is it a young/baby coconut? if so it's fine more than likely. just look and taste the water to make sure it isn't rancid. i think if the meat is grey it's def bad.

just smell it and do a tiny taste test.. if it seems ok then hopefully it is. but i'm pretty sure it's just young and not ripe to eat like others.

it is a young coconut. Some other coconuts I noticed had a slight bit of jelly.. is that ok.

i don't want to tell you the wrong thing because coconuts isn't my game.. but i think jelly comes with it being young too.
maybe wait until an expert comes along.. i would hate to see you get sick!

alright.. i googled and i don't know if i'm aloud to post the link because it's another raw forum.
but there are mixed reviews.. some say it's bad and has gotten sick..don't eat it... others say it's safe... some others say when it's pink or purple to smell and taste first and if is bad toss it but if taste ok then is safe for them.

maybe return it to play safe? also depends how sensitve you are... trust your judement. ;)

ps

another food for thought... so it's def not rippened like others with white meat.. we aren't suppose to eat unripped food!

I throw them. I have been told that if this purple is the chemical they use to keep the outside of the skin white has gone inside the coconut. In the past, i ate them but now that i know, i won't touch them.

Hit her in the but with a purple coconut
And she aint my teacher no more.

I always heard pink or purple is not good.

I've heard both ways. I've heard that the younger they are, the purple-r they are.

Me - I taste it and if it tastes fine I eat it, if it tastes off, I compost it. *Ü*

does not apply to coconut. young ones are fine to eat, in fact the older they are the less beneficial supposedly.

pink or purple is not a natural colour for coconut to be, i would not eat it. even when very young with no or next to no jelly having developed yet i have never had a coco that was pink or purple and i lived right next to china town so i had them a LOT!

Yes I have only young coconuts and they are rarely purple or pink...unless they sit way too long.

maybe it is still safe/tasty to eat,

but the answer is " not fresh ", so it changes color

If the coconut water is a bright pink that is a type of mold or fungus that affects coconuts. I would guess purple is the same problem. I would NOT use it. If it was a recent purchase I would take it back to the store.

yeah i'm aware of young coconuts being fine and often preferable... but i was thinking more of a baby coconut and not a youngster..youngster being inbetween a baby and an adult. i'm not an expert with coconuts. i very rarely eat 'em so really i have no clue! ;p ...just rumors i've heard. but if i found a pink or purple one i'd throw it away.

and what Raw Angel Mom said being chemicals.. it makes the most sence to me. but still i am no coconut expert.
