So we bought a frozen durian. I have eaten them before and quite liked them but the smell can be a bit problematic, especially when you have other people around who are not used to it. I was woundering if we could use it frozen in a smoothy. Anyone any suggestions?

Seen people in vids eat frozen.......I have heard of the smell....and i have to say... I would not eat anything if it smelled badly. I cannot see how people eat these things.
Enjoy. Good for you!!!
Just going from the taste and texture, I think it would be lovely as an ice cream... in the garlic + dirty socks + vanilla custard kinda lovely way. ;)

They are good in a vanilla milkshake/smoothie. I'm not sure if I could handle the texture if I didn't blend it.

Lol. Thanks for the sugestions. I don't think durian smells naturally bad, it's just something we are not used to. Once you have eaten it, you don't really mind the smell anymore.

I know... I do feel bad for gagging everytime I smell it! My husband LOVES Durian! Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I do take a bite, I want to like it -- I really do.... but well.... I'm a whimp I guess!!! I figure if I keep trying one day I might learn to appreciate it... (hopefully!) oh and btw... I've been around Durian all my life -- it's common here in Hawaii! ... I'm still tryin though... still tryin!!!

lets not forget that it makes you high and horny...
I can never bring myself to eat enough of it to feel the effects, though...
at work we sell bumper stickers that say "It's not me. it's the durian,"

Three pieces of durian will usually have me giggly and wanting to run and play, *squeeing* with arms flailing like a little girl...

So is it Mood altering, makes you drunk, takes you back in time or does the smell make you do that as you are running away?

Anything can be "mood altering" per se.
I've never been *drunk* so I don't know about that.
Eating foods closer to nature actually has in many ways taken me "back in time" so I suppose yes.
The durians I pick never smell bad as they are not overripe.
*sprinkles good vibes as she skips away*...
