WOW! It's really time to start the challenge - woo hoo!!

Today I have eaten 1/2 cantaloupe and am working on my green smoothie of 1 banana, 2 kiwi, and lotsa spinich. I have enough food for the day so I'll be eating every couple hours - all fruit and greens.

Still waiting for Alissa's book, should be here Friday. Wondering what to do for dinners - I have a lot of zucchni and summer squash so I know I can do "pasta" at the very least.

I am excited and ready!! :D

Join in, everyone! This will be my fourth in a row, though the first one was just part of a month. Started raw June 12th and have stayed raw ever since. When I first started, my goal was to stay raw up to my birthday, which is the 11th of this month. I see no reason to stop now, though, and plan to start a juice fast on the 14th of this month. I think my husband may do it with me. Have a great month everyone!

Hi Katchmoleen, wow that would be great if your husband joins you...mine seems to be eating more fruit which is a good start!

So far 4 delicious bananas and a small apple...
Hope people starting out are eating enough. Not eating enough is usually my downfall. Raw is much lower in calories so we have to eat a ton of it.

Just re-read rules and realised I didn't abide by them fully last time as mentioned my slip ups, so sorry about that (prefer not to include them, just thought it was cheating not to)

Really want to stick with this for life and this forum's a great help with accountability.

This is my first ever 30 day raw challenge. I made a batch of fruit juice and vegetable juice last night and had a glass of fruit juice this am, then after dropping my son off at school swung by the store as a cantalope sounded extra good and will have some in a few minutes, also grabbed some spinach grapes and nuts. As I mentioned elsewhere a week ago Sunday I had a scare my heart beat really fast for awhile then I had dicomfort in my chest a few days after the Dr found nothing wrong but there is still an ache. It is a wake up call for me. So I am 43 weight was 196 before bed last night and 192.5 this a.m. I am 5'3. I wish everyone a strong will power when needed this month and look forward to learning and growing with you all in my journey of better health.

I would say "yes" it's because of the caffeine. I know when I stopped drinking caffeine I got horrible headaches!! More water always helped me...I have also heard the flax oil helps migraines so maybe give that a try. Hope it gets better soon! :)

Munching on my salad....as i have been for a half hour. Wish I really got lunch!! Mixed greens, cucumber, tomato and curry dressing (oil, lemon juice, dates, curry) YUMMY!!

Still have some smoothie left as well as grapes and a nectaurene (I have NO idea how to spell that :o)

HOORAY!!!! Im jumping on board. I normally would have had my tea (with lotsa cream and splenda - yuck) which is probably why my MANY attempts of going RAW failed BUT today I woke up and IMMEDIATELY reached for my water and thus far have had 1 apple and a banana. Also a surge of energy which is unusual for me. My biggest concern is the detoxing but I will just cry it out because I know it will make me a stronger person. I sooooo look forward to hearing about how you all are doing. Thanks for the encouragement:D

I'm in! I am going to go 60 days for this challenge! I've already had five great days of 100%, but yesterday was a bit of a "non-raw" day. So now I'm back! And for 60 days. So far today I've just had my vitamineral greens and done a litle oil pulling and dry brushing....here's to yet another day one!!!

When I went raw I knew I did not want to deal with caffeine withdrawal headaches on top of everything else (I had horrible detox the first week) so I tapered. I quit the strong tea with cream cold turkey, but I would have green tea, progressively made weaker and weaker until after a week I was done. Suffered slightly less that way.

hello all!
this is the first day of my first attempt at the raw foods diet. I've felt very unhealthy for quite some time, pretty much just toxic (like cancer and diabetes are brewing up something special.) SO, I'm ready to shed my extra weight and stop feeling so sluggish and unflexible.
so goodbye bread, you have been the staple food of my diet for too long now, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss you already.

progress since waking:
-one 1.5 ounce shot of acai/noni/goji berry concentrate
-a bowl of watermelon pieces
-cup of yerba mate tea that I steeped in H2O that was about 115degrees F. Is this ok? PLease don't take away my coffee.
-at least 12 ounces of water.

Also, could all you Pros give me some advice about what kind of things I need to buy; for instance what's a dehydrator and how expensive is it? I need to know how I can replicate BREAD and CARBS.

Yes I have been a BIG tea and soda drinker all sugar laden, a couple weeks ago I lowered/tapered the soda, then I switched from my black tea to green for about a week then dropped both gr. tea and soda so that coming into the challenge I would not have the headaches ect..) I must say the switching to green tea and lowering all caffeine during a week or so was MUCH easier than the other times I quit, this made for a big difference in the sugar intake for me and I actually dropped a couple pounds due to this. (Back to raw) I ate half of the cantalope I bought this morning and will have a glass of my vegetable juice in a minute and perhaps a few nuts. I wanted to mention in case someone reads this later but I want to FEEL hungry (growling tummy need food) so early on I will not be eating alot I want to connect with what my body needs not what my mind wants, I guess I want to be in control and then when hungry fuel it with this good natural wholesome raw food.

I used to drink just one cup of coffee.... I hope its not a week till the headache is gone !!! It started just when the usual time passed without drinking coffee!!! But im stronger than that evil cup lol I am eating many times, every time im hungry, and drinking a lot of water. My colleagues at work laugh but I dont care :D

I bought a reconditioned Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator directly from the Excalibur website. It was a great deal. You can make some great crackers and flatbreads in there and will do just fine without your "daily bread."

September is going to be a GREAT month! I have a few social situations I know I will have to navigate but it will be fine. I am also going to try to incorporate one fasting day per week (Wed.). And I have two goals this month 1. is to find some LOWER COST dessert ideas (it just seems that every time I make a dessert I spend 10+ dollars) (I'm going to post a thread in the recipes section) and 2. Find a flatbread/cracker recipe that I REALLY like, so far I have only found ones that I don't mind eating with something ON them. I'm off to spend some time in the kitchen to make some raw cookie balls to get me through those rough times ;).

Heather

Hi everyone! Today is my first Day raw. I've been tampering with being raw for over 2 yrs now and today, is the day that I've decided enough is enough. I think signing in here each day is exactly what I need to stay accountable.

So far today this is what I've eaten:

banana
apple
carrots
raisins

for tonight: I plan on making a coleslaw salad and green smoothie for snack...or whatever. I'm just trying to continue getting things in as I know it'll be a difficult day ALL day. Had some headaches earlier, hunger pangs, cravings....but I stayed strong ;)

Good luck to you all! :)

Yesterday was a good raw day, but today not feeling so hot. We've been passing around a bug so it's my turn. Just water and maybe a 1/2 c. of grapes today. That's all I feel like so far.

Have good one!

Water fasting today. So far so good, I feel hungry but not unbearable so, and my energy levels are good.
The last time I tried to fast, I was still SAD and by this time of the day I had a horrible migraine. No problems with that so far, but since being raw I didn't expect any.
My plan is to water fast today and tomorrow, and then green smoothies only on Friday and Saturday and maybe even Sunday if still feeling good.

I'm in! Hopefully I can stick to it this time. So far today:
green smoothie, cucumber-arame salad, sesame-brocoli salad, geen beans, light steamed. For a snack later, I have some raw freezer fudge.

I'm always surprised in this section how little people eat. A few fruits here, a few greens there. I have to eat alot to not feel hunger and be tempted by SAD food. Good luck everyone!

Well I am doing it. I actually started yesterday. I have eaten raw before, just not for any length of time, so I am excited to commit myself for at least 30 days, hopefully longer. I am a vegan, but an unhealthy one. I have read Alissa's book and I am ready to change. I can't wait to reap the benefits!!
I made applesauce for breakfast, so good.
For lunch I had raw corn on the cob, it was really juicy and sweet.
For supper I had zucchini spaghetti with diced tomatoes and sea salt, very satisfying.
snacks--banana, apple
I am making kale chips, jicama french fries, and dehydrated onions. I can't wait till they are done.

I'm in and am so excited. I'm starting the 30 day plan and made all day 1 food. I ate the salmon pate and the date torte plus a salad and lots of fruit. I had no caffeine which is huge for me since I was drinking a ton a day. I also did 45 minutes on the treadmill, wohoo today was a good day.

Hi everyone. I just started a new job yesterday and I'm still adapting to it. I'm so tired, so I'll have to make this quick. But basically I'm going to try for another month, or at least another 2 weeks (which is all I can commit to at a time LOL). Today I had:

B-Orange and grapes (I felt really nauseous when I awoke and couldn't stomach a smoothie)
L-Salad and some spicy nuts
S-Vegetable Juice
D-Big salad and some spicy nuts
D-a few strawberries

I'm not craving dessert like I used to as much. Or maybe I'm just too lazy to make anything. This is coming from someone who used to eat 3 desserts a day!

I am so excited to "officially" be involved in a 30-day challenge. I came in late last month, August 10th, and have been 100% raw since that day.

Here's my awesome Raw Food day - photos included for the interesting stuff. I won't bore you with photos of bananas :p!

Breakfast: 2 Bananas

Snack: Lara Bar (Cashew Cookie) on the go

Lunch: Alissa’s Pad Thai sauce over Arame Noodles and Marinated Asparagus -- see Photo 1

At the Gym: 750 ml Young Coconut Water during 55 minute Spin Cycling Class and 750 ML “Raw Ginger Ale” during 1 hour Weight Training (Brendan Brazier’s recipe – visit: http://www.brendanbrazier.com/)

See my Sept 1 photo at the gym. I am not overweight, but I would like to trim my abs (photo 2)

Post-workout: Brendan Brazier's Raw recovery Pudding -- not pretty, but it tastes delicious and is oh so good for muscle recovery (photo 3)

Dinner: (see photo 4) Belgian Endive stuffed with Fresh Cheezes from Pure Market Express http://puremarketexpress.com/thefood/thefood.html

Dessert: Chia Pudding – Big Yum! (see photo 5)

Dessert Again: Jennifer Cornbleet's One-Bowl Brownies with Chocolate Ice Dream by our very own Veganforlife

Thanks for a perfect First Day!! See y'all tomorrow!

Hi Melvina- uh my suggestion would be to start the day raw, have at least a litre of green smoothie every day because that gets the taste buds and body craving raw and always remember why you are doing this.

Hi gritsnla- not nice being under the weather:( Not sure how long you have been raw but i originally transitioned to raw when I was ill with a chest infection and being ill made it really easy because the effects of the illness covered up or blended in with the detox symptoms:) always a bright side.

today I had nut, seed and date cereal with walnut and cocao honey milk with shredded coconut on top
big sald for lunch
green smoothie
curry avocado colslaw for dinner
really hungry today though- kept looking in the kitchen for stuff and just felt really restless. I know I need to up my water intake-I just havn't felt like much so I will endevour to drink the right amount tomorrow.

Glad to be apart of this challenge!

Hello~:)
I've been back to raw for just over a week and feeling good, sleeping better, more energy and more evenly keeled emotionally...raw is great!! Have had a couple of crazy busy days and not made eating a priority so haven't had enough. Will try today to make sure I get a lot of nourishing foods in, including greens. I run a family child care program and have six little ones every day beginning at 6 am, ages 3 months, two 20 month olds, and three two year olds...and I do a thematic based preschool program with them daily...so....the days are very full and hectic. The last one goes home by 5:45.

Plan for the day-

Green smoothie/sorbet w/ greens, orange juice, frozen banana, papaya, cranberries & blueberries.

I just made some corn salad to have for lunch...so good and so versatile
Corn, cucumber, red onion, avocado, tomato, red pepper, cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, sea salt, cumin and chili powder
I also cut up tomato and mango to make a dressing for my supper salad, blended with water and balsamic vinegar....delicious!!

snacks-
apples
macaroon
Hope everyone has a great day...hope you are feeling better soon Grits~

I drank water until 10 then a large glass of my vegetable juice also had some plums. Later ate some cherry tomatoes from the garden along with a larger one as well as a banana, had some nuts and watermelon, green peppers and a couple mushrooms. Will probably have some fruit and juice later this evening. Feeling good today! Want to buy a dehydrator though!

Morning all, sipping my green smoothie - banana, orange, kiwi, kale. Have a canteloupe to eat this morning too - I know those should be first but I have never been too bothered, we'll see if I am hungry.

Today's plan - fruit and greens (again). Packed some nuts too for variety. I am thinking that instead of buying lots of the fruit on sale I should buy a couple of lots of DIFFERENT fruits and veggies so I don't get bored.

YEA Day Two!

Good Morning everyone!
I am here, ready for day two. Yesterday was a little rough, as I had a terrible headache last night, but it is almost gone this morning. Temptation was bad yesterday too, it seems all I thought about was eating junk.

Anyhow, for today I will be finishing off a green smoothie, then have some watermelon for lunch. Not sure after that.
I need to get some exercise in today since I didnt yesterday.

Hope you all have a great raw day!!

I've started these 100% months before, only to cave. I hope you all and being here will help. I really want this month to be the one that changes my life forever! Best I ever felt was after two weeks of 100% - felt 20 years younger! I hope to have the willpower to make 100% my final lifestyle decision, now that I'm a year away from 50. :)

Started with two grapefruits and two bananas. Great energy now!

Hi Everybody! I'm in for the 30 days!
I have been off and on raw (mostly off) for almost 7 years now (I can't believe that!). I finally realized the other day that despite all my efforts to make other ways of eating 'work' for me, absolutely nothing 'works' like raw foods- in terms of weight loss, health and LOOKING & FEELING GOOD! So, I'm BACK! I started yesterday on Day 1 but didn't have a chance to post. I intend to focus on health this time around instead of weight loss, although I am expecting that, too. That way, when I don't lose gobs of weight every single day I won't get disappointed because I know that my HEALTH is improving every single minute! So glad to be back, and excited about all the delicious raw foods to enjoy.

I'm here, late as usual but here.
I plan to base my raw plan this month primarily on fruit. If I get tired of it, I will add in more vegtables.

This morning started off with:
Pineapple
banana, frozen
gala apple
blueberries.
blended into a delicious smoothie.

I will add either coconut or olive oil later.

I also plan to eat less at a time but more often.

Hi everyone, this is the second day of my water fast, and I am amazed that I feel pretty good. Normal energy levels, not severe hunger. I had a slight headache when I got up this morning but it is gone now.
I went to the chiropractor this morning and got a good workout there (just say YES to CRACK....aaaahhhhhh) and then took a mile walk with my good doggie (she is also raw and has really improved her health since going raw) and am getting ready to help my daughter lay some tile in her room. I am making her do the heavy work of moving the furniture and cleaning the floor, then we will get started on laying the tile.
If I still feel like this tomorrow I will extend my fast. I will break it with a green smoothie at supper because I work Friday morning and don't want to worry about headaches or weakness at work. But I do plan to do green smoothies for at least a couple of days after my water fast is over.

Be strong everyone. I notice every month we start out with a ton of people and most don't survive the first week, when cravings and detox are strongest. Please remember, that WON'T last! You will feel so much better so soon, if you just stick it out and be kind to yourself. Drink lots of water and eat eat eat good tasting raw food. Treat yourself. This is not the time to go all fruitarian or whatever if you have been 100% SAD. Eat a wide variety of good raw foods and just aim for being raw. You can refine things later. Don't be one of the drop-outs, be one of the survivors. You can do it!

afternoon all, day 1 was very successfull: apple, banana, salad w avocado, tomato, plum, another apple and banana for dessert. Today 2 apples and a large salad with avo/tom/cuc/zucchini/lettuce. I am feeling a bit tired and a slight headache but overall I can feel the fog lifting. Friday is payday so I will be able to expand my menu, Im so looking forward to making some veggie patties. But keeping it simple today, going to get plenty of rest as I know my body is going through a major adjustment but I welcome the transition with loving arms (hug).

Some headaches and feelings of "low" today...meh, it was expected. lol I did not cave though. Stood strong all day, serving customers at work with migraine-like headaches. Man, I'm a trooper! lol

Came home after a long day of work and treated myself to a yummy almond milk/carob/agave/banana-type smoothie. yum!

This is what i've had so far and what I expect to eat tonight:

I wasn't a big fan of the alfredo either, but her marinara one was good. The date nut torte rocks!! yum!

Today was good. Challenging again. I'm kinda forced to be around stimulating foods all the time, but I had a great day!

Food today was:

Vitamineral Greens
Creme Melon (good, but not as good as a honeydew)
Apple
Banana
Grapes
about 15 cashews
Bell Pepper
Raw Spaghetti

Good day!

Not too bad of a day...coffee is hard to give up though...lol. Had a green smoothie for breakfast, then went for my 2 mile walk. Then all day I more or less nibbled on raw stuff all day. Carrots and cucumbers and tomatoes, and papaya and melon. Had a big salad for dinner, and some almonds for a snack.

what is the general concensus as to how long they usually last. I know I'm detoxing but my SAD self keeps wanting to medicate with food (carbs) and I do not have any RAW version on hand so I'm just hanging in there, drinking a ton (64 oz so far) of water. Just curious how long yours went on. Thanks for sharing.

I am/was really toxic, so I had migraines every single day for the first week. Hate to say that, as I don't want to discourage anyone, but it is true. On the 8th day I finally had a headache free day. I still get them on occasion but they are much milder than that first week.

Day 2- 9/2/09
Ok, today was blown to hell. I ate pretty much anything I wanted. Not sure why I did this. I even weighed in 2lbs less this morning, and yet that wasn’t enough motivation for me! I do not want to stay the way I am. Which is, 260+ lbs, hurting feet almost every time I walk on them, and just an overall feeling of unhealthiness/toxicity all the time. Why would I keep myself at this weight by eating SAD food, when I know that all I have to do is change my diet to all raw for awhile? After I get to my goal weight, I plan to keep eating mostly raw, but add in a few cooked things here and there and see how it goes. BUT, I need to be 100% raw, or pretty darn close to it to get this weight off, and to get healthy. I have no motivation to exercise feeling the way I do. Ok, so for what all I ate today? I will list everything I remember:

1 cup cherries (started out w/ good intentions)
candy bar
small bag cheetos
2 12oz cokes
4 eggs w/ mayonnaise (egg salad)
4 english muffins
1 serving tortilla chips
˝ soft taco

Ugh, I dont even know if this is everything, but its everything I can remember. Im so disgusted that I let stress be my excuse.
BUT, tomorrow is a new day and I will pray for Gods help.

Hello to everyone!

This will be my first RAW challenge. I've been about 70% or so for the past two years, so here I go to 100%!

This is Day One off my juice fast so everything I had was blended.

Morning:
Watermelon, mostly rind
Banana

Lunch:
Banana
Blueberries
Peach

Dinner:
Blueberries
Raspberries
Watermelon, flesh
Banana

Lots of banana! haha

Had quite a few little smoothies throughout the day. I feel great so far, just readjusting to that "full" feeling after pure liquid for two weeks.

Tomorrow will be a day of purely green smoothies (with no fruit!), as will the following days up until Monday. I'll be adding in some olive oil as well. Monday is our long bike trail day! We're aiming to see three different waterfalls in one afternoon on the trail, so I'll add in some fruit to the morning and snack smoothies for an extra boost.

HW: 210
CW:145
GW: 130

Here's to tomorrow!

Hi Nicole, I'm so sorry about your day :( I know how it feels...trust me. I used to weigh 245 lbs back in Jan/09 and I'm now down to 199 as of this morning. Thanks to doing raw foods (partially), I was able to get the weight off. Don't give up girl. Just keep on going. There will always be slip ups, but as long as you dust yourself off and keep on going, you'll get there. We don't have to be perfect at this....but just make progress over time ;)

Today is a brand new day. Make it the best that you can girl ;)

I worked last night so my day 2 and day 3 sort of meshed.
I stayed with my fruit plan.
Pineapple
Banana
Gala apple
Blueberries
melon...watermelon, cantalope, and honey dew
just a few pieces from each.
Red grapes.
Same plan today.

I had a donut crisis, but got through it ok.

Hello Day 3!! :D and fellow challengers!

The sun is shinin' today and I'm feeling pretty amazing I must say. I was so worried about detox and not even making it past day 3, but I am so focussed that these headaches won't keep me down ;)

I think I had emotional detox though yesterday. I like to reward myself with a bubblebath and candles/music at the end of each day, and yesterday, I completely broke down into tears and couldn't stop crying! I guess it happens at times...right? I'll just assume it's part of the process. lol

So 2 days down being 100% raw. Here's to Day 3!

For breakfast I'm having a green smoothie with banana, raspberries and spinach.

Not sure what I'll have for the rest day...most likely fruit, carrots...whatever I pack for work lol.

Hope you are all doing great :) One day at a time.

Excited about today for the patties I have dehydrating for dinner. Same same throughout the day - but it's still good:

~working on green smoothie - banana, kiwi, spinich
~salad for lunch w/ cuc and tomato

It's a Beautiful day in the neighborhood! I had fruit juice first thing this morning, went to town and decided a peach was just what I wanted went to the store got 2 and a bottle of water, ate 1 peach and sipped the water, then after getting back home had a hefty serving of my vegetable juice with an added banana and a large handful of spinach blended in! Ate some nuts. Half a cantalope and some fruit juice (it's a noshing type of day for me so far) This evening had more vegetable juice (Large) and a bit of orange juice I am down 1 pound (2 total)190.5 this a.m. I have not been real hungry today...

Hey everybody!
I'm still going strong on Day 3 and ready for another RAW day! Yesterday went great, green smoothie for breakfast and salads for lunch and dinner, with a banana and apple as snacks. Today I think I'll branch out and make the walnut taco meat lettuce wraps for lunch, I'm looking for some variety! Also, last night I had a raging headache which I wasn't expecting for some reason. This time around I am tapering off on the caffeine instead of going cold turkey (I've done that too many times and it HURTS!) I always associated the headaches with the caffeine withdrawal, so... I guess it's detox! My digestion already seems much stronger and I feel optimistic that I can see the whole 30 days through (what's a mere 30 days?) and beyond even! I am ready!
Best wishes to everyone for RAW SUCCESS and thanks Glimr for your welcome yesterday... I didn't see it til this morning!

I feel good. I am trying to walk 10,000 steps a day and I found myself running a little, and I hate running. I am also trying to drink 10 glasses of water a day. I have succeed so far. I have been eating a lot of fruit throughout the day. And I have a big salad at lunch with something different for supper. I am trying to be ahead of myself and soak things and dehydrate. I have been to the store a lot. I can't keep enough food in the house my 9yr old son is doing it with me. He was interested when I said we might not get sick this winter especially with the swine flu. I'm glad he is trying but I'm not pressuring him. I have currently lost 4 lbs, cool!!

Wow today is already day 3, Iv'e had a peach, handful of nuts, a plum and some grapes. I did have a 1/2 peace of toast with pb cause I was going running and needed something solid. I have come farther then I ever have gone before, usually succumbing to cravings late into day 1 so this is a huge step. I've noticed my appetite decressing but when I am hungry I usually will grab some fruit. Still a little bit of a headache but the air quality here in L.A. is really bad due to fires so that could be a contributer. But more then anything I am proud of my baby steps. I am proud of all of your efforts and I will see you tomorrow:D

I've had two big green smoothies today and have been grazing on my sprouts all day. Lots of running up and down stairs doing laundry and general cleaning for my exercise.

In an hour or so we'll be going for a hike as well. One more big green smoothie later for "dinner".

Everything feels great and my fast transition is happening wonderfully and easily!

Day three of my water fast. It has gone well in spite of a very busy day.
Got up at 7 am and worked some more on my daughter's floor. It is done except for the doorway area and I need 8 more classic white tiles, only to find HOme Depot no longer stocks them..... They did stock them when I bought them so I only bought one box thinking I can always run down and buy a few more if needed. So the glue is already on the floor so we have to figure out what to do now!! ACK
Then I went to the chiropractor and ran errands with my other daughter from 11:15 till 3:30 pm.
When I first got up this morning I felt a little weak and I checked my blood sugar. 54, which is low. So I just took it easy working on the floor and eventually I felt fine.
I am looking forward to having a green smoothie this evening. Probably spinach, banana, apple. YUM. It will be like ambrosia.

Worked again last night. It was hopping until midnight, then slowed until 3.
I am still eating fruit.
Breakfast was my favorite...
a smoothie with:
Pineapple
Banana
Gala Apple {I had a couple of those by themselves last night}
The last of my blueberries:(
I picked up a whole watermelon on the way home this morning. I plan to eat watermelon all night.
I'll add in apples and nectarines.
Someone gave me some Romaine lettuce. I added dried cranberries to it. Then I cut up an orange, squeezed some of the juice for a dressing and chopped up the rest of the orange on top of it.
Having transient detox type headaches. Bad yesterday, much less last night.

As you can tell by my join date in 2005, this is not my first time around. I lasted for four months in 2005, then just couldn't stick with it. I can say that for those four months, I felt incredible and had an amazing amount of energy! So I don't know why it has taken me so long top get back. Anyway, Day 1 today and I feel terrible! I am nauseous and exhausted and head achy. I have been a vegetarian the whole time, but not very healthy. Lots of Diet Coke (like 6 a day), aspartame-filled frozen yogurt and other chemical-filled foods. I am going to have major caffeine withdrawals, as along with the Diet Coke I am also addicted to Excedrin. So I am in for it! lol Probably should have weaned, but for some reason I do best doing things cold turkey.

I am lucky enough to live a block away from Whole Foods, so have access to a large variety of raw foods, but am just going to stick to the basics in the beginning.

Apple, banana, orange and spinach in a blender

Raw granola

I look forward to meeting you all and catching up on the posts!

I worked today but started off the day by being an hour late to work due to electrical malfunctions to different appliances in my house.....including my alarm! I work early mornings as a nurse and hit the ground running at 0530. So being an hour late put me behind for the rest of the day. Good think I made my green smoothies last night, as I just grabbed them and went. I am tired tonight and have a mild headache, so I think I must be detoxing from my fast.
B: Green smoothie of apple, banana, spinach, and cinnamon.
L: Green smoothie of avocado, tomatoes, green pepper, and garlic. boy was that yummo, guacamole in a glass.
S: Planning a watermelon, banana, kale smoothie. Never had watermelon in a smoothie before, looking forward to it.

I have lost 8 pounds since I started the water fast! Four of those were ones I gained over the weekend while visiting my mom and eating all kinds of raw goodies, but the rest are new. I am in a new "decade!" Haven't seen this weight decade in many years. HAPPY DAY!:D

I planned on all veggies..but it's turned into all fruit today!

I went to market this morning, and was disappointed. My raw honey guy was not there...and I was so looking forward to it! Oh well, I got lots of a apples, tomatoes, and carnation grapes.

Three smoothies so far, apples, bananas, and grapes. Lots of figs for snacks as well.

Exercise included 20 minutes walking to and from the market, 45 minutes on my wii fit, then the five and a half hours or heavy lifting at work. Yay!

I pushed it a little too hard at though, pulled my back muscles a little too far, so tomorrow will be an easy day of just gentle walking and yoga.

My goal for the weekend is to have the majority of my smoothies be veggies/greens.

I wanted to sleep in this morning but am awake anyway!! Arghhhhhhhhh!!
DH and I go out to breakfast on Saturday mornings...to a very SAD restaurant.
I am going to bring a bowl of honeydew and a peach....will order a banana.
That works and I am happy with my luscious fruit. I haven't had any time in the kitchen this week so my food has been simple. I have a three day weekend so want to get busy making some great food. Anna Tipp's Cranberry Almond Slaw for one. Ani Phy's Donut Holes, Aliss'a Avocado Chutney...yup.

More donuts showed up at work last night. Three nights in a row now. I have manged to stay away from them.
The watermelon I picked up yesterday was not quite ripe.
I noticed that Nutrition data says watermelon is inflammatory. That was a surprise. However, cantaloupe is anti inflammatory.
The reason I looked it up is because after I ate a large amount of watermelon I started having muscle aches. Still not sure if it was the watermelon or because it was 3am on my 4th 12 hour shift.

Also:
Nectarine
Gala apple, 2 of them.

I have been mostly sticking with the simple raw foods- whole fruits, green smoothies, and salads but have also made the raw walnut taco meat wraps and yesterday made a delicious soup... so far so good, no real cravings to speak of yet, just focusing on health and health giving foods. HUGE fruit day today. It's all I want right now.

Slept in today, then hubby and I went to drop off some things at charity shops..and peruse them haha Stopped at a grocery while we were out so I could get some fresh fruit.

breakfast:

2 cups grape tomatoes
3 bananas

Lunch (smoothie):

4 apples
2 banana
1/2 cup grapes

Dinner:

2 romaine heads
1 english cucumber
2 field tomatoes
olive oil/vinegar

sooo good! I'd been craving a huge salad and that olive oil taste all day!

Snacks:

3 smoothies that included;

4 apples
2 bananas
1 tomato
1 cup grapes

lots of lots today! I feel rather sloshy but otherwise good. Physical activity wise not so great. The heat this morning/afternoon drained us and we'd both had a rather physically demanding work week. My back does not hurt as much today, and I am just hoping beyond hope that all is well for tomorrow. I've got to go into work in the early afternoon 'till closing, so I have to get all my duties done..hoo-rah!

I'm down one more pound which I am ECSTATIC about! After every fast I've done I've always gained weight RIGHT away. I was mentally prepared for a few pound gain right away from food in my digestive tract, but I've gone DOWN.

While out shopping today I was walking towards a mirror and I had to do a double take. I have normal sized hips! Everyone has always said I have "wide, child-bearing hips", which is a polite way of saying they're large..but no more! My comfy jeans that I have been living in are loose now as well! Although so are my brand new work pants..darn..

Grocery shopping tomorrow which is GREAT! I've had so many apples....and nothing left but carrots pak choi to mix them with for my "fast breaking" smoothies. haha

Here's to tomorrow!

Good morning!

So far today I have had three of Alissa's Berry Bars, which I made in the dehydrator yesterday. As Renee said before, they are ugly bars, but they taste wonderful! I wish there was a way to make them pretty, but their taste makes up for the way the bars look when done.

I had another green smoothie day.
B: Smoothie of watermelon, banana, and spinach. I had made this the night before and the next morning it was awful, a sickly sweet brown mess. So I drank very little of it.
L: About a cup of my guacamole smoothie from yesterday. I was so hungry, wish I had more of it but was at work so stuck with what I had. Made of avocado, tomatoes, onion, garlic, and green pepper.
S: Banana, apple, and spinach smoothie.

I seem to be detoxing more while doing green smoothies than I did on just water, which I find interesting. I have a mild headache and intenstinal symptoms. Nothing too bad, and I know it means I am flushing out and losing weight. So BRING IT ON.

Hi all, I have been cleaning and organizing my kitchen, too. Yesterday I cleaned out my dehydrator which has sat lonely and unused for well over a year, including some time in storage. It's now ready to go... hmmm... what should I make first!? Funny thing- I found a little piece of flax cracker in the corner and it still looked fresh and edible -I didn't try it though! I ended up having a banana and an apple for dinner last might because I just wasn't that hungry. Unbelievable! especially since I come from a place of having such junk food cravings and tendencies to overeat, and then to be satisfied with a couple of pieces of fruit, something is obviously going on here! I LOVE RAW! Ready to rawk on day 6!

I put sweet potatoes in the spiral slicer, then mixed them with olive oil, basil. and nutritional yeast. Oh, so good. They spent about 6 hours longer in the dehydrator than they should have. Oh, so good.

The other thing I loved was Alissa's blueberry bread. Oh, that was really good.

Gosh, I guess I fell off track pretty bad. I found out that Im not supposed to post the foods that fall off the wagon with, so sorry if I tempted any of you by listing my "cheat" foods.
Anyhow, I just happened to walk past a blood pressure machine at wal-mart today and decided to check mine. It said I was in Stage 1-Prehypertension!! Ok, raw is the only way to go for me at this time in my life. I just cannot deny it. Its either
RAW = disease free, healthy, weight loss, feeling of wellness, Alive!!
SAD = health problems, weight issues, feeling of sickness, death!!

My time is now to take care of myself, so tonight will be watermelon. Watermelon always makes me feel clean and it is soo yummy!!

Made a bunch of Raw Mexican dishes yesterday -- will have for dinner again tonight.

See photo of Alissa's Spanish Rice with a romaine "taco" filled with refried "beans", walnut taco meat, Alissa's guacamole -- had "The Bomb" cheese sauce on the side.

Breakfast was assorted fresh fruit.

For lunch, one of my congregants brought me a Raw Mexican Salad to church - an unexpected delight!

Also made Zucchini Bread yesterday - been munching on that throughout the day as well -- it is addictive (see photo 2)

See everybody tomorrow!

Revdrcyn (Reverend Darcy?) I love your pictures. My birthday is friday and I knew I wanted to have Alissa's burrito wraps with mushroom filling, and now I think I will have some spanish rice too. I have both buckwheat and quinoa. Which is better? I also have three huge zucchini to use up. Is the zucchini bread recipe in Allissa's book?

Great day today. Still doing my smoothie fast and I also worked and got a good nights sleep last night.
B: Banana, apple, spinach.
L: avocado, tomato, red pepper, onion, garlic. It was.....DIVINE. My co-workers call my green smoothies my baby poop drinks.:D But they can't argue with my results. My blood sugars have dropped 34 points on average since going raw and I have lost 26 pounds (in three months). I LOVE IT!
S: I am now sipping on a cantaloupe strawberry smoothie. The cantaloupe was just picked yesterday (not in MY garden but just north of here). MMMMMM

Still doing some mild detox, of the lower intestinal variety.

Hi katchmoleen,

I use quinoa because I always have it in bulk and it so EASY to sprout!

Here's a link for the zucchini bread - I found it in an old thread yesterday:

http://www.foodreference.com/html/zucchini-brd-drd-58.html

NOTE: I made 4 loaves instead of 3, and added about 2 TBS Agave Syrup 'cause I like it a little sweet

Hi,

I am finding it relatively easy to stay raw. Its just that I am putting on a lot of weight. I have been eating a lot of nuts and probably too much fruit. So will have to wind back the calories. Unexpected...

Today:

B - raw energy balls (dates, almond meal, vanilla, cocao, cashews)
- many many dried bananas, with mulberries and tinned pineapple

L - Green salad, with bee pollen and tinned pineapple

D - (planned) celery, carrot juice.

Have fun,

Myca, the sweet potatoes with basil sounds delish! I was at Whole Foods today and they had chopped tomatoes with basil, as a sample. It was SO good and the taste of the basil just kind of stayed with me for awhile even though I had a very small amount... I've now been thinking of basil all day and then I read your sweet potato idea- YUM! I will try SOON!

And Katchmoleen, don't you love the cantaloupe in your smoothie? I had never had it like that until recently and I LOVED it- there is just something indescribably wonderful about the taste.

Everybody's food sounds so yummy! I made a wonderful salad for dinner with mixed greens, cherry tomato quarters, celery, and chopped brazil nuts with a marionberry vinaigrette that I made. It was SO GOOD!

Green Smoothie w/ oj, spinach, spirulina, frozen bananas, blueberries & cranberries.

Strawberries

Fresh Plums

Almond milk w/ cacao, bee pollen, lucuma, maca & frozen banana

Lg. salad

Hi GlimR! My favorite dressings are simple, maybe too plain for some tastes. I love pineapple, tomato, and red pepper blended together, with sea salt to taste. Cilandro is also good in this dressing. I just made some for my corn salad for tomorrows lunch, since tomorrow is back to work.

I also like tomato, garlic and mango dressing (soup, sauce).

I realized lately, I really don't want to eat many foods that come in a bottle, or package, even if they are labeled Raw, unless it is fresh produce or nuts and seeds.

I want everything fresh and simple! Like my corn salad, I was marinating some tomatoes, and also dehydrating some in my dehydrator (we have a garden filled with tomatoes)! The corn salad next to the marinating tomatoes looked so pretty and yummy! Raw food is gorgeous!

So far today I have had my favorite smoothie, almond milk, cocao powder, frozen strawberries, and banana. I love this smoothie sooo much! Plus I had a handful of red grapes.

This afternoon we are invited over for dinner with our best friends, for Labor Day. They are SAD eaters, so I'll have to figure out how I will handle this. Have a great Labor Day, my Rawk Friends! :D

I haven't posted in a couple of days and was following the 4 wk. plan in Alissa's book but I've decided to just eat simple foods. I did the first week meals and was not that crazy about them. still going strong, last night I had this empty feeling in my stomach like I hadnt eatin enough although I had been all day so I had a small piece of toast with pb and guess what? I didnt feel full even after that:( but I guess my stomach must be going through some changes so I have to accept it.

So anywho today I woke up naturally when the sun came up, good feeling. Wasnt hungry so I drank about 24 oz ice cold water, took dog for walk and then I had a nect. and almonds. Then I started becoming extremely bored with fruit and the thought of another salad just did not appeal to me so I found a recipe for taco meat using coconut pulp (Yeah I found a use:D) and it was oh so yummy and satisfying, I put it on yellow bell pepper slices. Now I'm stuffed and feel like a nap only after eating 1/2 the bell pepper. I will probably have the rest for dinner with some big, juicy, purple grapes for dessert. Have a good day ya'll

I am feeling really great today, getting some cleaning and decluttering done. Day four of my green smoothie fast after three days of water fasting. I will do one more day of green smoothies tomorrow and then gently break the fast on Wednesday so I can party down on my birthday weekend.
Breakfast: Green smoothie of spinach, bananas, and cinnamon. Yum
Lunch: Smoothie of tomatoes, celery, avocado, zuccini, garlic, and carrot. Very good. My husband even liked it.
Supper: Another smoothie of some type.

It has been 45 days since I started raw food, changing beer, beef, roast and other cooked goodies has been easier than I though. Although not “thaaat” easy.
I can say that I do have more energy, however I also find myself moodier all the time. I am also tired on trying to explain to people why this is a better diet. I guess time will tell and I can be an example (or so I hope) since I started, I lost 6.5kgs and 7% of fat.
It is important to mention that I do work out a lot (at least three times a week- weightlifting or HIIT) and I am preparing for a half-marathon (again, the energy from raw food is incredible). I had to supplement with raw vegetarian protein powder (from sun warrior). I have to say I was loosing a lot of muscle in the first 30 days I noticed this because I have a scale which give your % f at % muscle% water. (Although this is not completely accurate, it is however, a good benchmark to work on, I highly recommend it!).

It also made me appreciate more ways of life that I do not understand (by this I mean, raw foodists compared to SAD, how much I learned from both and how much each are in one extreme, I think there should be a common ground as I believe extremes make it harder for everyone and some of the arguments are valid on both sides–like cooked spinach is easier to absorb and has better nutrient value when cooked-but, I don’t want to start that argument here. (Maybe I just did :( )
Raw foodist have the advantage in many grounds but as you all know it is not easy to keep up and it is quite expensive to make the transition or to even totally change your way of eating.

I still have to loose 6 more kilos and 7% more fat, and then I will post my results as well as how my race went(if I was able to finish). All I can say is that this forum has helped me tremendously, I wish there were more guys out there (nothing against you girls, but I need some male recommendations on how to approach this diet, if you know what I mean!).

I went from a couch potato eating a whole (big bag) of potato chips a day plus 3 to 4 beers!!! To juicing and eating raw foods, running, reading more, getting more out-doorsy and as a whole a better person, so in all it already helped me to change my way of life. Still a long shot and still really easy to go back to my “old ways” but I will continue. I hope that by October 30th or November I can post some results.

Today was good.

Yesterday was SUPERB!

Super long hike with hubby to another of our local waterfalls, two hours UP HILL, then a nice breezy way down.

I have been craving so many bananas it is insane. Yesterday I had TEN, along with a whole bunch of greens.

Today I took is easier. I made two green smoothies this morning with 3 cups of spinach, 2 bananas and a cup of grapes. That got me through an entire shift! It was very busy today so I went the entire day without a break, those smoothies really do work wonders!

Afterwards I felt it though! I got home and a made another of the same smoothie.

Hubby got home, we went to the beach for an easy walk for our daily exercise.

all together:

4 Bananas
6 cups of baby spinach
1 cup red grapes
5 cups cabbage
2 cups romaine
1 green bell pepper
2 tomatoes
5 oz coconut with it's water
3 apples

olive oil/apple cider vinegar for the dressing on my salad.

I've also been picking a little bit at my sprouts. They've started their little tails today!

I feel fantastic, no cravings other than banana, and I even wore a skirt in public for the first time in my life today!

here's to everyone else doing so well!

Today was the first day of school! It was so exhilarating, I felt like I was on a high since 7 in the morning to midnight. I love school! And somehow it was SO much easier to be 100% raw today as I dove passionately into my life. There were no boring gaps to fill up with sad food.

B: kiwi
S: guacamole, a sip of my friend's green smoothie
L: fennel and orange salad
S: handful of walnuts, a peach, and an apple
D: big salad of romaine and mustard greens, with chopped apple and ginger

And tomorrow's my birthday! woohoo!

Busy busy day, starting with my 5:30 shift at work.
B:Green smoothie of spinach, bananas and cinnamon
L: Green smoothi of avocado, tomatoes, celery, red pepper, and garlic.

My green smoothie fast, which started last Friday after a three day water fast, came to an abrupt end tonight. I came home from work absolutely starving, only to find I had to take my daughter to her volleyball game 20 miles away (I thought she was riding with a friend). No time for a green smoothie.
At the store I bought grape tomatoes and 2 nectarines.
then when I got home, I had some raw onion crackers my daughter had made. DELISH!!!!! I had planned to break it in the morning anyway.

By the end of the 8 days I was really craving fat. so I need to add just a little fat to my smoothies next time around I think

Morning all,

Day off work today so I'm taking it easy. Yesterday and today have been my first days of "detox" while on solid raw foods. My legs feel so weak and tensed up. My mind is a little cloudy, but only in the sense that I cannot focus on one thing for too long.

I just finished a 15 minute routine of light weights, I usually do an hour or more, but my legs cannot take any more, and it's taking a toll on the rest of my muscles to some extent. Hubby and I may go for a walk after he gets home from work which might help alleviate the tenseness some more.

Breakfast was the same green smoothie as yesterday; 2.5 cups spinach, 1 cup red grapes, and 1 small banana.

Post-workout smoothie was..interesting, but very good! I used 40grams of avocado with a cup of sweet potato skins, 1 apple, and 1 small banana.

It tasted earthy, only slightly sweet, and had the texture of yogurt with granola (I added skins in last to preserve a bit of crunch :)).

SO GOOD!

I have laundry to do today...that is my big goal haha..I did the rest of the cleaning as soon as I woke up. I honestly do not feel like climbing up and down seven floors to the laundry room though *sigh*.

One great side effect of RAW so far though..I have my lucid dreams back! I have been a lucid dreamer since I was a very small child, but with my depression and illness the last year I have maybe had one or two. It been almost every night since I finished my juice fast! I feel so refreshed in the morning, like I've "been somewhere" all night.

ahh....the powers of raw foods! Oh, and my three pairs of good jeans are too big now..darn :) .

Have a great day everyone!

Today is my bday! My totally NOTraw friend surprised me at school with a quarter of a watermelon, two jars of delicious green smoothie that she had made from kale and raspberries, and some expensive raw chocolate. I almost cried, it was so thoughtful.

so today was:
a mango
walnuts in class
a fuji apple
a salad with romaine, avo, tomato, leek, salt and cumin
a few raw chocolates
watermelon
green smoothie with kale and raspberry

now i'm gonna take a nap before going back to class tonight!

today started out same as usual, drank a ton of water till I got hungry then had a banana and a few nuts (BTW is it improper food combining to have nuts with fruit? Dont know if I could change, I love the mixture anyway:p), Anyhow I came down with the worse headache AGAIN and was exhausted AGAIN that I caved and had a cup of black tea. I do know these were withdrawal systems but I just couldnt take it anymore. So that was my UGH!!!
So for dinner I had my "taco meat" tacos with green onion, alfalfa sprouts, sprouted red quinoa and almond hummus. I actually made 3 but ended up just eating 1 cause I was full, that would've never happened SAD, my addictions and the addictive substances they use would have kept me eating well after I was full.
All in all it was a very good day. Glad to hear everyone is staying on track

Dinner will most likely be another salad with substantial toppings -- avocado for sure!

hello everyone!

Sorry Im not posting every day, but we currently do not have internet at our house, so we have to drive to a hot spot.
Today has been good! I ate watermelon, and tonight a huge salad, raw corn on the cobb with avocado smeared all over it! Yummy! I walked for about 30 minutes and admit that it was hard pushing the stroller up the inclines!
My feet hurt, but once the weight starts coming off, I know that will subside.
Checked my blook pressure again, still stage 1 hypertension. I know it will lower, so Im not worried.

Tomorrow, it will be more corn and avocado for me!!

OK...so morning was ok, evening, not so great.

Official detox mode everyone!

Physically, still wobbly in some bits, tense in others.

Mentally..and felt like I was about to explode!

As soon as hubby got home I was near tears with every sentence! No idea why, we weren't in a sour mood at all at the time..

I figured it out though! I have mental clarity, so much more so that I cannot function! I refer to it as my "school mind". The one where I was able to finished two art portfolios, keep all my other grades in the upper 90's, exercise and eat healthy every day, keep up a long distance relationship, and all that after leaving an abusive environment and moving to a new city..ha..

That was long winded. But during that time I could do SO much, think SO much and just "have it all".

A lot has changed...it faded....and now that I have it back I am in shambles as to what to do with myself! I find that before and after work all I do is clean, make a meal, make hubby's meal, then just plop on the computer or in front of a movie. We do our daily exercise as well, but it goes by so fast..

I tried drawing again, but I'm the type of person who can whip up a beautiful piece one night, then for the next month everything else just looks..well...bad to put it mildly. I have three children's books only half completed because I am afraid I'll ruin them with this! So frustrating!

Hubby thought up KNITTING! tehe I've never learned and always wanted to, plus it keeps the hands busy and you have to be focused! He drove out, bought me a bulk bag of yarn..all in my favourite greens!..and some needles.

I've spent the later part of the evening learning how to "cast-on" and do the english knit stitch. I'm going to make a simple scarf for myself..doesn't look too bad so far haha

I forgot how harsh the emotional detox could be! I am ashamed to say I even ended up crying over my hair...I got a horrid cut last month..and all I can do is wait for the bangs to grow out...but I was so upset.

Hubby kept saying to remember that at least my old favourite jeans fit again for me to go back to the happy.

Food wise, pretty good, I did not emotionally eat, but instead waited until I was hungry, had my big dinner salad, then had a pumpkin seed and red grape dessert.

Sorry for the novel! I hope everyone else is feeling a tad better than myself!

Happy birthday kidkid! Mine is friday and I look forward to having it be rawsome. I am actually planning a series of great meals starting tomorrow night and continuing through Sunday before I start another green smoothie fast. Today I worked, and I am really really pooped. In the last 6 days I worked 50 hours. Whew. But now I am off for 8 days.

B:Green smoothie of banana, strawberry, and kale. Wow, I think it was the best one yet.
L: celery with walnut pate, trail mix, prunes, and cantaloupe.
S: More walnut pate with celery. A little bit of raw crackers.

I have a lara bar I bought but really I am full. Right now I have pizza crusts in the dehydrator for basil pesto pizza with mushrooms and green peppers, for supper tomorrow night. Yeah baby.

I bought a juicy watermelon and ate 1/4 of it for breakfast and then some nuts for lunch.

Oh I almost forgot, my good friend started asking me questions about RAW, I told her about my tacos and hummus and I think it peaked her interest, she wanted to know how I found the recipes and I told her whatever Im in the mood for I google it prefaced with 'RAW VEGAN' cause I have yet to buy Alissas book:(. She told me she is trying to stay away from refined foods and sugar so at least she is headed in right direction and it would be nice to have healthy alternatives. Hello, everyone, I had a very busy day, hosting a homeschool co-op day at my home. Our school year has finally begun.

B: Green smoothie of kale, banana, and strawberries. It was way to watery but I drank it down.
L: Zucchini pasta and with tomato sauce. A couple of medjool dates.
Snack: Lara bar
Supper: The most amazing basil pesto pizza. Even my meat eating husband and children loved it. I ate two and a half pieces. It was so good.
Snack: Well, I couldn't keel from licking my fingers while I was making RP brownie bites.

In the dehydrator now I have two types of crackers as well as the brownie bites (might make for an interesting flavor combination, lol. My oldest daughter has an out of town volleyball tournament tomorrow and Saturday and wants to stay raw. So I am sending her out with the pizza, crackers, brownie bites, lara bars, and lots of fruit. She can supplement that with salads in restaurants and should be ok. She is such a trooper and living proof that athletes can thrive on raw food.

Happy Birthday katchmoleen and to your son, tvillemom!

Last night was rough for me. I felt VERY emotional and was SO tempted to eat cooked food! I literally felt stomach hunger even though I was eating every raw thing I could find to put in my mouth to try to stop the cravings! I knew that I was feeling emotional and that the intense cravings to EAT were because of that. I am not used to the actual true feelings of hunger when that is happening, though! I used to eat like that when I wasn't hungry or even if I was full. I have always heard of 'emotional detox' but I don't know that I have really experienced it before, even when I was raw for long periods of time. I am going through a lot of changes in life right now, so maybe that is why I am feeling this rushing in like this? At least I can tell what is going on (I think?) so that helps to just ride it out. Interesting!

We are 1/3 of the way through this challenge... keep up the good work everyone! And have a wonderful raw day!

My roommates and I usually grocery shop together and share all groceries....but the only problem is that they buy crappy food that I don't eat and then they eat all my fruits and vegetables and I'm left with nothing. So i seceded from the food sharing. Now it's much easier to stay raw because I have my own stash of food that only i eat! and they didn't mind. They thought it was a good idea too.

today:
fruit salad (strawberries, banana, apple, avocado, balsamic vinegar)
gala apple
walnuts
orange
probably a salad later

it's getting cold here in NYC and feels like fall. I like it.

Hang in there Raediance, and good for you for staying raw. One of the great things about raw is that if you want to eat, you CAN. I think that makes the whole emotional eating thing a whole lot easier because there is no guilt. And when there is no guilt, emotional eating eventually goes away on its own. That's my theory anyway.

Its all so clear to me now, 'member me saying how tired I was, how I had taken like 3 naps in one day. Well it turned out to be a female thing and because Im detoxing I didnt recognize the symptoms. I thought "Im to busy to be so stinkin tired" but alas it is over and I feel GREAT, which totally explains my burst of energy yesterday.

Anyway you all had some great points, Heather I LOVE that you had dessert for breakfast, I have to agree with katchmoleen about never having guilt about what we eat or for that matter when, like dessert for breakfast:D, its so freeing. And Raediance...we sympathize, I wanted to let you know that these first 10 days (cause today has been so much better) my stomach always felt empty too no matter how much I ate, but I think it was physically adapting, going back to a normal size. I dont know where I had heard this but the stomach is actully the size of you balled up fist. When we over consume it stretches out. I hope the best for you:) And kidkid so jealous about NYC, here in So. Cal. its been really hot:cool: and I love the cold, and I totally understand about the groceries, my hubbies not RAW and will consume all my bananas and cucumbers, to mention a few examples. Dont get me wrong Im glad he at least eats them but when he follows it with a huge plate of cheesy nachos or steak and potatoes it is kinda a waste. Oh well I should be grateful for the small things.

Oh yah before I forget I ate a 1/4 watermelon today....thats it

Just finished watching Earth with my four younger children. What an amazing movie!
B: Had a few swallows of the chia pudding my daughter made me. It was good but too runny so I added some more seeds and will have it tomorrow with some fruit mixed in.
L: Crackers with eggless egg spread (recipe on this site......YUM)
S: Salad with snowdrops ranch dressing (also from this site) and nori rolls made with more eggless spread and celery and mushrooms.
Dessert: Hazelnut Chocolate dessert. Unfortunately this was a BIG disappointment for me. The crust and chocolate part were good, but I had to do a bunch of substituting for the topping and I thought it was gross. I had only a small piece and scraped off most of the topping, but it was SO RICH and now I have a bit of a belly ache and some twinges in my gall bladder area. So I will be letting the kids finish it. We made a double recipe and barely have touched it, so they will be feasting on it. I had to substitute cashews for macadamias, coconut milk made from dried mature coconut rather than young Thai (don't even know if these exist in Montana lol) and regular coconut oil for the scentless. The amount of coconut oil seemed excessive. My daughter said it tasted fine till she added all that coconut oil, and it had a strong aftertaste. I am still burping it up. Oh well, live and learn!

Breakfast:

Spinach/banana/red grape smoothie

Lunch at work:

2 whole Sheppard peppers
a few tablespoons of green bean and garlic dip I blended up
1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds

After work snack:

2 apples

Cucumber, red pepper, and mixed sprouts tossed with vinegar

Dinner later on:

Big salad- 3 cups romaine, 2.5 cups baby spinach, red onions, pepper, sprouts, olive oil/vinegar.

Probably more fruit or another salad after that, or I may just make my dinner salad even bigger, add carrots or something else.

I only got to do my strength training today. Our long bike ride was canceled due to the break on both of our bikes needing replacing..darn! I walked and lifted a lot at work at least.

Feeling very hungry today and experiencing a bit of runny nose, otherwise pretty good.

One thing I love though about being raw, I am so optimistic. Every time, and I mean EVERY time, I get a negative thought or am put in a negative situation the very next though is, "ok, so how can I make this positive, how can I turn this into a learning challenge?".

LOVE IT! I'm much happier.

My knitting is improving as well, my neck is going to be so warm and comfy this winter! which is great..because I still cannot get warm with two blankets, a sweater, hot waterbottle along with either hubby or the kitty. I've started leaving most of my fruit out on the counter when I go to bed, hopefully room temperature food will help with the chills.

have a great night everyone!

Big bed of lettuce and arugula, some very thinly sliced fennel, leek, squeezed some grapefruit juice over it, and then put on some chunks too, a little salt, and cracked some black pepper over it -- it was SOOOO GOOOOD. Fennel and citrus taste so good together. I'm getting really into just squeezing an orange or a grapefruit over my salads too.

Had a green smoothie for breakfast, my first one in three days. Boy do I miss them when I don't have them!
B: Smoothie of kale, strawberries, and bananas
L: Raw tomato soup, crackers and Da Bomb cheeze sauce. RP brownie bites for dessert.
S: Will finally be my actual birthday dinner now that my daughter is home. One daughter has made the tortillas (from Alissa's book) and they are in the dehydrator now. Will have those with mushroom filling, guacamole, and sour "creme". Yu-um.

OK ok now on day 4, feel so happy! I don't know about you, but i'm goping crazy for bananas. I can eat 8 of them each day. Oh and I ate the best papaya ever today, I like to be in central america ;)

Yesterday I was invited at a friend's house. She had these small breads and we were kind of suppose to eat them, so I hate one, was thinking about my raw challenge... i broke after 3 days, oh my!! Ok not that i'm not following it, cuz today was a 200% raw day, but how do you deal with these invitations when it's impossible to eat raw?

THank you and have a great day!

Good day today.

Green smoothie this morning. I've had them almost everyday for breaky so far, they sustain me so well!

Apple and nectarine for a pre-work snack,
Cucumber and pepper diced together with pumpkin seeds for work lunch,

and now I am feasting on my delicious big salad! 2 whole shepard peppers, 1 red onion, 2 large carrots, and a head of romaine lettuce. I then blended up corn kernels with olive oil and used that for the dressing.

So freaking good!

Myshift ended up longer than expected so hubby and I were unable to go for our planned hike, but we at least drove to the stairs that go up the side of the escarpment and walked up and down it a few times :).

I'll probably have more apples or peppers late for a snack.

pictures are my big salad, and a photo when we were almost to the top of the stairs :).

I forgot to log in yesterday but it was great.

banana
plum
Lara bar
lightly steamed veggies (we went to a chinese restaurant with some friends and that was all I could see to order. If anyone has suggestions for future dining experiences I would welcome them)

Anyhow today Im sipping on a coconut water/banana/pinapple smoothie:D

My friend is becoming more curious about RAW, she even bought me the ingredients to make a cheesecake so she could try it. Let me ask all of you, is cocnut oil essential for cheesecake or can I get away with using coconut pulp?

GlimR that salad sounds delightful I will need to get a couple ingredients and try it! So far today 2 bananas (went for a walk) then just had an orange and a handful of nuts. Last night I had a huge salad for dinner, I think I will have a large veggie juice or smoothie later and maybe tonight just some fruit?

Today has been great so far.

Woke up and went for an hour long bike ride around the park, 10 laps!

Trip to the bank and now I am FINALLY having breakfast. So hungry...

3 medium bananas and 1 cup red grapes in a smoothie for now.

I may have another smoothie very soon, I feel painfully hungry today.

Dinner will be another giant salad.

Work in a few hours so I've got some time to settle and relax.

Good morning everyone!:)

I hope everyone is having a good start to a new day.
Right now I am having a green smoothie w/oj, spinach, spirulina, banana, blueberry & MSM. I am adding that everyday in hopes of keeping my skin supple and resilient as I drop the weight.

Possible choices today-
Spicy Thai Vegetable Wraps and/or
Corn Salad w/corn, tomato, red pepper, red onion, avocado, lime, cilantro &
sea salt.
Peaches
Mixed green salad w/ strawberries
Donut Holes

If I can scrounge the time I want to make some onion bread and Rebecca Carlson's Truffles. I don't eat something sweet everyday, but I like to have a choice if I want something and they are fantastic. One thing great about raw treats is that I never overeat them, one or two satisfy in a way no sad foods ever could.

morning!

GlimR- that corn salad sounds wonderful! I think I'll make my lunch salad just like it, minus the lime (allergies). Thanks!

Today is going well, I'm all warmed up from my shower, bedroom is tidied, dishes put away, everything is good.

Breaky will be a green smoothie; spinach, red cabbage, red peppers, maybe banana or grape, though I'm not craving a sweet one today....

Lunch is the salad mentioned above! with some olive oil.

Dinner will be lots of sprouts mixed with red peppers.

And then my dessert/snack for the evening will be 5 oz of coconut with it's milk, and some grapes or other fruit. Sooo looking forward to the coconut!

I'd like to say that I am officially feeling the buzz! I feel fantastic inside and out, and the connection I have with my body is astounding! I feel this little nudge everytime it needs something. I must admit I was a little apprehensive about the whole "listening to your body's cues" when it came to eating...but my god! It works so well, and is much more prominent than I thought it would be. You cannot ignore those nudges!

Good day everyone!

Wow half way through the month already!!! Today I woke up refreshed, hopped out of bed at 6 am, started doing laundry, made my daughter breakfast, walked her to school and learned how to download stinkin pictures.....and the day just started:D

So far all I've had was a juicy plum, not really hungry. As I said yesterday I will be having my lasagna for lunch and dinner is still up in the air. I bought a few bananas for today and plan on making some cashew butter, BTW the cashew milk I made last night was so filling and helped me fall asleep nice and cozy.

Oh my that sounds good, where did you get the recipe? Especially the bruschetta part.

Trader Joes has a "Sundried tomato, green olive and olive oil" bruschetta. It was cheaper then preparing myself, is that cheating?:o and the cheese recipe I found on internet when I googled RAW lasagna, so many recipes,I just found one in which I had all the ingredients. Then I made up my own bell pepper concoction and sliced zucchini super thin. No sorry I do not have Alissas book yet so I have to be creative

Welcome to day 16!

Day 0
Well I guess that I should start out my introducing myself and why I started to go raw for 30 days.

I have to admit the biggest reason that i'm starting the raw food diet is so that I can loose weight without having to count calories. It would be nice just to get the diet part to just feel natural and not so mathematical. I'm tired of being over weight and I just can't wait to get free and have more energy!

I am 5 ft 5 and the heaviest that I have ever weighed was 165 pounds. However, I lost 12 pounds two summers ago. I did it by adding raw kale to my diet. Each bag i bought was huge! I would buy two bags every week. When I was hungry, I would snack on the kale as if they were potato chips. However, when I went back to school, I was too busy/lazy to buy more kale.

I currently weigh 147 pounds (I lost more weight after meeting my boyfriend- you know that too love sick to eat thing)- and I would like to weigh somewhere in the 120s. I don't known- I'll figure out my idea weight later. I just want to look better than I do now.

I know that when my mom was in grad school- she ate an about a 50 to 75% raw/ lightly steamed food diet. She was a poor grad student at the time and would buy really cheap veggies from the old lady who lived down the street. She does not know about the raw food diet, but she look unnaturally young when she was 30. In fact, after she had me- most people thought that she was 16. She became really unpopular at the grocery store- because many people thought that she was a teen mom. However, this seemed to continue on even when she went back to a diet with only 25% to 50% raw food. (although she doesn't look 16 anymore- but around 30 since she is know 50 years old). I don't know if it was genetics or raw food- but I guess I will find out.

When I first read about the raw food diet- it seemed too good to be true. However, now, I think that this would really help me out. When I was really little and lived up North- I use to eat so much more salads and veggies. Back then, I had bright glowing red lips and my eyes were a much brighter color. However, when my mom had trouble storing fresh veggies when we moved south (they would go bad after 2 days!) we started to eat them less.

I do seem to have a lack of energy and my face does break out every once in a while.

So here is what I ate today: Day 0 (this day doesn't count- its just a warm up)

B: 1/4 cup peanuts and, 1/4 cup raisins, 1/4 cup hummus, 1 cup carrots
L: SAD lunch
D: 1/4 cup raisins, 1/4 peanuts, 2 cups mustard greens, 1/4 hummus, 1 sun dried tomatoes, 1/4 avocado, 1 cup carrots, 1 frozen banana

Oh my ultimate goal is 100% raw for 1 month. However, to me to seems a little unrealistic so my realistic goal is to do more than 75%. That way if I mess up- or share eat a cooked meal with a friend once or twice this month- its still ok!:D However, if I do manage to get 100%- it will be above and beyond!

Oh, since my school is made up of 1/3 vegetarians- our cafeteria has a juicer and a salad bar! Any good salads that i can make from a standard salad bar? Mine tend to not come out very well. I don't really the spinach salad with the hummus on top. Thus explains the SAD lunch. (Although i love carrots and hummus). Which salad dressing are raw? Wait they do have oil and vinegar- I will try that next time. Problem solved!

See you later!
