My husband and I have been tossing around the idea of going raw for over a year, and we've had several false starts on the path but always seemed to flake on it.
Then, five months ago, I gave birth to our first son. Two months ago, he was diagnosed with a dairy allergy and suddenly half the foods I'd always enjoyed were off the menu... heck, not half - MOST of. You'd be amazed at how many cooked, pre-prepared foods have some form of dairy sneaked into them!
So he and I have decided to try and start into raw again and eventually make it to a high-raw if not 100% raw diet. We've always wanted to be raw before we had children eating food, so this is the ideal time for us to start.
I'm a 26-year-old stay-at-home-mom who was previously a dog trainer (and, in fact, I have four dogs of my own). I love reading and writing and watching our son, Jacob Connor, grow into more of a person every day.
My husband and I practice attachment parenting - breastfeeding, babywearing, elimination communication, cosleeping... all the 'crunchy' stuff. It just seemed like living a healthier raw lifestyle made sense! Especially since he and I both have health concerns - asthma for him and Lupus for me.
My main raw concerns are how to maintain my milk supply for my exclusively breastfed infant while I'm making a transition into a more raw diet. My usual go-to thing to increase my milk supply is oatmeal and a lot of water. While I can still drink water, of course, I'm worrying about losing my bowl of oatmeal. If I see a dip in my supply, I will probably panic - I am SO against formula, it isn't even an option for Jacob in my mind.
Oh, well... here I am! I look forward to getting to know people and learning more about how to be a healthy, happy, breastfeeding mom (and how to introduce my son to raw once he starts eating in two or three months).
