I started raw a couple of days ago I dont seem to be very hungry which is a surprise for me.. I eat a couple of bites of raw and I am done ( a day would be one apple and a salad that I dont finish)...Well today I ate an apple for breakfast and then had an emotional day ended up eating SAD :(

Is it normal for me not be hungry? I know that I ate SAD because I was too emotional and I need to deal with that, but I am worried I might not be eating enough and my body will go in starvation mode?! does this make sense?

I would love your advice

I'm not sure about right at the beginning of eating raw (you might wanrt to ask someone who is a little newer to raw about that), but I do get periods where my body says 'I dont want to eat'.

I often find it's associated with periods of detox for me, where other things are happening and perhaps my body is saying, dont give me anything else to handle at the moment, I've got enough on my plate'.

Sometimes I override the signals, just because I want somethig to eat for the taste.

Fasting is resting the body and allowing it to deal with issues and detox, sometimes the body actually asks you to fast.

Just go with it if you can... :) A couple of days with no or little food won't hurt you. If it's ongoing however then you might want to have a deeper look into what might be happening.

Been there, done that, but not at the very beginning. I'm not an expert and I don't play one on TV, but I would say that an apple for breakfast isn't enough, hungry or not. Since you spent the rest of the day SAD I think you are simply not eating enough. You metabolism has likely slowed way down. Fruit is easy to eat in the morning and should get your metabolism going. Eat your apple, or better yet, 2 or 3. Then awhile later eat a couple of bananas. (Bananas are great and filling!) Awhile later, eat some more fruit. I'm thinkin' by the time lunch rolls around, you'll be ready for something more substantial. And do you know about green smoothies? They are simply the best of everything.

I wish you the best.

I started my raw life with a long fast: your body needs a rest, so that it can start cleaning up (detox) properly. Starvation? Not if you don't feel hungry :)

When I first started on Raw, I found that I had less appetite also. I found that I could get away with a small amount of food. I figured it was my body's way of detoxing.

To prevent myself from eating SAD, I try to keep some easy raw stuff around. Raw crackers, fresh/frozen fruit and avocados. My favorite is to make some guacamole and eat it with the crackers or some veggies.

When I first started on raw, I pigged out. Over time, I found that I have days where I pig out, and days that I could look at the most beautiful raw salad and not be interested. It's good to fast now an then, so if your body says "no food, please," go ahead and honor that. Just remember to drink plenty of water, even if you don't think you're thirsty.

I don't really feel very hungry at all either. I am worried about it too. I just get 5 servings of fruit/ veg per day just to ensure I meet the government's bare minimum nutritional requirement. It's supposed to be around 9 servings/ day min for an average woman I heard so just the five is rubbish and I don't even feel like eating that. I'm not petite so that's not the issue, maybe I need to do more sport.
These reports of people eating 10 peaches for breakfast and on and on with similar super duper sized servings throughout the day just confounds me! How do they get it down them??? Not talking about juicing, that;s probably easier.
I might just go a week doing what I feel like and see what happens.

Jojobean I know what you mean, sorry didnt mean to make it ryme:D I started the Sept challenge and day 5 I seem to not have much of a appetite but if I were eating SAD I would be shoveling it in. I think because my body wasnt getting the proper nutrients I was constantly looking for it. Now I think my body is "Oh thank you!!! I soo needed that vitamin A, B, C, etc..." and I accept that. It feels liberating not to be tied down to a schedule either (its 12:00 oclock, I better eat somthing:rolleyes:), so listen to your body and go with the ebb and flow of your natural circadian rythem (something SAD eaters know nothing about) but dont stress unless of course you get to the point where your muscles atrophy, then you might have deeper issues. Take it easy and I look forward to hearing about your progress.
