These aren't on the EWG list ranking pesticide load. When I google for fig's pesticide load I just keep bringing up stuff like "see Fig.8 pesticide in..."
Does anybody know whether it's okay to eat the skins (washed) or whether I should peel them. If the loads not up there with those on the dirty dozen I'd rather get some of the nutrients than throw them out. Have a feeling they might be high in epsticides but anyway...

this may not be helpful, but my friend has a tree in her yard without putting any pesticides on it, and it produces plentifully without much bug-damage.

I have a HUGE tree in may yard. I've picked 36 in the past 2 days..nothing put on mine but I still don't eat the skin. If you see some in people's yard, ask if you can buy some from them. Most will give them to you. They all of a sudden ripen & you can't keep up with them. I'm freezing a lot for smoothies.

You're so lucky! Figs are one of my favourite fruits!

i saw an espisode of man vs wild and he ate some figs in australia with the skins on. those were obviously organic.

i say follow your intuition if you want to eat the skins or not.

they need to be rinsed even if in your yard. The white milk is a latex based substance. It's more noticable in the am then dries on the fig. This can be an issue with latex allergic or sensitive people. I'm allergic to latex so I'm careful with this. I looked it up & there are a LOT of foods that it's in the leaves...banana, avacado, kiwi, mango, figs. I can't remember the other but I eat everything on the list. I'll just not do it in abundance.

Yeah, very lucky. I wish I could have things like figs and avocados in the garden, but it's just not possible here in Sweden. I am actually thinking about moving somewhere else so that I can grow those kind of foods.
But then again, I love Sweden and some food like strawberries and wild greens are simply the best here. So the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
