My mom wants to go on a juice fast for 30 days and eat only fruits.
She is severly overweight and has many health problems. I've slowly been trying to encourage her to eat better and exercise.
Today she brought up juice fasting on her own and eating only fruit.
Is this a good idea for someone that just came off the SAD? Will she detox too quickly?
If it's a good idea and she'd be fine, where should she start?!
I really want to encourage her in this area and for to even come to me is a huge encouragement to me! That means she is seeing results in what I'm doing and is serious about making a lifestyle change.
Any tips and recipes would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks!!
Pam

I think it's a great idea. I would make sure she starts cutting back though, dont try to eat a huge meal before you (she) begins. I would recommend freedomyou.com (http://www.freedomyou.com) as it has a lot of good testimonies and how to's. I am myself planning on going on a fast...I do know that you will have a harder detox the closer to SAD your diet is, but its usually the first 3 days that are the worst. Fasting heals so much.

could someone feel me in on this way of eating? Will it help with weight loss?

Are you asking about fasting? or raw - Fasting will allow you to lose weight, however be mindful that you will regain some when you refeed if it is on SAD mostly.
The first 10 pounds of so of fasting is mostly water, however, the longer you fast you lose weight - if you are cleansing your system as well, such as with enema's or colonics ( you can read up on those through various sources), to remove toxins from your system.
Losing weight on raw can happen - primarily because your diet will be fruit, vegetables, seeds and nuts, prepared various ways. There is much information here to assist you with that question.

Hi Vegmom,
Whoa, I haven't posted in awhile!! I hope all is well with everyone reading this!! =)
I must say that although fasting is an excellent idea, my opinion on the best way to begin a fast is to eat lots and lots of organic salads, fruits and veggies for 1-2 weeks (2 weeks is you want excellent results) before begining a fast. The point is to get your body ready for the fast. Jumping into a fast without proper preparation counters what your trying to achieve from doing a fast.
Fasting also puts a lot of stress on the liver from the detox aspect so this is really where I think herbs make their appearance. I try to always use Milk Thistle (preferably a good tincture) while fasting and afterwords, as this is an incredible herb for the liver.
As for fasting when nursing, to me, is not a safe or good idea at all. Actually eating a lot of veggies, fruits, salads and LOTS of nuts and seeds is very important when nursing. Look at the link below =

Anyhow these are just my own opinions (and from my own experience). Hope it helps you =)

I second what SW said. When someone "fasts" (technically, drinking fruit juice is not fasting), or even upgrades their food program, the system will be dumping toxins into the blood stream and will affect the breast milk. Adding more fruits and veggies will assist this process w/out the "extreme" (for some) detox symptoms. Enemas during the transition will be a major asset also.

Thank you Revvell for replying.
I guess I need to read up more on what a "fast" really is then! LOL
And if I wanna do it myself, gotta wait until baby is weaned!
Thanks!

hey pam!
here's a really good site on juice fasting. reading through this really helped me out psychologically while doing my ultimate cleanse. you have to be really mentally ready to abstain from eating for a prolonged time.
moreover, as was mentioned earlier you need to be physically ready. i would suggest your mom go "raw" a week or two before she fasts in order to eliminate as much toxins as she can. if she goes straight from a sad diet to a juice fast the body might release the toxins to quickly in to the system. not good.
