View Full Version : Champion juicers, nut butter, and coconuts?

I've heard that champion juicers can make great nut butters. But, with a juicer, aren't you not getting the whole nut? I mean doesn't the juicer only extract part of the nut and remove the pulp or whatever? Or is there a separate application for making nut butters/pate type things?

Along the same lines, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried making coconut butter with (or without) a champion juicer?? I'd be very interested to know if this works!

thank you!! :)

you put the blank on instead of the screen, so you get the whole processed nut. not much juice in nuts tho.

that's right. instead of putting in the screen for the juice to fall through... you put in a solid piece called a blank. it forces everything that goes into the juicer out the end.

and there is your totally creamy nut butter!!!

Is using the Champion easier than doing it in the blender? I like the results I get from my Blendtec.

Thanks.

I've tried making almond butter in my BlendTec and just can't get it to come out.

Annie ~ how do you make yours?

I haven't tried it in the Champion, although I've watched them do it at the health food store using roasted almonds and peanuts and using a Champion.

Can someone who makes nut butter with the Champion elaborate? Or is is simply use the blank plate and dump in the nuts..? *Ü*

I just bought a juicer recently, and almost bought the Champion, as I always thought it was king of juicers. However, after reading the website closely, I read that the Champion does not do wheatgrass well and others did. I ended up with an Omega, 8006, I think, and I love it. If you haven't yet bought your juicer, you may want to look around. There are a ton of choices these days. And if you have no desire to ever do wheatgrass juice, then may not matter.

Awesome, thanks everyone!!
I may look into getting a juicer then.
Anyone have info about the coconut though? Can one make coconut butter? That would be my main purpose in obtaining a juicer as I love coconut but want to make it in a more convenient form (as a college student)
Anyone tried this??
Thanks!!!

Hi ~ What are you looking for as far as coconut butter? Do you mean like Artisana's brand? Would this be made from the brown/hairy coconuts? *Ü*

OMG Lunarfey,

You're back. You've been much missed by me, young lady! How are you? Is everything Ok now? Are you still at home or have you moved out.

I really hope things are going much better for you.

Lots of love, and big hugs from me to you. And I really mean that.

You go girl.

YOu might also want to try a Thermomix : http://www.vorwerk.com/thermomix/html/service.html

I use the champion juice to make coconut cream. It turns out lovely!

I simply put the blank plate in and feed the coconut pieces in (I slice the brown skin off so I have lovely white cream and pulp. The coconut cream comes out like a thick milk and thickens up to a cream in the fridge.

You can pipe it onto cakes or use it as an icing, topping for milkshakes, there are tons of uses for it!

I use unsoaked almonds. I think that is part of the "secret." Then I blend, scrape down, repeat, repeat, repeat......... It takes awhile, but I make a lot at one time because it keeps so well. It is really yummy.

Thank you Annie - I tried it once in the BlendTec (with unsoaked almonds) and they just plastered up along the sides of the carafe no matter how much scraping down I did. I even ended up adding oil and got a mess :(

How much almonds would you say you used at a time? Do they start getting too hot with the extended blending?

I really would like to try and make my own. *Ü*

Hi klomasius ~ I've never done this before... are you using the brown hairy coconuts to make your cream? *Ü*

Klomasius, I was wondering the same thing: Young coconut or old coconut?

DebB,
I was looking to make my own sort of coconut butter type thing out of mature coconuts (the ones with brown on the outside) as those are the kind I can obtain. It looks like it is possible and if I end up getting a juicer I am definitely going to try it, sounds delicious! Let me know if you end up trying it :)

Aleesha,
thanks for the link! I am looking to make something like that on my own :)

Kyrie,
Hi and thanks so much for the warm welcome! I am in my freshman year of college right now and so I'm living in a student apartment. My blender is soo loud, my poor roommates (and entire floor, who probably wonder what on earth is going on), lol. It is THAT loud..but I just have to have my green smoothies. ;) And I have found that I get along muchhh better with my mom while not living with her. things are looking up. thanks again! *returns hugs*

Klomasius, thank you for telling me what I was hoping to hear! lol yayyy! that sounds sooo delicious. Now I shall have to get a job and get a juicer for sure lol. If you are using the "blank plate" does that mean the coconut cream is still a whole food, or are there parts extracted? thanks so much for the info :)
mmm coconut is so delicious, I can't wait. and you are using mature coconuts, yes?

Good luck Lunar*Fey ~ It all sounds so delicious! Just today I watched Paul Nison's YouTube (http://paulnison.blogspot.com/2009/09/raw-coconut-blueberry-ice-cream.html) and his guest making coconut cream in the juicer to then make ice cream.

I don't think it's quite what you had in mind as he was actually 'juicing' the mature coconut rather than homogenizing it. But it was still fun to watch! A couple really neat gadgets for mature coconuts were demoed as well. *Ü*

Hi Guys & Girls;

I've always been a big juice fan ever since my 'new age' parents introduced us to the freshness and convenience of juicing, as children. I've also heard good things about the Omega range of juicers, but personally I've always had a 'soft spot' for the Breville fountain juicer...

Like most things though , I think the best juicer is the one that fits YOUR needs....lol, for some a high performance appliance with multi speeds is perfect, where as other appliances specialise in masculating wheatgrass.....as mentioned , there are now so many good juicers on the market but it does really pay to do your homework.

Lunar, the coconut is juiced, which means that the coconut meat pulp comes out the end and the milky liquid comes out where the juice normally comes out.

The coconut pulp is like a wet version of desiccated coconut. I often dry it and use it in cookies, crackers, muesli etc.

Hope it isn't too long till you've save for your very own juicer! :D
