the Blend tech, i didn't like it. I don't like programmable, i prefer controlling the speed myself. Plus the warranty on the Vitamix are amazing and very good.
Hope you figure out the best blender for you

I think they are almost exactly the same. I chose the VM because the warranty is longer. but when I was looking at the watts and everything they were the same.

Loving my Blend-tec here, ever since I got it out of the box earlier in the summer! Since I have limited counter space with those overhead cabinets in my apartment kitchen, I had to have something that fit underneath them and the Blend-tec filled the bill. But you know, it was raweater's enthusiastic review awhile back, plus actually getting to use one, that sold me on the Blend-tec. Easy clean-up too, as someone else said!

I liked that I could store the carafe on the blender.
I store my VM carafe on the blender...what do ya mean about this?
I like that it doesn't have the blender stick.
Just to let the OP know, the VM comes with a top so you don't have to use the tamper. But I use that wonderful tamper for everything! And it comes with it free.
Nothing against darling Deb--just pointing things out from a VM user perspective! :)

Hi fruitandveggies ~ With the height of my overhead cabinets, I wouldn't have had enough room to store the carafe on the VM base as it sits taller than a BT. ;)
Oh to have a big kitchen! *Ü*

Ahhh, makes sense! Yes, I am lucky to have a teeny bit of counter space without cabinets above it. Still, a big kitchen would be my dream come true!! :D
