Hey, I'm a new at this and doing research before I'm able to start eating raw. I'm 29yr male and see a lot of females on this forum. Are there any guys that could give me advice on eating and staying active with the reduced protein in the diet.

Thanks,
Mike

You might want to do a search for posts by Raweater. He talks quite a bit about gaining muscle on a raw food diet and he posts recipes and has written a recipe book to this end.

Oh ... and welcome too!

Good luck and Blessings,
Heather

You know, Mike, I was just thinking the other day how there are so many women here that it might be difficult for men to join in. We women are so women-ly. ;)

Miah has mentioned one already, but if you'd like, "Storm" is a man that has been raw since the 70s and bosts - with good reason - of how good raw is for an athletic man like himself. Google "the garden diet" and you should find it. He can explain how the protein on this diet is utilized better in your body.

Welcome! Not only do you need men to talk to, the men here need you, so stick around!

I've seen pics of Storm. His body is beautiful. He's about 55-60 & they just had another baby. They live in Ojai, Ca. He's an inspiration to many men. There are several men on here. Maybe there can be 'munching men's section'. :D

Hey Mike -

welcome!

I am a guy and I have been doing total raw for a few years now and I recommend eating a variety of foods (fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, seaweeds) and make sure you are eating enough. This could mean heavier on the fruits or nuts/seeds.

Feel free to e-mail me.

Welcome!

EAT FRUIT AND LOTS, I MEAN TONS OF IT ;)

My boyfriend will eat 8 bananas in one sitting sometimes.

He keeps his weight on my eating lots of fruit all day and keeps the muscles on by working out and lifting heavy weights.

Hey Mike

My friend runs marathons. He eats sprouts 1/4 cup Millet and 1/4 cup Mung beans, sprouted for one day. Says it is all the protein he needs. Googl (http://www.google.com/search?q=Running+Raw&ie)e

Running Raw (http://www.runningraw.com/) - he doesn't add any extra protein and can run up all the stairs of the Sears Tower, one of the tallest in the world!

I am lifting weights again. I got far away from my former body building / wilderness hiking / army / sky diving / pilot days, got up over 500 pounds of flab. Now, on raw stuff, I am almost 300 and lifting again and starting to build muscle. I don't look like much (yet), but I have come from near death! I'm eating the same protein as my runner friend above.

Actually, Amino acids in raw food are much better at building muscle than protein (so you need a lot less). Your gut has to break down the protein into amino acids, then rebuild it into your muscle protein. With raw food your body just needs to build the protein once - very efficient.

Tip -
Think GREEN - Drink GREEN! Chew your Green Smoothies. You need saliva!

Don't believe the Protein Industry - their business is simply to sell animal protein... They want your money.

If you are lifting do you think you can beat a 900 pound all muscle gorilla? Cause he doesn't eat any "protein!" Just raw plants, mostly green.

Think of all the meat muscle, cows, horses, rhinos, elephants! What do these muscle builders eat? Green stuff!

Because of your male hormone you will build muscle mass when you give your body the right amino acids.

Note: to the ladies - this won't work for you. You will only trim to a point, not build muscle mass because you do not have the male hormones without eating animal protein. (Think about milk - a baby calf has to add half a ton of muscle mass in just a year! Hormones!) As far as I can determine there are no female body builders. Those big male muscles some girls get NEED animal protein or they will not grow.

However, exercise and amino acids will get rid of the arm "bat-wings" some women get. Do push/pull exercises like bench presses and curls - but prepare for the good comments! Tummy exercises will also give you a nice flat sexy tummy on raw foods!

Ready for that Green Smoothie now?
