I just got my brand new vitamix in yesterday and I have made several green smoothies. I am using around a half pound of greens in each.. with a fruit or two and 3 or so stalks of celery.

I love the taste but they are full of air and really making me bloat.

Am I doing something wrong?

Aleesha,

do you do them at the highest power?
do you add the liquid then put veggies/fruit on top or do you add liquid last?

Do you blend until they are just mixed or continue to blend? I wonder if I am just getting carried away with blending too long..

I am pouring in my juice (Have been using orange juice and coconut water) and then adding chopped veggies and celery and an additional piece of fruit and blending.

It's strange.. they are like AIR smoothies!

My friend has a high powered blender...seems its way too much whipping for the stuff and it makes all kinds of foam at the top and air.

Maybe too high a speed for too long. I guess with vitamix you might even cook them if you spin it too long...eeeeeek.

I have a Vitamix and add frozen fruit, spincah, then liquid in that order. I also only mix until it's blended which is about 10 seconds on high. I get foam layer when I add too much liquid. I only add liquid till covers most of the fruit. HTH

I add my oj, then greens then the frozen fruit on top of that...start on low, crank up the dial to high, flip the switch to high, blend for maybe 15 seconds and it's done...more like a sorbet than a drink...never any air or foam...no matter what kind I make...even with almond milk, cacao, bananas, etc...

this happens with a regular blender too, you can tell when the volume increases from pre-blending to post-blending if you have submerged everything in liquid. it helps to make sure you "chew" your juice. that seems to loosen it up and push out some of the air.
