S: apple
D: beet & tomato soup with 1 spoonful pb.
I really need to up my water intake. I was so busy running after my kids today that I forgot to drink my fluids. :o
I think my legs are looking thinner. :) I haven't been on a scale yet today, so I don't know if I've lost any weight.
Have a good day 12 everyone!

Hi all, I have not been 100% since I started this month so thats why the absence from posting. I know why it has been a struggle, because once you slip up your body remembers the addiction. So here is day 12 and although almost half way through the month I'm picking myself up, dusting myself off and continueing forward. I do feel like I'm detoxing all over again but if thats the price I have to pay then I welcome it.
b - pomegranite smoothie
l - green salad
d- almond hummus and veggies

Welcome Back Clover
I'm glad you made it back, no matter what time of the month it is.:)
You are doing the most important thing, and that is returning to your goal and starting, the one day at a time journey of the Living on Live Food Lifestyle.
Best of luck staying on track.

I watched a great dvd last night by Vayla Boutenko called "Reversing the Irreversible". It really inspired me to stay on this path to great health. A lot of the people in the video healed from a variety of serious illnesses mainly with raw foods but also with yoga, exercise, sun, spirituality, etc. Most of them mentioned green smoothies or green juice and juice fasting.
That got me to consider juice fasting myself. I have done successful juice fasts in the past, but it has been quite awhile. I think it would be great to get caught up on everything this week so I can really relax next week and juice fast as many days as my body is reasonably able to. I have been eating all raw foods this month so far, so I guess that already counts as transitioning. It would probably be a good idea to focus on eating less though to really be ready for it. I really think I can do it and I'm actually excited about it. I have adrenal exhaustion so a good rest is definitely needed. I want to sleep as much as I need to and focus on doing whatever positive things I feel like doing during that time. It is hard for me to realize that it's okay to take a week off to rest, but I would be forced to take a week off if I were sick with a cold or something like that, so why not do it in a better way? I hope this upcoming fast will help me get over my cravings.
On another note, I found out aspirin is (temporarily) alkaline which is why it appears to help me when I have headaches. However, the end effect on your body is acidifying. That's just like how lemon juice is (temporarily, before digestion) acidic but once it is digested, the alkaline minerals are extracted and used by your body. Therefore, a much better choice than aspirin would be a green juice or smoothie. I will try it next time!

hey all!
This morning I realized I was out of frozen veggies and bananas, so I scanned the countertops and decided to try kiwis in my green smoothie. Yum! I will definitely be continuing this through the week.
Throughout the day I've had two apples, two large carrots, spinach and sprout salad with a few olives and tomato, and a few coconut crackers. It feels like I've had something else too but I can't remember what it was . . . one of those days I guess!
I've also been drinking lots of water, both cold and warm, as the temperature is dropping pretty significantly around here. A mug of warm water is surprisingly satisfying, but I'm looking forward to growing and drying my own tea soon.
Anyway, nothing else planned for me to eat today as I've got to go to yoga tonight, but I may have a piece of fruit when I'm home.

Top of the mornin to ya'll, how is everyone doing? Im so happy its fall and I absolutley adore all the fall fruits and veggies: pomegranites, guayabas (sp?), parsimmons with its sweet delicate hint of cinnamon:D. I find myself not as hungry inthemorning as when I was SAD and I've learned to listen to my body and eat only when hungry, a RAW truth as you all know.
b - water
l - cauliflower marinated in olive oil/purple onion/jalapeno/garlic/sea salt
d - tbd (I like to suprise myself)
Since its getting chillier my SAD self does crave warm comforting foods BUT I have a plan: eat spicy foods and exercise more. I realized yesterday that I was cold on the outside which rezonated (sp) to inside which left me craving warm foods BUT if I do a quick 30 min workout I would warm up all over:p So anyway thats the plan and I hope it helps any who might struggle with this same predicament.
Oh p.s. : I made my portabello mushroom pizza with brushetta as my sauce, cashew cheese and bell peppers and onion as my topping and 2 SAD friends LOVED it!!! 1 for us:D

Hello all! Hope you're having a great Tuesday! I started this morning with my green smoothie of 3 kiwis and spinach/arugula mix, coconut oil and probiotics and msm.
For snacking I've got a couple of kiwis and apples, almonds and dates and some strange carrot snacks I made in the dehydrator. I also have a spinach/sprout with oil/salt/pepper for lunch.
Last night I was challenged - my neighbors made vegan dahl to share with me, and I had to politely decline. My husband was eating it and it smelled amazing! I am glad I was able to stick to the plan.
Edit: I ended up munching on my salad, an apple, jicima, some almonds, and then dinner AGAIN at Thrive. I had the thai salad and split some nachos with a friend, ooh and had their ginger lemonade. I'm so addicted to this place, I have got to figure out how they make their onion cashew dip.
Hey everyone :)
Fall really settled in here now. Extremely windy and chilly weather, and I'm feeling cold just like you Clover! I exercise and use spicy spices too :rolleyes:
1: smoothie: 1/2 mango, 2 bananas, 2 stalk celery, 6 leaves bok choy
2: muesli: berries, mature coconut meat, a banana, an apple, handful of walnuts, dried figs, grapes, aaaand almond mylk (this is a first too)
3: tried hummus first time in my life ever, and I'm so glad that its also a raw one (zucchini hummus) in lettuce wraps with cucumbers, red bell pepper, carrots and little sauerkraut
spicy stuff, really warmed me up...
my second meal was sooo huge I didn't feel the need to have even snacks in between

Hey Challengers, Que Pasa?
It was very tough for me this weekend. I visited family upstate New York and had to be the one and go pick up the Pizza and the pastries at the bakery. This didn't bother me too much but watching them eat it did. I must admit I had a cup of coffee (black & w/o sugar).
My Uncle really tried to get me to eat some Puerto Rican food when I went across town to visit him so I lied and told him I just ate a large meal.
Today I had a Green Smoothie for both Breakfast and Dinner and a very small salad for lunch. I felt such a strong desire to eat Rice or Pasta this evening and wondered if this was due to my challenge to stay Raw over the weekend.

I didn't get enough sleep again last night. It is almost impossible for me to eat reasonably when I am sleep deprived. I managed to eat all raw foods, but I had a lot of fats and too much food overall. I couldn't do any exercise either. I am going to do my best to sleep in tomorrow so I can have a better day.

Well... Today I have been eating... pretty much non-stop.
I have had 3 pears
a MASSIVE salad witgh heaps of leaves, cucumber, avocado, nuts and some olive oil. It was really yummy (though a bit too fatty)
Then I just made a green smoothie with cranberries, blackberries and spinich with some cocoa and honey too.
I have to walk back to uni now as I have an assignment to do. I am going to take a couple more pears with me to munch on if I want. Iam also keen to go to the gym after if it is too late to bus home and then taxi home from there after going to the supermarket. I need more greens!

Checking in with all of my fellow 30 day raw challenge buddies!
I hope you are all feeling great!
This is my report for today:
(I am starting to have a tablespoon of Green Powder in some of my green juice for added benefits.) I also take a b12 tab every now and then.
Breakfast: GREEN JUICE Made with Kale/chard/celery and an apple
Snack: Organic Honey Crisp - My favorite apple!!!! Yum
Lunch: Green Smoothie : Spinach/banana/raspberries/strawberries/blueberries
Dinner: Curried Spinach Masala with Cauliflower Rice
Dessert: Raspberry/Blueberry Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake :p:D
Hey everyone!
The sunrise was so beautiful today, and the chilly fresh air was fantastic too when I went out for a good walk. Then I had my MS (magenta smoothie). Going to buy some wind&water proof clothes today.
1: Magenta smoothie: 2 cup mixed berries, 2 oranges, 2 stalk celery, 6 large lettuce leaves
2: muesli: berries, grapes, apple, walnuts, mature coconut meat, almond pulp from yesterday's almond mylk, raisins; 1 banana blended with some water and poured on it
3: "Pistachio" smoothie: 4 Tbsp ground flax seeds, 1/3 cucumber, 1 banana, 1 green apple, some lettuce leaves - no water to make it thick. It turned out pretty much pistachio tasting and coloured (unsalted taste of course :p) yummy
4: 2 apples, grapes, an orange

We are almost half way through this challenge! It has been difficult, but I really want to make it through the month. I've been having green smoothies for breakfast for awhile now and I recently added salads back in. I have been eating more than I want to lately, mostly due to not doing enough other enjoyable things. I am planning a juice fast for next week so I am trying to get ahead on everything this week so I can just relax during it.

Hi everyone! And congrats to all of you - how are you feeling?
I fell off the wagon :( - hard. So hard I could not even see where the wagon went! But I am back with renewed vigor and many lessons learned.
It is odd to have cravings for dead food. Why do we have them? I gave into mine convincing myself that if my body craved it, it must need it. (Even though that makes absolutely no sense that a body would crave death?) Well giving into those cravings was not worth it! I feel bad and I look worse.
So I am back! I was so happy to have a green smoothie yesterday morning when I restarted the 30 day raw feast. So today is day 2! It is doubly tough now - my body is craving white sugar and I have a headache.
B: pineapple, banana
L: salad with celery root, carrots, tomatoes, pumpkin seeds and mustard sprouts
D: Meeting a friend in Paris for dinner tonight, but that fear of being tempted to eat cooked food is no longer with me. I "gave in" at a resto last weekend and felt horrible afterwards - including the next day. I have no qualms requesting a raw salad now, amazing the changes that are occuring mentally for me to integrate being raw and being in society.
Have a great day everyone!

Tguch, sometimes lessons are hard to learn! But I believe that we are meant to make mistakes in life; at least I hope so, because I make quite a few, lol. Perfection is not the goal :)
Day 15 for me, I'm struggling with cravings worse than I have all month. I'm feeling sleepy in the mornings (yesterday and today) and I'm not sure what that's about, but I'm looking forward to sleeping in this weekend. Yesterday I took off from work because I didn't feel well, and spent most of the evening on the couch. Also interesting, my weight hasn't dropped in about a week.
Anyway, I'm holding strong (so far :) ). This morning I had my normal green smoothie, and I've got the usual fare with me for the rest of the day - spinach salad, kiwi, nuts, etc.
Hey everyone, stick to it, don't give up!
Tguch, we are all here for you, just remember to always get up from the floor, no matter what :)
Well, might be too much information, but I have to write it down anyway :p
I didn't have a BM yesterday, so I waited today with eating until I had one. After that I made a smoothie of lettuce, ground flax seeds, prunes and a banana, hopefully they'll take some effect...
Later I had some carrot and cucumber sticks dipped in that zucchini humus and sauerkraut.
My last meal for the day was made up of: 3 tangerines and 2 kiwis.
Vacation time is coming up on the 23th, and I plan on doing a Master Cleanse during it (the vacation will be 11 days long, perfect length for the cleanse - at least for a first one I think;)). I really feel the need to sweep out my whole system (I don't seek weight loss by it), eating raw haven't been of a challenge so far, but I'm sure I would reap the real benefits on a reset system.

Checking In for today:
Breakfast: Greeen Juice & Green Smoothie
I add a tablespoon of green powder to my juice for that extra green magic!:);)
Lunch: Lettuce & Red Pepper & Alissa's Amazing Raw LASAGNA:p
Did I mention that Alissa's Lasagna is AMAZING!!! I finally made it for the first time,after being inspired by Renee H and her wonderful photos. I LOVE it so much that I am already making it again, today for tomorrow. It needs to dehydrate overnight which makes it unbelievably tasty. I am sure you could eat it without dehydrating, too. It is really good at all times, but after dehydrating the flavors are soo intense and delicious!!!
Dinner: I will have a salad and small slice of RAW raspberry chocolate moouse pie :p
snack my favorite local organic apple - HoneyCrisp
Keep on Rawkin'

I am glad to be half way through! Today was hard again because I didn't do enough fun or relaxing things. I am starting to transition for my juice fast next week by eating less overall. There will be 4 transition days total, including today. I am thinking about signing up for 1 month of hot yoga, which I have done before, to help me detox during my fast. I am worried that it will be too hard for me because I have tried to do yoga during fasting before and wasn't able to, but I need to remember that it's ok to do child's pose or savasana most of the time.
Hey everyone!
Today I felt like I was eating non-stop...
- 2 apples
- 2 tangerine, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds
- apple, pear, soaked dried figs
- marinated in olive oil, lemon juice and apple cider vinegar :carrot, broccoli, red bell pepper, welsh onions, zucchini, mung bean sprouts
- the above again with a little bit of sauerkraut
- banana, frozen berries made into a whipped cream-ish-ice-cream-ish treat with a little bit of cinnamon in a food processor. It was heavenly!

D: Green smoothie - spinach, pear and grapes; snack of red pepper and probably will have some dates later!

Ahh...S..l..o..w..l..y slipping:eek:
BUT My mind and heart are converted. In the past when I have slipped I usually had a major guilt trip on my self and just threw in the towel all together. This time something has changed I still feel I have the courage, self compassion and determination to keep trying and to keep doing my best. Tomorrow is a new day.
You've got the right mindset, compassion is definitely what you need when you slip up (especially if you're the type that beats themself up a lot)
If you've not listened to it, Practicing the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is a great way to focus on the present moment rather than getting bogged down by negative emotions (pm me know if you have difficulty finding it)
Just hearing his voice is calming, almost hypnotic
Greens really take away the cravings for cooked food and sugars
I'll try that out, thanks for the tip

I am preparing for a juice fast starting Monday, so I am trying to eat less overall. Waking up in the morning and not being able to have anything but juice will be the hardest part for me. I decided to prepare today by seeing if I could at least wait an hour or more before eating breakfast. I did it! I was able to just have lemon water and a cup of tea then take a walk to get my mind of eating for awhile. When I returned, I ate a delicious smoothie of mango, papaya, and romaine. I really didn't think I could do this, so I'm really glad. Later on when I was doing school work (not what I love) I noticed it was much harder to eat lightly. As long as I treat my fast like a vacation and don't allow any work, I think I will be fine!

Good Morning to all,
Aside from a cup of coffee I am still challenging the challenge. I must say it is tough at times as I still desire certain dishes but overall whenever I feel a strong desire for these I simply have an alternative. I haven't eaten much the last few days aside from a few green smoothies (no appetite).
I also still have an addiction to Raw GTS Kombucha (http://www.synergydrinks.com/). I had four the other day. I am trying to get down to at least one every few days. I was informed they are Raw not good for the body in excess.
Have a great day.
Hey everyone!
Still rawkin on raw, the past 2 days I've "craved" things more in their closer to liquid form and a lot of fruits, so used my food processor quite a lot. I'm also happy that finally my BMs are starting to adjust to raw food nicely.
Yesterday:
- in FP: banana, berries, cinnamon, nutmeg, dried coconut meat till creamy, poured on diced apples in a bowl
- kiwis, berries, plums smoothie
- carrots, zucchini, welsh onion, broccoli, cucumber, sauerkraut marinated in olive oil then eating with some zucchini hummus
- apples, pear, almond pulp, carob powder, cinnamon, berries in FP
Today:
- in FP: berries, banana, cinnamon, nutmeg till creamy, poured on diced apples and fresh mint in a bowl
- mango, apple, red onion, fresh mature coconut meat processed in FP
- GS: 3/4 head of lettuce, apple, pear, plums
- plan to eat some wheat sprouts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds; a salad with carrots, bok choy, cauliflower and/or broccoli, cucumbers, parsley with the last bit of zucchini hummus left

Hello, everyone, I am in the middle of a very busy day.
B: Nothing
L: Leftover spinach cream casserole
S: Not sure yet.
I am making a bunch of raw stuff to take on a trip Thurs-Sat. We are going to watch my (raw) daughter play in her state volleyball tournament. They have a really good chance at placing second and a shot at first! So I have made crackers, cookies, fudge, and have some calzone dough in the first stages. Also doing a mountain of laundry and trying to get some fun t-shirts decorated to wear at the tournament. Oy vey! I need a nap but that will not happen now.

Hey all! Today I've had a green smoothie, two honeycrisps :), a banana, and a cucumber. Oh and some raw almonds.
I've noticed something strange that I can't explain - Wednesdays seem to be tough for me. Low energy, slight nausea, not hungry. Last week was so bad I left work early. Today was tolerable but still noticeable. Anyone else? Could it be detox?

Today was the 3rd day of my juice fast! I have never eaten all raw in a balanced way for a whole month yet. I've done one month in an unbalanced way with barely any greens and lots of packaged snacks every day. I only had negative results from doing that. I've done about 3 weeks in June of eating all raw in a balanced way. I am excited to keep going and make it through this whole month 100% raw!
Today I had 40 oz of green juice, lemon water, a kombucha, and coconut water. I have also been doing hot yoga for the past 3 days and it's really helping me.

Hello!
Had a great day - am really happy with how my taste buds are changing. The thought of lemon-olive oil dressing feels more appealing in my mouth than a piece of pizza. What a change from just 2 weeks ago!!
Ate a lot today...
B: strawberries with hazlenut cream
L: cabbage wraps stuffed with broccoli sprouts, turnip, carrot, yellow pepper and mock peanut sauce. Had 6!!
Snack: Raw chocolate!!! My first time every trying it!!! I bought some online from a store in the UK -- it is quite good and you do not need much to hit the spot. :)
Dinner: Just a snack I was still quite full from lunch. Had some raw goat cheese. It is raw, so it fits in the 30-day challenge, but I am not sure I liked the results of eating it... still not sure ...

Hi everyone! How are you doing?
Last night and today I have started to notice a decrease in appetite - I get full faster and it takes longer before I get hungry again. I am even thinking I could be skipping dinner. Did anyone else, or is anyone else, experiencing this?
B: OJ, banana
L: Zucchini-carrot-mushroom salad with raisins, pumpkin seeds and broccoli sprouts, lemon-oil dressing
Snack: pineapple
Dinner: miso-seaweed-mushroom soup with olive-oregano and paprika-sun-dried tomato crackers (From biscru.com - a French company making raw crackers!! Such a great find!)
And for dessert I made my first chocolate mousse!! Oh my goodness! Raw cacao is yummy delicious!!! I am so happy with creamy desserts - so far in this raw adventure this mousse and mango pudding are my happy happy dessert treats!!
Have a great rest of the day everyone :D

Hello, everyone, I am at my daughter's state volleyball tournament. I couldn't connect to the board last night for some reason. But I ate well and stayed raw.
B: Green smoothie of spinach and bananas, drank it in the car on the way to the tournament, a 3 hour car drive.
L: Half of a raw calzone made with Da Bomb Cheeze sauce and a mix of veggies, mostly broccoli and cauliflower, with some peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms. It was DELISH. Also had some flax crackers for a snack.
S: The other half of the calzone and some walnut fudge from Alissa's book. It is so EASY and very tasty, highly recommended,

B: Fruit and tea
L: a horrible salad at a chinese buffet place, and some fruit, and a few bites of my pesto calzone (disappointing).
S: More pesto calzone, crackers, and walnut fudge.
My stomach was very upset this am so no calzone today.

Well, I almost broke today. One, I made a batch of pesto and really had to fight the craving to not put it over whole wheat pasta. I kept saying, you have made it this far, only two plus weeks to go, you can do it! You have had mountains of pasta in the past and there may still be mountains in the future, just not today! Phew! I prevailed. :)
Two, and this is said sheepishly, I was hungover. :o I had a few beers last night and was out super late. Felt not so great today of course, and I am starting to see that this diet change is also going to change my alcohol intake. I only go out for drinks 2ce a week, but I think the number of drinks will start to decrease. It just doesn't feel good.
B: banana-chocolate-almond milk smoothie
L: pesto with green beans and zucchini-etti
D: pear, strawberry, mandarin oranges
Plus, is alcohol raw? Yikes!

We had a fall festival and chili cook-off at my church today. I made a big pot of "white chili" (chicken and white beans) for the cook-off, didn't win, and I made Gabriel Cousen's Autumnal Chili for myself. A couple of friends told me it looked like either vomit or baby poop, but it actually was pretty good, and one of the friends admitted as such. I want to try Alissa's chili, next, as this chili was more like a cream soup, not really chili-ish at all.
B: Trail mix on the way to church, didn't have time to eat!
L: Autumnal chili with grapes and carrot and celery sticks
S: More autumnal chili with the last bit of calzone left from our weekend trip.
I am doing a water fast tomorrow followed by a green smoothie fast for an indefinite amount of time.

We had the last day of my daughter's volleyball tournament, and then travelled back home.
B: Fruit
L: nothing.....I was too nervous to eat, due to my daughter's games! They were very close and nerve wracking. In the end, my daughter's team placed second in the state, and my daughter made All State Team.
I snacked on a handful of trail mix if I felt my blood sugar dropping a bit. Who knew cheering could be so strenuous?
S: A beautiful salad from a salad bar at the natural foods store, eaten in the car. A couple flax crackers.

D: endives with sunflower paté, cabbage-nori-spinach salad, and chocolate mousse for dessert. This was delicious!!

Ummm, that pina colada smoothie sounds divine! I just started a green smoothie fast today so I may have to try that for "dessert."
L: GS of leaf lettuce and bananas
L: Raw chili from Gabriel Cousen's book, made into a smoothie with some lettuce added.
S: Whatever I can find to make a smoothie out of!
Meal planning is def. simple when it is GS time!
BTW we are in the midst of a winter storm here. The wind is howling and the snow swirling. The NWS predicted a warm dry winter for us.....I guess since it is not technically winter yet, they are not wrong! :eek::D

Vegansara, I am so excited for you! Only a few more days to go. What do you think you will do on day 31? Have you thought about it yet? And CONGRATULATIONS! I see you are 1 lb away from your GW. Smiles all around.
As for me, today starts my week 3! And I am really noticing a change. My eyes are considerably clearer, much of the brown streaking over the blue is fading. I had my eyes read over the summer and the iridologist pointed out some not so healthy indicators in my eyes. I really see a difference already (although still ways to go!)
B: 2 bananas
L: carrot-beet-cabbage-celery-lettuce-tomato-pumpkin seed-broccoli sprout-walnut salad
Snack: apple, pear
Dinner: cream of tomato soup, cabbage-nori salad, endive with sunflower paté
Dessert: strawberry-chocolate-almond milk
Yea, I know I said I was eating less. I have definitely increased eating again!! I think it is the running -- I have been running ~8km a day.
Bonne journée!

Good morning everyone! (or afternoon or evening ;) )
Another pina colada green smoothie this morning, so good! For the rest of the day I've got pineapple, pear, apples, almonds and grapes. I'm noticing a lack of veggies, I'll have to shop tonight.
I'm feeling fantastic. The clarity of mind I'm experiencing reminds me of when I used to have a strong meditation practice - it can be a little unnerving at times. And I have given plenty of thought to what I'm going to do on day 31- and ever after. I plan on staying high high raw, probably 100% during the week, with maybe one non raw meal on the weekend. But, I'm really curious about how my body will react to this. I'm amenable to the idea of needing to do 100% raw for the rest of my life. I do know that I will be doing green smoothies every day :)
Edit: I forgot to add that I ordered my vitamix yesterday :D

My food for the day was... Green Smoothie with banana, pineapple, a gloden kiwi and two bunches of spinich.
I had an "energy ball" half before and half after the gym. It had seeds, coconut, sultanas and sesame seeds. Then a couple of bananas for lunch.
I had a salad for dinner with 2 zucchini, a tomato, half a capsicum, cucumber and salad greens.
Desert... 2 frozen bananas, half an avocado and some honey and cinnamon.

Hello!
Ok, I am struggling today. It is freezing cold in the office and I feel low in energy and low in spirits. I keep thinking about having a piece of pizza at lunch to cheer me up. Trying to convince myself that pizza will not make me feel better. (Funny how my mind thinks it will! What evidence does it base that opinion on? Strange).
I think I need to be consuming more green smoothies - from what I read on others' posts these are a strong source of grounding. I definitely need some. I will motivate myself to hold out until I get home tonight when I can have some warming foods at home...

I really really struggled with cravings today. On day 4 of fasting/green smoothies.
B: 2 pears, banana, kale. It was really awful. I don't really like pears but had two that were going bad so I used them. I had to gag this down, way too sweet.
L: avocado, tomatoes, red pepper, cucumber, cilantro. This also did not turn out so well. :mad: Probably why I had such cravings later!
S: 2 bananas, 3 dates, sunflower mylk, and cacao nibs. Now THIS tasted good, and nipped those cravings in the bud!:D

Thanks katchmoleen! I'm pretty excited - what better way to end the month?
Today I had a failed green smoothie - added too much water, was out of bananas, so it was sort of a spinach and blueberry and goji berry juice . . . wasn't pleasant. But I had a cinnamon bun bar and that was great :) I've also had some almonds this morning and am about to have a spinach/sprout/avocado salad, with apples and grapes to snack on this afternoon :)
Wee, congrats everyone!
Finally there were really fresh spinach to buy, so I bought 500g as I ran out of my dandelions, gotta gather some :D
My bananas weren't ripe enough yet so had to throw in some other fruits into my smoothie.

To give myself a little treat to hold me through tonight's temptations I made a delicious raw chili! I dont know why there is somthing about making resolutions on the first that makes them more "valid"...
Anyway this month I have decided to begin training for a 5 km run. It is pretty short but then oh well. Today I have already been to the gym and done 7.6 km on the treadmill. It took me 50 mins but there is such a different level of fitness required to run outside and on a treadmill.
I have had like 3 breakfasts today! First before the gym and was half an avocado just so I had something to tide me over. Second was a larabar (ginger) in town after the gym and just now I have got home and had a yummy brown smoothie! It had 2 bunches of spinich, a golden kiwi, a slice of pineapple half a cup of frozen berries and a banana.

After many months of dithering back and forth and many not very raw days, I am so happy to commit to this month. Yes, we CAN do this for a month and Yes, *I* can, too! Like Rachiel, I love the resolutions that only the first day of a month can bring! Being that it is also a Sunday, I get to start the day at the farmer's market. Ooo, such a fave place.
So I am with you all for support and know I will get it, too.
As I write this, the daily morning crow gathering is going on outside my window and those black beauties keep flying past. That is such a good omen for me: they eat carrion, dead stuff, and when one crosses my path I always say it is helping me remove the dead stuff of my life, the stuff that isn't working. A very good beginning to this month, I would say!

Maybe it is the idea of a fresh start since it is a new month? Anyways, I have been happily raw for a while but have noticed I only have wants to eat something bad when I am stressed out and I happen to see my darling husband eating it...but no more! I have been in control of them before and I need to find better ways to deal with stress (I have before and I just need to renew them). Good luck everyone! :)

Hi All,
My husband and I have been on and off raw for a few months, eating a lot of raw during the day but cooked dinners. We never get our "raw food buzz" when we do that and haven't been feeling as healthy, also not losing as much weight as we'd like. We decided yesterday that we want to try to go 100% raw for thirty days and need to reach out for as much support as we can as we don't live in an area that has many raw food enthusiasts, so this challenge and this forum is perfect for us.
We're starting today and documenting our journey, so wish us luck! And good luck to all of you! You can do it!
Best,
Denise

Found this thread after finishing last night's popcorn, eesh...but as of right now, 11:55 am Pacific time, Nov. 1, 2009, I am starting the 30-day live food challenge.
I go back to work next Monday (Nov. 9), after a 3-month maternity leave...I delivered a stillborn child at 38 weeks on August 17; have no other children, but would like to. Have felt compelled to eat raw foods since our delivery -- minus a few slips, like popcorn and dark chocolate, here and there -- and have also started acupunture, to become as healthy a future mom as I can.
I'm scared to go back to work for a few reasons...but one of them is how hard it's been in the past for me to eat healthily there. If anyone has any tips on staying raw at work, I'd love to hear them.
Well, thank you so much for existing. This is going to be neat.

Hi all,
I am in as well. I have been transitioning to raw for over a year now with many days 100%. But the occasional slip-ups are starting to make me really sick and cranky. I have gotten to the point where I don't even desire SAD food or want to eat it, but feel peer pressure in social situations or I let myself get too hungry and haven't planned what raw food I will eat and succumb. But no more!
I actually wrote out a much longer post earlier this morning, but when I tried to send it, it didn't go through. So I thought "oh well, I just won't bother". But then I went to church (something I hadn't done for a very long time!) and I was feeling so good, that I logged on again. And I saw all of your supportive posts and hugs and thought this is the place I need to be!
I hope this one works and I can join you for a fabulous 30 days and longer!
Many hugs and good wishes!
PS-Today I had "The Muscle" smoothie from Matthew Kenney's book Everyday Raw for breakfast. Great way to use up my neglected pears! And now I am munching on some Dr. Cow's raw cheese and raw flax crackers. Yum!

Today:
--Qt of H2O with juice of a lemon
--Leftover taco meat w/salsa (Raw Hunter's recipe here on RFT)
--Smoothie: strawberries, banana, spinach, H20, brought to church
--Asian pear
--I just made and tasted Alissa's Mock Salmon Pate, YUM

What is this a day 1 of?
Alissa's 30 day 100% raw challenge.
~~~
I am not feeling well at all. Having a LOT of bowel movements though (and for those of you who have fasted with me, talking about poo is something I do) LOL
So lots coming out. I think it's the onion bread I've been eating so I won't be making any more of that for awhile.
I'm sipping on coconut water and hoping to feel better soon.
I am so excited to be here! I started 100% last week, and I was waiting for the 1st to get on here, but I can't really count today as Day 1. I let Hallowe'en mess me up BIG TIME. But it was a good contrast to show just how great I can feel with live foods, even after only a week. So I'll call today my pre-day 1, and I'll start counting with all of you tomorrow.
I made up a batch of Alissa's Mock Salmon Pate to have on hand for dinner, and I've got grapes and a yummy avocado salad all packed up for tomorrow!:p
I'm really looking forward to this 30-day challenge! I'm turning 30 this month, and so this is the best present I can give myself!
Hi everyone, I am here at the end of day 1. I am on a green smoothie fast.
B: bananas and kale
L: avocado, cilantro, tomato, green pepper, celery.
I have a horrible cold today and don't have much of an appetite. I just asked daughter #2 if she would make me a banana carob smoothie but she did not sound enthusiastic and I don't want to get out of bed to do it myself!
I did take a bite, my first ever, of a persimmon today. It immediately sucked all the moisture out of my mouth. I didn't finish it. I am assuming it was not ripe???
Just wanted to say goodnight and give you my day's eats! I will write every morning and night what I plan to eat and what I actually eat to hold myself accountable. First I wrote that I will "try" to do this, but I rewrote it since I knew I would already be giving myself an out if I didn't accomplishing writing in twice a day. So here it is:
B: Muscle Smoothie
L: Raw cheese and raw flax crackers
S: Half a raw cacao brownie
D: Super large green salad with avocado and sliced tomatoes
And as I write this I am enjoying a cashew, cacao, banana and agave shake. Probably too much cacao for me today. I hope it doesn't keep me awake! But I feel pretty tired now with the savings time. Had a lot of energy today though and cleaned half of the garage! Yeah raw food! :)
Well, first off, I wanted to say good job to everyone for getting through today! Yay! And Magi, sending you lots of hugs too, I am wanting to prepare my body to get pregnant for the first time(I am a little bit older than most new moms, but am starting to really feel ready now and want my body to be as healthy as possible).
Today was actually really great. I started to feel high by the end of the day.
Here's what I ate:
B-coconut water, one bunch of grapes
L-"Junk food salad" from the raw book, "Alive in 5". It was so easy to make and tastes like barbecued potato chips! and it even has raw hemp oil in it.
Went to a movie and had:
Kale Chips
Living Nuts brand nuts
Dinner- A big strawberry smoothie
I feel HAPPY!
Today is day 21 for me, and everything these past few days has been smooth sailing! I am starting to get overloaded at work and surprisingly, that is helping me stay raw by distracting me from even thinking about other food options! Went to a Halloween party on Sat. night and it was like I didn't even see the cooked food options -- I think there was a pizza there and candy, but could not tell you what else. :)
On my second pint of green smoothie this morning, planning to run at lunch. Have great salad fixin's (fennel, strawberry, arugula), two different types of sprouts, and a pumpkin sitting in the kitchen looking pretty.
Have a great day everyone!
Hey all, hoping I can join in the discussion and support here! I am on Day 8 of the 30 Day Challenge as laid out by Alissa in her book.
Found Saturday a bit challenging as my digestive system went on overdrive....how annoying....but I hope that was all a part of detox and thank nature for bananas :)
Had a fruit salad of naners and kiwi for breakfast and sipping on some water. Tomatoes, cucs and mixed greens for lunch. Don't know what's on the menu for tonight so I guess it'll be a surprise!
Busted the top off my food processor making banana ice-cream this weekend so I'll have to start looking for another. It still works, just have to hold the top on and that scares me quite a bit - those S blades are big!
All in all, feeling great. My motto for the week is "Do Not Indulge In Negativity" and I think that'll keep me going :)
Well, I am starting on Day 2, but I'm sure that's allowed. I enjoyed reading about how everyone's day went and what goodies you ate. Very well done dear rawbies.:)
I had 2 big mugs of warm raw cocoa this a.m. made with almond milk, agave and raw cacao. This was such a treat. I didn't crave the coffee. Maybe I will tomorrow, but that is just tough, because I have made up my mind and I have this deep-seated feeling about it this time. SAD and me have called it quits. Am thinking all the time of my daughter - that she will definitely see the benefits of raw the next time I see her.
I was so busy today - grocery shopping etc. So my next meal was not until 4 p.m. I had a delicious mango.
Supper was a salad with romaine, tomatoes, red onion, cuke, and avocado topped with a sprinkle of evo, acv, agave, sea salt, and coconut oil because I ran out of evo. The coconut oil was a very nice touch. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Now I'm off to brush my teeth - maybe I will oil-pull them.
See you all tomorrow hopefully.
mm mango!
Today I ate:
fruit salad - persimmon, banana and apple
left over kale salad with romaine lettuce, saurkraut, tomatoes and mushrooms
dates drizzled with almond butter and raw chocolate sauce
some sliced tomatoes as a snack - with kelp powder on top
Not sure what I'll have for supper - if anything. I'm not at all hungry (but then I already ate a lot today so that's not a biggie)
Hello all!
Glad to hear you're all doing so well! Lots of good ideas for yummy meals )
I resisted catered lunch at work today. Still having a hard time with the 3:00 to 6:00 time period. I think I need to have a pre-emptive afternoon snack so I won't be so attracted to cooked food before I can eat dinner.
B: grapes, water
L: spinach salad with mushrooms, cashews and avocado
D: Alissa's Mock Salmon Pate, with diced celery, lots of pepper and raisins
Does anyone else get a sore tongue when they start (or re-start raw)? It goes away, and becomes beautifully pink, but it's a little delicate at the moment ... not sure why...?:confused:
Have a great rest of Day 2!!
Hi All,
Quickly checking in. LOVE your meals, they keep giving me ideas. So far today I was super busy so my meal plan was simple, but so delish.
Breakfast- big slice of raw apple pie with raw vanilla ice cream(Made it last night from "Alive in 5". It's the best raw apple pie I've ever had and best raw ice cream and it was super easy to make).
Lunch- A 32 Oz "green lemonade"- Kale, celery juice with lemon and stevia. YUM.
Afternoon- Another slice of pie with ice cream.
Dinner-? Not sure yet. Not at all hungry.
This is inspiring to read everyone's meals and days. So sorry to so many with colds/detox. This is my official day 6, and doin fine.
--Qt H20 with lemon juiced in it
--tuscan cantaloupe
--big bowl of organic grapes
--avocado cubed with honey mustard dressing, would have been tastier with a vinaigrette I think
--frozen slice of date nut torte
--asian pear
--a crunchy green salad with mock salmon pate & honey mustard dressing
I actually ate all of these things separate, so I've been eating several times a day, not necessarily at meal times. I do sit down with my family for a dinner though.
As I made a cooked dinner for my family I tasted raw green beans and raw sweet potatoes as I prepped them for steaming, they are both tasty. The sweet potatoes were freshly dug today from the garden though. I planted broccoli plants today, fun!
Hi Everyone!
Just checking in now. Really had meant to write my menu this morning, but I was really stumped about what I would eat today. I really have to work on that! Anyway here it is:
B: Green Juice (enough for the whole family!)
After hike: Smoothie with hemp protein, strawberries, banana, spirulina, maca, bee pollen, cashew butter and honey (an adaptation from Raw Food, Real World)
L: Raw nut cheese and flax crackers
Snack with my sons after school: Cashew, banana, cacao and agave smoothie (it was 80 degrees here today, so we needed a cool treat)
D: LARGE green salad with Alissa's Caesar dressing and later some raw pecan pie squares and almond milk
Most of these items I had purchased at Whole Foods, but I really need to start making more meals at home myself. I spend so much time cooking, shopping and preparing meals for my family that I put my raw food last and usually it doesn't get made! Any suggestions? My sons are getting used to the idea of some raw food, but my husband is still very meat and potatoes oriented!
Anyway, it was so great to read all of your posts and to know I am not alone in this journey! :) Cheers!!
I am halfway through my first quart of apple juice. It tastes good to me today, I made it yesterday and added the juice of one lemon, so this morning it is cold and tart and going down much better than the lukewarm ones I had yesterday. So I am going to make tomorrow's juice today so it is nice and cold. I know fresh is better but the taste just does not suit.\
katch, I have never done a liver cleanse. I actually have all the things I need to do one too. At least I know I can ask you anything about it should I go ahead one of these days. rawrawks was doing one today also. Great to hear about your clothes that will soon fit! :D
It was good to read all your posts - sorry I am too sleepy to comment on them all. I am rooting for you all though.
I had a good day - very busy - too busy actually, but I just had to get Alissa's "Eggplant Parmesan" made. I did it. It's in the dehydrator now and will be there until sometime late tomorrow morning. It smells good. Everyone raves about it so I am looking forward to it.
Today I had some Jasmine tea/almond milk/honey. I didn't like it and poured it out.
Then I made a Green Smoothie with: 2 apples, 3 big stalks celery, bunch frozen kale, a few romaine leaves, 1 peeled lemon, 1 cup water.This was taken from Revvell's new Smoothies & Snoozies"book. I added a banana too as I needed a bit more sweetness.
Then for a mid-p.m. pick-me-up, I made some raw cocoa with almond milk, agave, and cacao. This was good.
Supper was another salad. I only ate raw food all day - that was my intention too and I didn't waver.
My eyes are almost closed - must be the coffee withdrawal.
Hi everyone. Sorry to hear some of you are not feeling too great. Hope you'll soon be better.
My headache should be pretty well over by the end of the day. I haven't noticed it yet today. (it can come and go).
I madeAlissa's Kim Chi this morning! Can't wait to try it tonight with my Eggplant Parmesan (also Alissa's). I just took it out of the dehydrator and tried some. Oh my is it ever good! But I wasn't sure if the eggplant was cooked enough so I put it back. It isn't crunchy, but is sort of salady crunchy? Not sure how it is supposed to turn out. The Marinara sauce on top looks burned - it is black, but tastes perfect! And the topping had cracked (you know - like a cake that is done?). Any thoughts on whether my dish is done? It was in the dh for 18 hours. I can't believe how good this is. I am going to try to go back to Renee's sticky today to see if she has any pics of this dish. I can't remember.
Also made a pot of soup for my husband.
Made a raw hot chocolate this morning, then added a banana and some ice cubes to it to make a cold smoothie. It also had almond milk in it, agave, coconut oil, vanilla, cacao.
Now I am off to make a Green Juice with beets, cuke, apples and I'm not sure what else. Maybe I will add this to some blended mangoes.
Have a happy day everyone.:D
I just put a huge amount of Brussel Sprouts into the dehydrator. I slice them in half, coat them with enough Udo's 3-6-9 to cover them, liberally sprinkle with Celtic sea salt and spices (I used a cajun spice mix). Dehydrate until they are dry and crunchy. You can eat these right from a bowl while watching a movie (way better than any popcorn ever was), they are great sprinkled on a bed of your favorite greens, especially if you miss the crunch of crouton's on your salad. I'm using them as crouton's for my salad tonight.
Yes I had some and can't say that I liked it (Kim Chi). But I ate a small bowlful anyway. I think it is a bit too gingery for my tastebuds. Of course, they will change as I train them. Right? Maybe if I add some agave tomorrow I will like it better. If it wouldn't bother my stomach, I'd consider adding chopped up apple or some oranges. It "needs" something. Your idea for brussel sprouts sounds just great, Aleesha. Thanks for sharing.:)
As for Alissa's Eggplant Parmesan, I finally took it out of the dehydrator. I was so hoping to hear from someone about how the eggplant texture should be when done. Anyway, I believe that it was done at 18 hours (it tasted great then) and that I should not have put it back into the dehydrator for another few hours. It dried out too much then and, get this, the eggplant remained the same. Maybe I should have checked it at 14 hours. It tasted good at 18 anyway. I have finished eating for the day and so I froze most of it.
Hope I make some things that I like sooner than later. (sigh) Now I'd like to make that mango pie Alissa has a photo of on her sticky, but I am too tired and don't have any ripe mangoes anyway. Guess I should have made a dessert today.
If I'm not fasting, I'll see you guys tomorrow. Have a good night.
I also had a big green - actually it was red! juice this afternoon and I'd forgotten all about it.
I had beets, apples, broccoli and carrots juiced which I added to the vitamix which had 2 mangoes in it. This tasted okay and didn't make me gassy at all and I thought it would as it really isn't a wise combination. Maybe for me it was fine.:D
I'm on day four and starting to get the raw food BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
I have to admit I have a little bit of an addiction to Living Intentions White Chocolate Chip Raw Nuts!!! I've eaten three bags in two days, but it tastes like TOFFEE!!
Today I had...
B-Big raw chocolates smoothie
s-Big green lemonade ( juice of greens, celery, and lemon juice with stevia)
L- One big giant pear
S-One whole bag of Living Intentions nuts. YUM.
D- I am so so craving Chinese food so I think I'm going to make a raw "Stir fry" by marinating chinese food veggies and making them with raw rice.
I get these weird cravings, then they pass, then I get this Raw food buzz. It's so cool and bizarre.
I LOVE having this place to share with you. Congrats to all who are moving through their detoxes!
I have had just a little bit of congestion but my green lemonades are helping so much for healing.
I think I'm losing weight too!
Hi everyone! I hope the detoxing is not too painful today for those who are suffering.
I am rounding the corner into my final week of the 30-day raw feast! Feeling great and really noticing a change. I stand taller, my skin feels amazing, and I have alot more energy.
B: Green smoothie (I never tell you guys what I put in them because they don't taste that good! But I enjoy them anyway! :)
L: Pumpkin soup with red onion-zucchini-fennel croutons. Yummers!
D: 2 almond milk-strawberry shakes (with pulp)
I am trying to wean myself off of agave syrup, I had been adding it to shakes and desserts thinking it was raw, but I am learning it not always is. And I began to realize I was eating more sweetened food than I had been before I went 100% raw!
Related, trying to wean myself off of raw cacao. I can definitely feel the effects of the caffeine and since it took me ages to get off coffee, I don't want to be reopening that addiction.
My advice for new rawbies (from one to another) is to be careful with some of these new raw foods/supplements. Sometimes they are a new form of junk food, and I think it is better to use this 30 day time period to retrain your mouth to eat fresh whole fruits and veggies (as much as possible!)
Bonne journée!
Didn't feel well this morning, pain, might've been cramps as it should be that time for me. I don't usually get cramps, but enough to know what they feel like...
So, I warmed my usual quart of H20/ lemon and drank it over a longer time because I wasn't hungry.
Later I made Alissa's lemon pudding. Good flavor, weird color.
Then I took a green smoothie to town while I ran errands, and I'll eat the rest of my marinated veggies for dinner over a salad. Then I'm out of "prepared" recipes.
It's going well for me. My period is 4 days late, which is crazy strange, I'm regular...But I'm not pregnant. So, I wish that would come so I'd know if my bloated feeling is from that, or bad food combining!
Had a good day.
Didn't eat or drink much at all as I wasn't that hungry and was pretty busy. To begin the day, I had a big mug of warm lemon juice, water and honey.
Then I had a raw cacao smoothie with cacao, vanilla, coconut oil, agave, banana, Fo-Ti and Maca. Haven't had them for months. Better use them up. Doubt if I will continue to buy supplements. I have to read up on b12 again in Victoria Boutenko's book to see if I can get by without them. (as long as I continue with lots of green juice and smoothies).
Supper was my Kim Chi from Alissa's book. I really don't like it. But I felt it would be such a waste if I threw out the whole thing. So I had a regular bowlful with added avocado, tomato, olives and agave and it was okay and I ate it all.
cenaw - love the reminder about Alissa's Lemon Pudding. I'd forgotten all about it. I know I would love it. I must go get some lemons tomorrow.
I really felt well all day. I have to admit though that I was kind of draggy before I had my raw cacao smoothie and so I am going to consider what Tguch said about the caffeine in it. Maybe I am still feeding that "monkey on my back". (sigh) Oh well, I know I am definitely doing better off coffee and that the cacao is NOT the same. Otherwise I'd be starving during the day and have cravings. That hasn't been the case.
Everyone was pretty busy today, I guess. Hope you all had a good day.
Sue.
I slept right through the night and got up before 7. It is so great to not have to get up to go to the bathroom in the night.:) (such an interruption of a nice sleep)
But it didn't take long before I noticed that I was very, very tired today. I was going to fast today, but I have a small project that's been hanging over my head for a couple of months - finishing painting the stenciled letters on my big kitchen jars in which I store SAD stuff to cook with for my husband and others.
So I decided to get some energy into me and made this most delicious healthy raw smoothie: banana, spinach, handful of cashews, cacao, water, ice, vanilla, agave, maca, Fo-Ti.
This is yummo! I can't taste anything in it but the creamy choco and the banana. Do try it.:D
Hi everyone, I am helping a friend get some painting done in her house. Her husband has been in the ICU for a month with swine flu. While he was on the respirator and sedated, she decided to get some projects done around the house, painting etc. Well, everything is torn up and half done and now he is AWAKE and wants her there 24/7. And a lot of people are coming from out of town for a benefit in a week. So I will be spending a lot of this next week painting and cleaning. Spent all yesterday afternoon and evening painting, and today I woke up with a HEADACHE. Not a horrible one but my body is saying it definitely does not like the smell of that paint!
It is also my 22nd anniversary. I will be making dh a SAD meal and sticking to my smoothies for the day. So far today I am just sipping on tea and waiting for the worst of the headache to ebb.
My lungs are detoxing! I have a rather heavy flush of blood flowing out of my right eye right around the lung/ thorax area and trickling down to my tear duct. Looks attractive! :p
B: 2 bananas, lukewarm almond milk-cacao pick me up (yes I was exhausted this morning and needed a boost, think it is due to the flushing)
Snack: mango!
Don't know what I will do for dinner yet... still two hours of meetings to go before the weekend! Wahoo!!
Hi 1Love,
Hubby and I have had emotional detox too. Crying for no reason, lol.
Yesterday I got pretty congested in my upper respiratory, nose, etc. and it felt like cleaning, detox. Although I have been eating a lot of those living intentions nuts, so I'll back off those in case that's causing anything.
I have had SO much energy at night that I haven't been sleeping as much as I'd like so I may try to go to bed early tonight.
I haven't been hungry, like, at all.
Yesterday I had:
big water with lemon and stevia
big strawberry smoothie
another big bag of living intentions white chocolate nuts
a chocolate smoothie
a big 32 oz glass of green lemonade (juice kale, celery, lemon) add stevia, very good.
Nice work day cleaning up for a wood cutting party tomorrow. There will be chain saws and splitters and men wanting a hearty SAD breakfast at 8am . My husband asked me if I was brave enough to serve them all green smoothies instead of pancakes and sausage. No, I'm not. But I know whatever I'm having some one will want a taste. A friend over tonight wanted to taste my green smoothie, so there!
Had fruit all day except for lunch I had celery & almond butter. Fruity spinach smoothie for dinner.
Good day. I pre-cooked alot of SAD stuff for tomorrow and didn't feel like tasting anything. But, I may have my kids make the sausage in the AM. I'm not made of steel.
Morning all! Sitting here choking down a green smoothie. I haven't been liking them so much lately and consequently haven't been getting enough greens so it's my challenge for the day. Spinich, banana, kiwi, and some "chocolate sunflowerseed mikl". It's alright - just my mood I think. Gonna dig up the 70 smoothies thread and see what else I can make today.
Can't believe this is 14 days! Woo Hoo. I think I am going into some more detox - really tired and stuffy again. Had a dream about being really sick with detox and riding on a train where everyone thought I had the flu.... :o Sometimes I share too much! yaa, i made one day. i just ate some banana and I'm taking some grapefruit and some vegetable matter with me. It's easy to get fresh produce where I'm going. I couldn't have done it yesterday without this forum. I need other people who are interested in this diet. If I hadn't been able to type things in yesterday, I'd have just said the heck with it at some point I'm sure. I won't be able to get on a computer 'till late tonight so I pray my day goes well. It should, I'm pretty motivated. And, of course, I feel nice and fresh today. I came home last night pretty twisted because of the change in diet, but I just went straight to bed. As the day wears on, I know my mind gets pretty angry about the whole thing. I have to be able to let that last for as long as it lasts. It wouldn't be more than a couple of months and maybe a lot less.:o
Eeek! I have done very well (all raw) and no cravings since Monday, the 2nd. but at this moment I am craving something hot like cacao or some kind of tea. And I have no almond milk made up - no soaked nuts.:( I have had a very busy day and am tired. Any suggestions?
Here is what I've had today:
A large smoothie with romaine (lots) 2 bananas, cacao, vanilla, coconut oil, water and ice and agave and some stevia. This was good.
Late lunch was more guacamole with carrots, celery, cukes, red pepper for dippers.
And as a side, I added a small handful of cashews, brazil nuts and walnuts (none of which were soaked). I will have to get used to how many nuts should be soaking on a daily basis so that none are wasted. I don't see how I would waste them though if I am totally raw. But I know that I could get afraid of nuts (thinking they are making me fat - which I know I shouldn't). And as someone here said - it was Alissa - how crazy is that when we have been eating pure junk for years and years and really never expressed too much fear as we were downing the stuff - only after when we suffered the consequences, and they were never enough to stop us?! Only raw can stop me. So I will be off to make a warm herb tea I guess. Sorry I haven't had any time today or last night to read anyone's posts. Hope your weekend is going well though.
xoxo
Both my smoothies were rather blech today, so right now I am wishing for something that TASTES GOOD. I will have to see what I can find.
B: banana, spinach, young coconut meat, and water kefir. The kefir was the bad part. It really didn't ferment much so was way too sweet.
L: avocado, tomato, zucchini, garlic, celery, basil. I used too much basil, and the avocado wasn't ripe. So it wasn't as tasty as usual.
The wind is BITTERLY cold here today, so I may try to warm up some soup in the crockpot.
Day 13 of green smoothie fast is almost done.
I am having a hard time ... little slipups everywhere. That was why I wanted to do 100% in the first place ... draw a line in the sand, no slippery slope to slide down.
And then I see that I haven't logged onto the forums since Tuesday....am I surprised? I need to remind myself to use this as my lifesaving tool. I have no doubt that raw is the way for me. The effects have been amazing so far and it hasn't even been very long. I just need to beat these cravings. I can FEEL myself lose control when I have some cooked food. It really is just like a drug! I need to come HERE when I feel that way and read and distract myself and re-focus.
B: Green juice (cucumber, celery, apple) - then my skin smelled like celery later in the morning, which was kind of cool :o
L: Romaine, guacamole and fresh pico - SO YUM!!!
D: Haven't decided yet, but I may make another juice and try to recover from my post-lunch cooked food foray :confused:
I had a banana and a lot of water. I'm nursing, and my supply is dropping. I don't know if that's because of me drinking less water since I went raw, or because of pumping issues or what, but I'm trying to build up my supply!
B: green smoothie - spinach, 3 kiwis, apple, green powder
Banana
L: roquette-tomato-avocado-walnut-raisin salad
Snack: almond shake with banana - Oh and I think it was Islegirl who asked but I tend to mostly make almond milk out of nonsoaked almonds and it works fine for me...
yaa, I made two days. Yesterday was tough of course. Why start this on a weekend is my usual expression to myself. I could have binged on free pizza and coffee but I didn't do it. By keeping this forum in mind, it is helping me to stay raw. Just produce so far, yesterday I ate from the fruit trays that were available and had an avocado and banana when I got home. I was not as twisted mentally when I got home, so I watched a little tv. Funny how tv isn't that interesting to me when I'm raw. I'd rather be out doing things. Alissa talks a lot about this in her 7/30/09 interview, an absolutely classic interview I would have to say. I have a lot of respect for her knowledge and enthusiasum. I feel best on strict produce. Had I bought some raw nuts last night, I would have just gobbled them up in binge fashion. I would not really be needing the nutrition. I had an apple in my pocket which I ate at some point and skipped the nuts. And there was no rush to eat the apple of course.
As Alissa says, I am one of "the ones who fall off the raw wagon constantly," so I'm being aware and I'm gentler with myself than I have been in the past. Alissa says she took about 7 years to fully commit to raw and I've been at it seriously, daily since 1995 about and I had my first inkling of how I should eat raw in 1991. It comes down to how a person feels, and I will only be happy with myself if I'm a strict fruit and vegetable man, of the peel if necessary and just pick it up and eat it variety.
I read the guidelines and other discussions on here about the politics and I am mindful of them with everything that I say. I appreciate the support here and the fact that someone cared enough to make a website like this and set up the 30 day challenge and take an interest in other aspiring raw foodists. I know one thing for certain, I cannot do this on my own. I need to reminisce on what I say and what I read here as I go through my day to give me the motivation to keep going raw. Comments welcome.:):eek:
Hi, Rich, I am enjoying your thoughtful posts. You are being stricter than I would ever want to be, but it is your journey and your choice. BUT if you continue to struggle, you might want to try a less stricter version of raw for awhile and ease into the stricter. Some people say over time they find a simpler version of raw much easier to follow.
As for me, I seem to be having a detox episode. Headache yesterday and today and not the time of month to have them, so what else can it be. Yay. LOL but I am glad to be doing it, just wish I wasn't at work and so busy. I am also on day 14 of my green smoothie fast. Oddly enough, this time around I GAINED 5 pounds a few days into the fast and have not let go of it yet. I know it is not fat, how could it be, so my body is up to something.
Tomorrow when I am at home, I am really going to push the fluids and see if that helps. I don't have time at work to be running to the bathroom all the time. :rolleyes:
I don't believe the Bolthouse products are raw though. Making green smoothies is sooooooo easy, especially if you like bananas!
1-2 frozen bananas
big handful baby spinach leaves (maybe 3 cups???? 4??????)
about 2 cups of water
cinnamon, just a dash
Blend it all up and drink! I like my smoothies on the runnier side, if you like them thicker, just use less water.
there you go, you just made your first green smoothie.
even if they are raw (which i don't think they are)... there isn't much nutrition left after 36 hours after a smoothie is prepared... and there's no way you are getting it into your body in less than 36 hours. ;)
i use the same recipe except no cinnamon and i add a cup of frozen blueberries!
Weekends are busy for me. I guess weekdays are too. I'm keeping my food simple and so far I like it that way. My first week off coffee leaves me a bit tired so I decided not to do too much "uncooking" right off the bat. Actually I have not been as tired as usual. Anyway I'm not thinking about food nearly as much as I usually do. I am so thankful for this. As long as I ate sad junk food, I bet it would be safe to say I had an eating disorder. Well, I didn't this week. Sorry guys - I should have put this in my blog instead. As you know I am pretty wordy.
Hi Rich. Sounds like you're doing well. I've noticed the same thing about t.v. It doesn't have the same appeal. That is very good. There are so many interesting things to do with our days. I am amazed when anyone says to me that they are bored. I don't think I've been bored a day in my life.
Anyway Katch, I am sorry to hear you aren't feeling as well as you could be. Maybe tomorrow will be better with all your fluids? Sure hope so.
Breakfast: Green Smoothie with spinach, banana, cacao, vanilla, stevia, water, ice and coconut oil. I can't remember if anything else slipped in there. Oh yes! Soaked brown, unhulled sesame seeds! (I knew I wanted it to be even healthier today.) They are supposed to be loaded with calcium in case anyone wants to know.
Lunch: Salad: Romaine, iceberg, onion, tomato, celery, cuke, olives, soaked pumpkin seeds and soaked sunflower seeds and for a dressing I simply used some of my guacamole with some added agave and mixed this all up in the salad. It wasn't too bad.
Supper: Alissa's Applesauce.Page 294. To it I added some raisins, coconut and walnuts. I may try this in the vitamix next time to get it smooth. It was good though.
So I am finished eating for the day. Have already brushed my teeth. That helps me not think about putting anything else in my mouth. I don't like having to floss all over again!
Aleesha, I am sorry that you've lost your Mum. I can't imagine what it would feel like. My Mum is 83. I am planning a trip to see her within the next month or two.
Have a good night everyone.
I know the Bolthouse smoothies are not raw, but its as close as I can get for right now. I actually really enjoyed it and if I could make a fresh one with the same taste, I'd love to do that.
cinnamon, just a dash
Oh no no - not just a dash, I use a teaspoon but I also use apples and oranges not bananas so maybe the cinnamon tastes better in my mixture!!
Well, I have been experimenting with taking every Saturday off from raw, thereby scheduling the 'cheat' makes it psychologically easier to stay raw the 6 other days of the week. I know Alyssa frowns on this, but it REALLY helped me to stay 100% raw from Sunday through Friday night last week, just telling myself, "You can eat cooked food on Saturday". It helped my dh as well. But, I don't feel very good today, so eventually, I think I'll eat less and less cooked on Saturdays. I did manage to get my 32 oz green juice in yesterday so that was stellar. AND i was SOOOO looking forward to going back on raw today, I was actually CRAVING raw while I was on my planned cheat day! So funny how we work psychologically.
Anyway, today was a very detoxy day for me, so I ate hardly anything.
B- Big 32 oz water with lemon
S- bananas, mango, pear, salad yumbo!
L-Big 32 oz Green Juice
S-Another big 32 oz Green Juice, handful of raw living intentions nuts
D-Three oranges, one chia moon drop(WOW! SO YUM)
I am going to go to be early....
Thinking about you, Aleesha, sending you lots of hugs.
When I say "It comes down to how a person feels about it," I mean that very literally. Eating the slightly heated anything gives me the same anxiety, depression, just "awful, bad feelings" as eating the raunchiest cooked faire. I remember last time when I was raw for a few months or so, I would have dried fruit or something and it wouldn't throw me off the diet because I was so happily established on it. So I'm better off being strict at first and then if I eat something less simple, it won't have me break the diet. But for now, if I need them, raw nuts will get me through the headaches and angry withdrawal feelings.
Hi, Rich, I am enjoying your thoughtful posts. You are being stricter than I would ever want to be, but it is your journey and your choice. BUT if you continue to struggle, you might want to try a less stricter version of raw for awhile and ease into the stricter. Some people say over time they find a simpler version of raw much easier to follow.
As for me, I seem to be having a detox episode. Headache yesterday and today and not the time of month to have them, so what else can it be.
That's why I didn't come home early yesterday, and I probably won't any day, because it's more fun to be out there doing something. If I had come home early yesterday, I know I would have been tempted to eat cooked with the mind meld of the TV and my paltry two days raw.
Hi Rich. Sounds like you're doing well. I've noticed the same thing about t.v. It doesn't have the same appeal. That is very good. There are so many interesting things to do with our days. I am amazed when anyone says to me that they are bored. I don't think I've been bored a day in my life.
I wouldn't change one day for myself in terms of my experiences. And I know since I started the raw adventure and found a religious belief system I like, both back in the early nineties, I haven't really had a dull moment in my life.
Day four, yaa. I have some vegetables and some grapefruit for now. I feel good after just a few days, very clear. This diet is like that for me, night and day. That's probably why I've had a hard time staying on it. I feel such a long-stretching calm and peace in my life, I'm like, "I can pick this up any time I want;" I'll just play with cooked food for now. The "I can quit anytime I want, I just don't want to" philosophy. Does anyone else out there feel the same incredible mental shift on just one day raw, going backward and forward from cooked to raw? I know Alissa talks about this some and I'm sure others experience the diet the same way.
Morning all!
Kinda stuck on bananas for breakfast but whatever works I guess. I know I need to be adding smoothies back into my life so that's my goal for the week.. Gotta stop and get smoothie fodder this afternoon.
Planned a HUGE salad for lunch with Alissa's Creamy Italian dressing. Can't wait for lunch :)
Blueberry pie is on the menu for dinner - why not?? **GRIN**
Rich - sorry I can't really add anything for you. I know I feel better but not really sure how and right now I just don't want cooked food at all. No matter how good my mama's cooking is.....just not appealing. Well - except for popcorn. I really miss that one!! I know I had those feelings when I quit smoking - exactly what you are describing - I think it's a normal addiction thing.....
Feelin good. I am eating a big salad w/ several lettus, tomato, cucs, olive, pimpkin seeds. Yes, I have also struggled in the last 2 months with eating some cooked food. The ironic thing is I went on vacation and ate raw came home and ate a few things that were cooked and have been struggling and I decided for November to get back on track and I'm glad I did. I am now off coffee and have 1 cup of tea in the am.....I'm happy about getting off coffee.
Dinner am having zucinni, onions, and mushrooms....maybe asparagus too.
Hi Everyone,
I'm joining in on this November journey. I had a very silly "last supper" last night. Not sure what came over me but I made a huge Italian dinner and desert. I'm not even much of a dinner eater. Hmm...anyhow I got it out of my system (not literally, I think it will be there for a while) but emotionally yes...I'm done with that sort of dinner.
Up at 4:50 for a morning spin class - I could feel the heavy dinner for sure.
Banana around 8:00 - kids off and running
10:00 - my perfect breakfast time - sprouted buckwheat, nutmeg, sliced banana and apple, and a few walnut sprinkles. With a touch of almond or soy milk this is a dream. I haven’t given up my coffee quite yet but I know that will naturally seem yucky. Already it tastes a bit yuck...1/2 a cup.
Goals today! - let this hearty breakfast do its work and not eat until truly hungry..Maybe a nice Green smoothie around 3:00ish and then no more for the day.
I'm thinking it is better to find new healthy habits to replace the destructive ones with rather than just leaving a void. My first, replace eating dinner with enjoying the extra light energy to play a game with my kids and spend time with my hubby;)
On another note, I just returned from my kid's school for an assembly. I saw all the wonderful teachers guiding our great kids and I felt a lot of love and appreciation for them. So for all you teachers out there, a big hug to you. Thank you for all you do for our kids. The gifts you give streches way beyond the class walls!
Yes! Rich!
I am exactly the same way. I feel a shift in just one meal. It is amazing and so I too feel like it is so easy to go back and forth, it is always there. That is why for me, I am trying to establish habits that replace old habits. I'm training for a Feb long ride and 1/2 marathon in June. For my joint health I need to eat a high raw, high green diet. For me it is the greens. Good luck!
I have a lot to get accomplished today and decided yesterday that I'd do without food today and I am even "dry-fasting" which means no water. I will see how I feel at the end of the day. I have learned quite a bit about it and am not afraid to do it.
I walked this morning in the sunshine and have already had plenty of energy so far today. It is now mid-p.m.
Doing a lot of planning for my husband's meals this week while I fast. The one craving I have had today is for a cup of "you know what" - that stuff I haven't had since a week ago yesterday!:eek: I really am trying not to dwell on it though.
Hope the day goes well for everyone else here.
Sue.
Had a crazy weekend, so didn't post much, but stayed raw except for a few cooked chips at a Mexican restaurant. It was my first restaurant experience raw, and it went well. I ordered a dinner sized salad without meat, beans, and cheese, explaining I'd enjoy any raw veggies on the salad. They did well, and I had a fabulous salad. They had a slaw type salsa (I don't know what its called) out with the chips that was fabulous, and the waitress asked me if I wanted to use some for a raw salad dressing! What a great idea! So I asked for the recipe and got this list:
cabbage
tomatoes
carrots
jalapeno (I think they were pickled)
vinegar
lemon juice
salt
I'm going to try this. Everything was just diced small, and it was to be eaten with chips.
Other than that, I've mostly eaten fruit in the am, smoothie later, avocado something in the afternoon, and a salad with pate for dinner. As I look at my notes, it seems that 4 or 5 small meals/snacks seems to be how I'm eating, and it's working. I have snicker-bites in the freezer as well as Alissa's date nut torte, so I can get a candy fix if I want one.
Going well. A little tempted as I cook SAD for family. I almost ate some hot baked potato last night, but luckily I was full.
Gos bless everyone's efforts.
Hi All,
So good to hear/read all of your postings. Keep up the great work on eating in this self loving way!
Rich,
I have totally played that psychological game with myself for a long time. Eating raw makes me feel total and utter bliss, calm, grounded, happy, eliminates my anxiety and all depression symptoms. Then I think to myself "I know I can get this back any time, so I'll have cooked food until I'm ready to heal." It's a silly thing.
Another thing I deal with is perfectionism and guilt. If I don't eat 100% raw, it means I "failed" and I judge myself for it and then go back to cooked. This is why I put in my planned "non raw" day for Saturdays. It's doing several things to help me psychologically. 1. It makes it easier to stay raw for six days. I just make a "running list" of all the things I'm craving knowing I can have them on Saturdays. 2. It helps me to be reminded of how cruddy I feel when I eat cooked. Like systematic desensitization. I'm not having a pleasant time at all on my cooked food Saturdays because my body doesn't like it even though my mouth does. 3. It helps me not try to be perfect and then beat myself up later. If I plan a "failure" day, then it isn't a failure. I know it sounds weird, but I've been trying to go raw for so long and this is finally the way I've found to stay on raw long term, at least for now. I am hoping that these Saturdays become less and less exciting for me to eat cooked. and 4. Well, I am a total foodie, love gourmet, etc. and it helps socially so I don't feel so isolated here in the town I'm in where hardly anyone is raw and there's no raw restaurants.
Anyway, here's what I had today...had absolutely NO cooked food cravings.
B -An orange and a cup of tea.
S - two raw chia moon drop cookies. WOW. So good, would love them if they weren't raw.
L-orange juice
D-A big slice of raw apple pie with raw ice cream.
Later- a 32 Ounce green juice with kale, celery, and lemon.
