I started yesterday and have no idea how long I will go. Right now, it doesn't seem for long. I hate the taste! I just printed out the 70 recipes and will see if something there sounds good.

I am using mostly greens, which I'm sure is the problem. I am straining it thru a nut mylk bag and I hoped I wouldn't find it so disgusting because of the texture but it still makes me gag.

I made 5 quarts yesterday and drank 2 1/2. One of them was watermelon juice. So far today, I've only had 1.5 cups of greens and a glass of water.

I've been hesitant to add much fruit because of blood sugar problems but am thinking of trying to add more fruit in the belief it will all even out since it's so healthy.

Also, when doing the juice feasting, do you guys really do daily enemas? Getting everything done in the morning takes almost 3 hrs between making the juice for the day, enema, dry brushing, shower, etc. I'm so tired!

I want to heal but I want it to taste at least decent if not EXCELLENT! :D

70 recipes? Aren't those the 70 green smoothie recipes? Green smoothies and juice are two different things and just because a green smoothie recipe tastes good it doesn't mean it'll taste good as juice.

Here's a few suggestions:

keep your juices simple... 3 or less ingredients
allow yourself to drink fruit juice *unless you have blood sugar issues*
keep it yummy... you won't fast long is you don't

relax about the enemas (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/05/enemas-colonics-and-swfs-oh-my.html), etc - do what you want to or have time for... there is no specific way to fast... you can make it your own unique way.

i skin brush off and on... more off than on to be honest.
i have never done an enema or colonic (and i fasted for 262 days last year)
i existed on fruit juices waaaaaay more than green juices although i did have an amazing tomato juice that i called soup for dinner every night. (tomatoes are a fruit as is cucumber, peppers... )
i drank however much i wanted... and didn't force myself to drink X amount in a day.
i also didn't limit myself if i wanted more juice one day.

i started every morning with a litre (or two) of water... before beginning with juices.

have a happy fast!

yes...drink what you want or need during the day. I dry brush daily but I only take 20 minutes a few times a week..it's a quick one. I know making juice to take can take some time but try to get it together the night b4, it will save you time.
I love watermelon/cantelope juice. I've never done colonic or enema either. I go several times a day & the morning after I have watermelon....I go a lot.

Aleesha,

I agree with you about the juice feasting vs. green smoothies but I was attempting to do the program from JuiceFeasting.com and it's mostly what would be referred to as green smoothies.

I was dx'd with diabetes recently but my blood sugar has been stable right under the pre-diabetic numbers. I'll take that for now and want to get it lower. I'm thinking I will do more fruit juice and watch my numbers.

Thanks for the blog link. I will check it out. I would love to continue for a few months and release weight and feel better. I'm just going with the flow and will see what happens.

Margoss - thanks for the reply and support. Cantelope juice sounds so good right now and I have one at home. Dinner!!

I started my first juice fast also on Sunday (so today is day 4) and I want first of all say THANK YOU so much for your awesome blog. I have gone back to it over and over these past days finding info about fasting and also about emotions and feelings through all of this.. It feels like I'm releasing all my emotions as well as toxins.. sort of like I don't want to keep them inside me anymore.

I'm not sure if you remember me but I was doing some searches about my juicer and found an old post from last year at this time that you answered my question to (so same question then as now but I forgot about it). :) I also was very curious then about juice fasting but was afraid I wouldn't get through it.

..fast forward to now when I've just been having such a hard time staying raw that I decided to go for it. I'm hoping it will renew my passion for being raw.. I don't know how long I will go for, however I really wanted to last more than 3 or 4 days because I wanted to see if my hunger really did go away. So far it's amazing how I am not hungry, except for late nights when I think it's more cravings than hunger so I get through it.

I've been loving the juices I am making so I agree ..sticking with 3 or 4 ingredients has been successful for me. The only thing I didn't like was broccoli, lol, which I juiced because it was in the fridge and I didn't want it to go to waste. Yuck!

Can you give me the recipe for your tomato juice? I have some tomatoes and if I have all the ingredients I would love to make it.

I also change daily in the amount of juice I am making. I only juice when I feel I want it, but try to do some celery and greens every day. Not sure if this is the right way but am trying to listen to my body. :)

Thanks so much Aleesha!! :) I didn't even think about adding spices to my juices! I am definitely going to try this today.. not sure about the curry, I'm a little scared but maybe I will separate some of the juice to a small cup and try it. You never know, I might just like it!

ps - Congrats on your pregnancy! That is so awesome for you!!! :D

do it do it do it!!!

Okay, so tried your tomato juice with the curry (well, had to improvise on a veggie or two but got the tomatoes in) and I LOVED it! :D I have tried curry a few times and didn't like it so I was shocked how yummy it was! I made it again later and I think put too much cayenne in though because after drinking it my mouth was burning, lol.. It was still good though! I am going to get the veggies that you used and try it with them next time (have to take a trip to the market first though). Thanks for sharing!!! :)

ShantiDass, are you still on the feast? Did you try the spices? If not it's a good way to "spice it up", lol.. pun intended..

mmmm.. sounds very yummy! I haven't juiced garlic yet but I will soon.. I don't have kelp powder but will look around for it. Still unclear as to what will or will not break my fast so I'm trying to be careful. :)

BTW.. felt sluggish this morning but after I juiced this afternoon I got such a rush I almost felt like I had taken 2 excedrin! Which has caffeine.. It was crazy! I am a little calmer now but am so awake and aware! I've never felt this way without taking caffeine!!

Oh.. one thing I read (which I never believe everything I read but I do take note) is that on your first fast you shouldn't go more than 7 or 8 days and that it's pointless and it's nothing but ego (this wasn't on a raw site but another that promoted juicing).. I don't think I want to stop yet though.. I feel like I just got through the bad part and don't want to miss the best of this.. that to me sounds pointless.. (and it's definitely NOT ego.. I lost that long ago, lol). I don't really have a time frame but kind of want to do it at least 30 days. Would that be bad since this is the first time I've fasted?

Okay so went back and read your recipe again and for some reason I thought you had other things in it besides tomatoes. Today we went to the farmers market and got some german johnsons and I decided to try your recipe again. So I juiced 3 tomatoes and used all your ingredients but I put a smidge of paprika (I like that spice) and OMG!!!! It was awesome! I let my husband try it and he was blown away! He said I have my bloody mary recipe that I've been wanting.. I've been looking for a raw bloody mary recipe forever, virgin of course, because I just love the mix and I've never come close to it, until now!! Wow! Thanks so much again for this! It was awesome!! :D

Aleesha,
I am interested in trying juice fast/feast... But I am not ready to make the commitment of not eating AT ALL... Can I start off with MOST meals replaced by juice and say maybe for lunch, I grab a salad?? Would that still aid in detoxing my body?

I am also interested in your tomato recipe because it sounds almost like a soup!! Can I juice fresh onions and garlic instead of the power?? Have you tried it before? Can I warm the "soup"? I am asking this because I know that heat boosts the absorption of lycopene, so strictly speaking... cooked tomatos are better than raw.

"Tomato samples were heated to 88 degrees Celsius for two minutes, 15 minutes and 30 minutes. Consistent with previous studies, vitamin C content decreased by 10, 15 and 29 per cent respectively when compared to raw, uncooked tomatoes. However, the research revealed that the beneficial trans-lycopene content of the cooked tomatoes increased by 54, 171 and 164 per cent respectively."-foodnavigator.com

Thanks! ;)
