View Full Version : On using my VitaMix as a food processor...
Most of Alissa's recipes require a food processor. I don't have the funds right now and am wondering how I can use my VitaMix as a food processor. I tried to make the Date Nut Torte the other day, but when I tried to mix the crust, it didn't work! The ingredients flew and stuck to the sides of the VitaMix...

Yesterday I made a brownie recipie and used a cheap coffee grinder on the seeds/nuts then used my mixer and it worked great even though it was a small batch. Poor me had to choose between a new blender or food processer:)
Thanks so much for the tip! Where did you find the cheap coffee grinder? This is something I will have to look into.
I may not be correct - but I think I read here that the brand of food processor (Hamilton Beach?) is at Walmart for under $50...
Back to add ~ I went to HB's website and I wonder if this is the FP (http://www.hamiltonbeach.com/food-processors-prepstar-food-processor-white.html) that Alissa uses in her video? It's $45. *Ü*

The coffee grinder was at canadiantire for $10 but I'm sure other places sell them. It works wonders on my black sesame seeds, hemp seeds, nuts, the big seller is that it's tiny and can do atleast a 1/3 cup of nuts at a time:)

Hi Keke,
Have you tried Craigslist? I searched in my area, and there are at least 25 nice food processors available for around $10 - some still in the box.
Good luck!

I've never used a food processor. Instead of a coffee grinder, you'd be better off with an electric mini chopper. I love mine and can use it to chop nuts, garlic, onion, veggies, apples, salads, make ice cream, etc.
Has almost 300 perfect reviews:

You can find it at Target or wait a bit till Amazon has a better price as it fluctuates.

No matter what VM says, the VM is NOT a food processor. Well, it does process food ~ if you add enough liquid. It is a BLENDER!
There are a LOT of places to get inexpensive fp's including garage/yard sales, swapmeets, eBay, Craiglist.
Thanks, all! I guess I'm better off just getting a cheap FP until I can afford a proper one. Dimond - I actually looked into the one you posted! Looks great. Thanks again.

If you work the Vitamix hard-lots of mostly dry recipes-then definitely you need something else to help. But if you rarely do or make mostly liquid or partially liquid recipes, then you shouldn't need anything else. I've been fine with VM & mini chopper for years. Guess if you're making a crust and other similar items, you need to add more liquid or get the processor.

My food processor is my most used piece of equipment for raw. I could not live without it. I make flax crackers and pizza breads. I shred veggies for wraps. Guacamole in 60 seconds. Craigslist sounds like a fabulous option, as most people have food processors that never get used.
