View Full Version : *Rant* Here ends my raw journey...until later.

So here I am forced to interrupt again and end my raw journey for a few months at least until I get some stuff taken care of and can move back to my own place again.
Just had an argument with my parents about how I was making the kitchen look like a "laboratory" with my raw food things and that they didn't want any of that anymore.
So it seems I'll be forced back into SAD for now until I can afford to rent again.
Pissed off and in need of a good rant.

Just do what you can. Surely there are some things you can still eat raw and the rest, well get back at it while you can!! Good luck with it.

I agree with snoops.....definetly do what you can! Fruit, nuts & veggies are easy raw foods to have that don't look like a lab!

Is it poss to have just fruit and simple salads. Heck you can keep the fruit in your room. Perhaps hang on later for the more prepapred stuff, (sounds good tho!). Get yourself to potlucks and around some raw 'peeps' for encouragement. Hang here .

Yes..not having all kinds od stuff all over the kitchen wouldnt stop me. I would eat simple raw in my room.
I love this...one who doesnt want to do something finds and excuse, one who wants to do something finds a way.
Not saying this is you......but I see, there is ALWAYS a way in any circumstance.

try to get an dorm fridge to put in your room & keep things in there including nuts & things. try to do your juicing when they are not home. They just don't understand or don't like all the 'good stuff' in their face;). Don't let them take it away from you. If you do, they will be like this to all of your life. You'll have to give up what you like or is good for you to please them. Hope you can work it out & get out soon.

Nuts are impossible to find here, and there are no raw people either to hang out with.
With all the SAD food they stock it's almost impossible to store fruits anywhere. I can always grab vegetables from the garden, but I get tired very quick of munching on what looks like just a simple salad.
Sprouting and anything that requires blending and juicing is also out of question from now on, which really doesn't leave me much to work with...

Tough times call for tough measures...eat fruit...keep a bag of apples in your room, bananas, you can make salads out of anything...millions of combinations...don't your parents eat any fruit and veggies?

Really, no raw foodies local? Can you say the general area you are in here? Maybe some people will come out of the woodwork and say 'hi, I am a closet raw foody and i am local to you'... ya never know! Also did you check out meet-up?
I understand transitioning you want more complicated foods. You may try like 80% produce and the rest 'what mom has'.. or just pick a % of raw to commit to until you spring outta the house.
I hope all the encouragement on this thread helps. Whatever your path, peace, love happiness!

I live in a small place in the middle of nowhere, in Quebec, Canada. Raw still hasn't surfaced in the "mainstream" anywhere here yet, except maybe in Montreal but anything else is like shooting in the dark.
I'm trying to do my best to keep raw, but 100% raw is out of question now, which kinda pisses me off because I've seen and enjoyed the benefits of it and hate losing them to SAD food...

Wait a minute! I'm sitting here shaking my head thinking, WTF? You are forcing YOURSELF into eating SAD? That's nuts!
If you truly don't want to, then DON'T! Keep it simple for now. You'll live and you'll live to tell about it, then when the time comes to go gourmet, you can.
To me it sounds like you are looking for an excuse to go back to SAD/CRAP foods...for real!
How old are you? Are your parents tying your hands and force-feeding you? If no, then good grief man! Stand up for what you believe in. So what if there aren't any raw food places near you - who cares?
If you TRULY want to live this healthy lifestyle, then NOTHING will stop you...

Vegan,
I'm not looking for an excuse, but just can't spend my days eating just unprepared vegetables or fruits. Even though I know it can be done, I need to feel like I'm eating different stuff and prepared foods once in a while.
Apples, bananas, kale and tomatoes tend to become bland real quick for me...

What were you doing that they thought you were conducting science experiments? I mean green smoothies satisfy tremendously, and that combo would make a good smoothie...the apples/kale/bananas...kale is a little strong though...
Would your parents try any of your food you've prepared?
I just hate to think that you KNOW this is so good for you, that you feel you have to give this up.
Why not cut a deal with the folks? Ask that once or twice a week you ALL do Raw days?
They might surprise you and want to join in...

Personally I've found I can eat the same fruits and veggies every day as long as I have a good raw dressing. Takes about a minute to put a dressing together. You can keep a small personal blender in your room. Can't find what you want raw there? Go online.
I agree with Lucy (VeganforLife).
I'm wondering why you came here to tell us of your plans. Did you want suggestions? If not, give us the script and we'll go by that and not waste OUR time "trying" to help you do this.
Oh wait! You did say you just needed to rant. O.k., rant on ~ thank everyone for their comments and... we'll just move on, 'k? :)

Yes, if you were looking for suggestions - try some of these...
I agree with Revvell...dressings are so quick to make. Love lemon and EVOO. Simple. Done.

Basically, the biggest issue is that all the shelves, pantry, fridge and freezer are already full of their SAD stuff and there's no room left for anything I'd like to stock or just even purchase.
No room on the kitchen countertop for a blender or processor either (well, there would be, but that and sprouting are part of the reason went ballistic on me yesterday)
Making "raw food days" and cutting a deal with them is not an option either. Unfortunately they're both good people, but the kind who only read self-help books to justify not taking control of their lives. They know about raw food and it's benefits. My father is a diabetic and is well aware of the impact of nutrition on his health. My mom keeps complaining that she's not losing weight and keeps eating pizza and other SAD food.
Just after the argument yesterday, the spent dinner complaining about pills...
And yes, please, keep your ideas and suggestions coming. They're all very much appreciated and I will definitely take everything I can into account :)

Hey Strangedahlia I understand what you are saying.
I remember transitioning i wanted more complicated recipes than just mono mealing . I would have never stuck with it otherwise. Eventually the bodies need to do that as much will calm down. Sooo again, (you did say keep the suggestions coming), I would see if you can commit to one meal a day just fruit say. It might be hard. Keep it in your room, simple, end of discussion with mom and dad. Once you create a pattern of having say a fruit breakfast (your choice) you'll be about 33% raw!You may even start to notice whats in season ,look forward to that and feast on that ...you are simply re-educating your pallette and adjusting your body.
By the time you head out of the house for college( did you say?) you will NOT have taken a big step backward and in many ways you will have kept expanding your raw self and journey...without a raw crumb ever reaching the well stocked family SAD kitchen.
You can own this change Strangedahlia...right now raw is still 'counter-culture' and you are bound to bump up against challenges, anywhere, anytime. So why not practice the challenge with the ultimate experts, difficult parents!!!You get this in this stage of your life it will really change you. You will get so much out of it, (not just talking raw here).
I wish you well.
Cheers!

Gosh! And THEY could be so healthy by simply eating! It blows my mind! They should be proud of you for wanting to not follow in their footsteps.
I would just do what you can until you are out on your own. You KNOW what is good for your mind, body, and soul.

ya know strangedahlia... do what you can and really... don't stress it. Please understand that everyone is just trying to give you some ideas for options...
bottom line is ... sometimes we jes gotta do what we gotta do. Eat as healthy as you can when you can. Make wise choices when the option exists... and know that if it is your heart's desire to pursue the RAW food LIFEstyle... then as you are able -- you will find a way to follow your dreams...
Personally I would still participate in RFT... it will keep you informed of what's new on the scene, any new recipes you might want to 'tuck' away for later... and I think - even thou you may not beable to be 100% raw right now... staying in touch and blogging will help to keep you encouraged.
if I'm correct -- one of the rules inforced by the moderators is that you cannot blog about WHAT you're eating during your SAD meals... but I don't think there's a problem with just checking in and reading some blogs stuff like that.
You might even consider keeping a personal journal over in the journaling section... It will help you process your thoughts and help in your quest for RAWmacious LIFE!!!
It's all good... the journey continues...

I don't even know you or your situation, but even I gather from your posts that your family is ENVIOUS and/or COMPLETELY JEALOUS of you and your choices.
and they want to hold you back so they can feel comforted that their own "offspring" is not BETTER than they are.
I get similar attidute (not so much anymore now that they see major changes for the good) from the older members of my family... but after many months what do I see? My sister and cousin have both become at LEAST 80% raw, and they are just as passionate as me!
The one thing from my experience that I have learned is NOT to fuel their fire. NO MATTER what they say or do, and no matter HOW annoying it is... DON'T give in to their CRAP. Live the way you want to, and when snotty remarks come your way, laugh it off and leave the room...
going out and getting extra exercise is my favorite way of filling in those tough times of frustration...
But at the same time I understand about not being totally-100% raw all the time, but if you feel you are being repressed then stand up to your family's hideous ways...
what could they REALLY do?

I love the PURE bars too!!!!
What are you doing in the kitchen? My kitchen does not look like a lab. I am the only one in my family that eats raw and none of my friend do.
Granted, I am not always 100% raw, but generally.
If you want a break, take one. If you really want to stay raw, keep the kitchen clean. Make it extra clean, help clean up after others.
Even though I'm Mom, I keep my raw stuff seperate from the rest.
For a younger person, I can see how isolated you may feel without friends eating the same as you do.
Keep your chin up.

Apologies... I just read the last post after replying... Still, should anyone else have this issue...
----
How about keeping a blender in your bedroom?
In the winter, you can store frozen fruit and veggies outside on the porch. Then bring your blender to the kitchen, make a smoothie. Wash out the blender immediately and put it right back in your room. That way you'll get your nice liquid breakfast or snack without cluttering up their kitchen.
Also, what about keeping a dehydrator in your room? Buy your food, prep it immediately, put in on the trays... and then clean up the kitchen before they even see it. If it's the mess they don't like, then you won't have any more trouble and you'll have resolved the issue. This also resolves the issue of you not having anywhere to store your raw food.
Fresh fruit in a bedroom may cause issue. But dried foods kept in sealed glass or plastic containers won't be a rodent/bug risk and can be stored/stacked on the top shelf of a closet.
