1.See your doctor before you start any exercise program. Get a full physical to make sure everything's in working order, then find a personal trainer in your neighborhood and make an appointment with him or her for a consultation. Most trainers will give you a free consultation and help you figure out what your fitness level is, your body fat and circumference measurements, and the right way to start a program.

2.Start Slow! Many beginners make the mistake of doing too much when they first start out. If you haven't worked out in a while (or ever) start with a walking program of about 20 to 30 minutes, 3 days a week. Each session, add a few minutes to your workout to progress each week.

3.Write down your workouts every day, making notes about what you did, how you felt and how you improved since your last workout.

4.Schedule your workouts each week, just like you would a doctor's appointment.

5.Eat regularly throughout the day so you don't bonk during your workout.

I don't have a doctor so there is no "your doctor". Haven't seen one in 29 years.

Yes, they do.

4....just like you would a doctor's appointment.

HUH? That'll never happen.

#6 ~ if you're sore the next day, do a bit of the hair of the dog that bit you. Fastest way to ease soreness is to move some more and get that lactic acid MOVIN'!!!

#1 is unnecessary and a waste of time, unless you know you have serious healthy issues that need monitoring. ANYONE can exercise at anytime without permission.

Oh thank God someone said what I was thinking. :D I always wonder who the heck follows that particular advice at the beginning of every workout DVD. When did we get to a point, as a society, where we are afraid to move our bodies without the permission of a "health professional?"

Sorry, your intention may have been only to help but the post reads like a generic mainstream magazine's top tips,(to me). Are you familiar with Raw Food Talk? The 'chat experience?

Agree about doctors and having someone tell you whether or not you are "fit" to exercise. That's just stupid. Move your body. No matter how slow or fast or intense or gentle, it is all progress to a goal. Each day you will be faster, stronger. To coin Nike, just do it.
