Hey everybody! Our local newspaper, the Riverfront Times, just released a cover story this week on the raw food diet. I'm featured prominently in it, as are several other locals. Overall, I think it's pretty balanced, but I'm sure there are things that need to be added/ addressed. Please check it out and add comments (either here on RFT or on the newspaper's site) - I'd love to hear some feedback from the community!

I found the article quite interesting, & fairly accurate, though with some obvious glitches due to the ignorance of the writer...the summary of the history of the raw food movement was good, though certainly didn't need to include the irrelevant reference to the rapist.
I personally would like to forward it to numerous people, but won't due to the crude vulgarity it contains (I find that particular swearword gross, as a mother...)
Though it's not much, it's enough that I won't bother.
It's funny how the newspaper is RFT, too!

Very interesting. I grew up in St. Louis and still have many relatives there. But I never met a raw fooder there.

I just read the article the writer seems to have spoken/looked into the raw food movement really well but it smacks of someone coming off as though they think we are all weirdos a cult if you will and I did not really like the way he/she came across. It is nice learning of others in St Louis although I am in SE MO it would be nice to speak and maybe meet other plus there are apparent classes so it had some good info for me in that respect.

I enjoyed it and laughed a few times. Of course, they had to put the rapist in there...like no carnivors are rapist. Otherwise...good info. I like the part about the Chef.
Something did click..the part about going to the grocery store & never leaving the produce section:D. I thought about this the other day. I was walking down a few isles looking and I said, "Why am I even here, I don't buy this anymore. I'm wasting my time." The next time, I went to produce & left.

Hey all, thanks for your interest, and hope you liked it.
Margoss - the rapist they mentioned is actually one of those crazy raw omnivores, who eats raw meat. I don't know if that's related to his pathologies, but it certainly might be!
Beth - I didn't think it came across as us being all that weird/cultish... why did you think that? I was really worried about that being the case, but was relieved when I read the article.
Vegan - I actually did mention Alissa and many other people. We talked for probably 12 hours for this piece, so there was just TONS of info that got cut. Please leave comments on the newspaper's website, and feel free to give Alissa a shout-out!! :)
Anastazia - I'm so sorry you were offended by my language. I know a lot of people were, so you weren't alone! When I said that, I was talking to the author more like I talk to buddies my age, and never thought they would print it... like I said above, we talked for many hours about this, and sometimes it was very informal. I'll know to be more careful next time :) I think it's a pity that that one word would keep you from sending along information you think might help others. But I'd like to apologize for offending you -- and anyone else.
If anyone has other thoughts on the article, the newspaper's website is a great place to post!

This was a really nice piece. The bits of profanity you spouted didn't bother me at all, but I thought that part about r@ping children could have been left out. I'm not fond of being roped in with people who are "batshit crazy" in a bad way....
BTW, my supervisors and co-workers call my green smoothies "Angie's mud."
"What kind of mud did you bring in today?"
I just chuckle and promise them that it really DOES taste like bananas and raspberries.
