I am suffering what I am sure is a bladder infection. I've had them before and ran straight to the doctor for antibiotics. Now I am unemployed because my company closed and I have no health insurance. Also since I have changed my diet I have not taken any prescription drugs in about 5 years and I don't want to now either if I don't have to. Are there any natural cures that anyone here can recommend? Right now I am taking AZO for the pain, burning and frequent urination. I am also drinking plenty of cranberry juice and water. Is there anything that can get rid of the infection or do I need to go to the doctor??

I am baffled by this who thing because when I have gotten these infections in the past it was because of my diet and drinking too much pop and not enough water, etc. Now I watch what I am eating and I don't drink any pop at all so I don't know where this is coming from. Could it be detox??

Thanks.

I had it two years ago really bad for the first time in my life. It came when I was overstressed and it was extremely painful. What I did was this: a water fast for 3 days and I also stayed in bed for 2 days. I did hardly drink anything at all,-it was so good to have a rest. I hope you'll get well very soon. Take a good care and have a restful day.

I have battled these my whole adult life, the natural thing that has worked the BEST for me is ... alternate on the hour between a cupful of hot water with 1/2 of a lemon squeezed into it and 8 oz. of carrot/beet/cucumber juice - this has routinely worked the best for me. Do this for at least 3 days even if you feel better. This remedy also works for kidney stones. My hubby had them and was able to pass them as silt after doing this for 2 days.

Starfire recommends drinking cornsilk tea (tea made from the silk on fresh corn).

Hope you feel better quick!

Blessings,
Heather

Uva Ursi capsules-usually works in one day if you catch the infection immediately. Otherwise it may take an extra day or so. Beats every other supplement and food out there. They're very inexpensive and can be found at any health store.

I hope this is in keeping with this community guidelines...

I had an infection in my leg which was recurring. My alternative doctor told me that the next time that happens to use the spray colloidal silver, even if the expiration date is old. My DH had bought a bottle several years ago, and one Saturday morning, all alone with my 6yo daughter, this infection cropped up again. I remembered what he said, used that old spray as per instructions and the infection was gone within the week. I was amazed. In fact, what took the antibiotic a week to do, this stuff did in 30 minutes, and that was to soften the swelling. I'm not kidding.

I used the cs spray the other night when I had a fever. I'm not sure if that was the reason, but the fever was gone by morning w/o medication of any kind.

High dose Probiotics & cranberry juice really help - not to mention more water intake.

Cranberry capsules from the health food section of my grocery. They work every time. I can't drink enough cranberry juice to do the trick, but I swear by the caps. I never travel without them, as I'm very prone to uti's. Drink lots of water.

Thank you all so much for your help today. So far today I have been drinking the cranberry juice, water with baking soda, water and taking AZO. At about 2:30 this afternoon I was wiped out from all of the running to the bathroom and I actually fell asleep. Turned out that was a good thing because I really needed the rest. Woke up at 4:30 and had to go to the bathroom again. Another good sign because I was going every 10 to 15 minutes, or less before and I had to go urgently. So I woke up and went and I didn't have to go again until 6:30. I feel a lot better so for today I will keep doing what I have been doing until I can get to the health food store tomorrow so I can try one or several of the remedies that you guys have been so kind to recommend. I feel better already. I was really scared because I have had these recurring infections over the years - but that last one I had was years ago and I know was I was eating a really bad diet at that time. So go figure. Oh yeah, I will start taking the cranberry supplements daily too!;)

lots of parsley- high in chlorophyll and an antibacterial (UTI are usually an infection of E. coli) will help neutralize pH. Maybe some apple cider vinegar too. Mix it into water and will help w pH. I agree with all previous post, probiotics, collodial silver, and water!!!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but this cornsilk thing intrigued me so I googled a little and found this

http://www.livingawareness.com/pdf/HealthArticles/Corn.pdf

I just happened to have some superfresh corn so I kept the silk and made some suntea, plus some hot tea using the recipe on the link. I am going to add some to my salad tonight and maybe try some in a smoothie. All these years of throwing it in the garbage I never even thought it was good for you!!
I'll pick some more up next weekend and try drying it in the dehydrator.

After hearing David Wolfe recommend baking soda for UTI's, I tried it and it absolutely DOES work!

Drink 1 tsp baking soda in 8oz of water every hour. Within a couple of hours all your symptoms will be gone! David explained in detail how it works. Something about the pain we feel when urinating are these crystallized particles that look like barnacles under the microscope that are living the bladder walls. The baking soda goes and and sweeps clean the lining and exits the particles.

Thanks David!!

Wow gotta try that next time!

What worked for me was Uva Ursi and drank tons of water. Gone in a couple of days I think.

I have been reading about the UTI infections a lot today because I was so sure that since I am eating a healthy diet that I shouldn't be getting them - used to get them relatively regularly - had a really bad diet. So - could the E. Coli infection be related to eating a lot of raw fruits and vegetables and maybe not washing them well enough? I don't want this to happen again. I got a really bad UTI infection years ago and it ended up turning into a kidney infection...

Pretty much the same thing that the cranberry capsules do, prevent the bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall.

Thank you all so much. I am feeling much, much better today. I am also so happy that I was able to use natural remedies for this infection. In the past I have used antibiotics and cranberry juice. I know that the antibiotics made me feel better immediately but I don't like taking meds, never have and had it not been for this site I would have been begging for antibiotics.

So today I bought the cranberry tablets, I continued with the AZO and water with baking soda. Oh yeah - I got the garlic tablets too.:)

Y'all are great!!

I used baking soda for two days, Sunday and Monday, and today I added it back in with the other things I am using. Thank you!

I have to see how I feel tomorrow. I am still going to the bathroom a lot but it's because I am drinking so much water and cranberry juice - and it's no longer painful when I go. Other than that I think the infection is almost gone. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. I'm a little tired so I'm trying to get some rest.

Thanks.

If e-coli is the cause (and you wouldn't know this unless you saw the Dr., but perhaps you know from past experience) then D-Mannose will prevent the e-coli from sticking. You can get it at the health food store. It's a powder.

I'm new to raw foods - Just started on Monday, at about 75% raw so far. Yesterday I started to get UTI symptoms. I've had plenty of them in the past, but haven't had any for at least two years. I found this thread last night so I stopped at the store this morning and got some cranberry caplets; now I'm at work all day and wondering how often I can take these caplets, since I don't have any other remedies with me?

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to be here!

I don't know which kind you bought but the ones I bought say to take 2 capgels once a day. They are 1,040 mg per 2 capgels.

I feel 1,000% better today people!!:D Yesterday I continued with the cranberry juice, cranberry capsules, garlic, water and baking soda (yuck by the way).....I feel wonderful today. I was a little concerned for a while yesterday because I had a low grade backache (which I know can be a symptom of a kidney infection - had one of those before too). Anyway I reminded myself that I had been doing some cleaning, bending and stooping while cleaning, moving bed around while changing linen, etc., etc. So I got some rest and today no pain whatsoever! I know that traditional antibiotics would have given me instant relief but I am so pleased that I did not have to resort to antibiotics! I don't even like to take aspirin!

I read on this thread last week about the baking soda remedy and even responded and as luck would have it, I came down with the infection.

The baking soda remedy really works!!!!! I started feeling slight relief after the 2nd dose and in a few hours it was gone. Only had Arm and Hammer on hand initially which worked but if you can find non aluminun in the bulk section of HFS it is really cheap for a few ounces. I think I paid about .25 for a small bag.

Thanks whomever wrote this in!!!!!

I have a new respect for baking soda that's for sure!:) I think I was able to pinpoint the cause of my bladder infection. I was so baffled at first because every time I have had this infection before I was able to trace it back to drinking lots and lots of pop, juice, coffee and not enough water. Everytime. But this time I was stumped because I don't drink those things anymore, I eat a healthy diet and I drink lots and lots of water. BUT in place of those things I was drinking tea with caffeine. I wasn't drinking it every day and when I did drink it I may have had 8 to 10 ozs. But I had been drinking it consistently over the past few months. I did some research and found that it may have been the caffeine from the tea that probably led to the infection. I usually drink decaffeinated tea but because I am out of work I bought the regular tea because it was cheaper.:(:( Can't do that anymore!

I have been having uti like symptoms for years and recently for months at a time. I can't drink enough water and cranberry juice. I finally went to a urologist who did testing and she told me I had no infections. Good to know. She then told me that I probably have food allergies and cranberry juice was one of the worst things for it since it is highly acidic.

Through some elimination processes I realized that chocolate and sugar is really bothering me.

She recommended:

Cranberry pills
Vitamin C buffered
Probiotics
Vitamin D

This has worked to a degree but also, when I get symptoms I drink baking soda with water. It neutralizes the acids and works well.

Good luck

Wow that must have been difficult having those symptoms for months at a time. Makes sense that your doc would say food allergies and not UTI. In my experience an untreated UTI can turn into a serious kidney infection - so you would have just kept getting worse instead of it coming and going.

Try homeopathics! You can do it in conjunction with the cranberry juice (as pure as possible, less sugar the better!), water and baking soda. The remedy, especially when self-diagnosed should be as specific to your symptoms as possible:

Aconitum apellus: This remedy is often useful when a person feels anxious both before and during urination, with hot, scanty urine, and a burning or spasmodic feeling in the outlet of the bladder. It can also be helpful if retention of urine occurs after a person has been very cold and chilled, or after a shaking experience.

Apis mellifica: This remedy is indicated when the person frequently needs to urinate, but only small quantities are passed. Stinging and burning sensations are felt (especially with the last few drops) and the person may also experience soreness in the abdomen. Heat and touch make the symptoms worse, and cold applications, cool bathing, and open air bring relief. A lack of thirst is another indication that Apis may be needed.

Belladonna: This remedy may be beneficial if urging to urinate is frequent and intense, and the bladder feels very sensitive. A cramping or writhing sensation may be felt in the bladder area. Small amounts of highly-colored urine pass. (This remedy is sometimes helpful if a person passes small amounts of blood and no serious cause can be found on medical examination.)

Berberis vulgaris: Cystitis with twinges of cutting pain, or a burning feeling that extends to the urethra and its opening, may indicate a need for this remedy. The passage may also burn at times when no attempt at urination is being made. After emptying the bladder, the person feels as if some urine still remains inside. Urging and discomfort are often worse from walking.

Cantharis: Strong urging to urinate—with cutting pains that are felt before the urine passes, as well as during and after—may indicate a need for this remedy. Only several drops pass at a time, with a scalding sensation. The person may feel as if the bladder has not been emptied, still feeling a constant urge to urinate.

Borax: This remedy can be helpful for cystitis with smarting pain in the urinary opening and aching in the bladder, with a feeling that the urine is retained. Children may cry or shriek, afraid to urinate because they know the pain is coming. Borax is often indicated for people who are sensitive to noise and inclined toward motion sickness.

Chimaphila umbellata: If a person has a troublesome urge to urinate but has to strain (or even stand up and lean forward) to make it pass, this remedy may be useful. A scalding sensation may be felt while the urine flows, with a feeling of straining afterward.

Clematis: This remedy may be indicated if a person has to urinate frequently with only a small amount being passed. A feeling of constriction is felt in the urinary passage, and the flow may be interrupted, or there may be dribbling afterward. A tingling sensation may occur, lasting long after urination is finished.

Equisetum: If cystitis is accompanied by dull but distressing pain and a feeling of fullness in the bladder, even after urinating, this remedy may be helpful. Urging and discomfort are more intense when the bladder has recently been emptied, improving over time as the bladder become more full.

Lycopodium: This remedy may be helpful if a person has to urinate frequently during the night and passes large amounts of urine. Or the person may feel a painful urge, but has to strain to make the urine flow. Pain may be felt in the back before the urine passes. (If fever is present, the urine has a reddish color, or discomfort is felt in the kidney region, the person should see a doctor.)

Nux vomica: Irritable bladder with a constant need to urinate, passing only small amounts, suggests a need for this remedy. Burning or cramping pain may be felt in the bladder area, with an itching sensation in the urethra while the urine passes. The person may feel very irritable, impatient, and chilly. Symptoms may be relieved by hot baths or other forms of warmth.

Sarsaparilla: This remedy is often useful in cystitis and often helps when symptoms are unclear, or if other remedies have not been effective. Frequent urging is felt, with burning pain at the end of urination. Urine passes when the person is standing up, but only dribbling occurs while sitting. Flakes or sediment are sometimes seen in the urine. (Sarsaparilla is sometimes helpful when stones are forming or the kidneys are involved; however, these conditions need a doctor’s care.)

Sepia: This remedy may be helpful if a person has to urinate frequently, with sudden urging, a sense that urine will leak if urination is delayed, and small amounts of involuntary urine loss. The person may experience a bearing-down feeling in the bladder region, or pressure above the pubic bone. A person who needs this remedy often feels worn-out and irritable, with cold extremities, and a lax or sagging feeling in the pelvic area.

Staphysagria: This remedy is often indicated for cystitis that develops in a woman after sexual intercourse, especially if sexual activity is new to her, or if cystitis occurs after every occasion of having sex. Pressure may be felt in the bladder after urinating, as if it is still not empty. A sensation that a drop of urine is rolling through the urethra, or a constant burning feeling, are other indications. Staphysagria is also useful for cystitis that develops after illnesses with extended bed rest, or after the use of catheters.
