Welcome All,
The RAMADAN season of FASTING is swiftly approaching...
(New Moon in August til Fall Equinox in September)
RAMADAN will serve as a time of awakening for some
and renewal for others.
Learning what it means to be hungry yields
increased compassion for the poor.
Acknowledging our dependence
upon food/ water, and the brevity of "life".
Control of urges and passions, refinement of charecter clarity of mind with an earnest focus on our DIVINE CREATOR

A tremendously wholistic approach for inner reflection, spiritual devotion, deepening, renewing, redefining of goals and self-control. Fasting is also beneficial for health and provides a break in the cycle of rigid habits or overindulgence.

Additionally, your digestive system receives substantial rest and the psycho/spiritual/emotional attunement during this time has been like no other for me. Talking about finding out what your really made of.

An excellent compliment to the RAW VEGAN lifestyle

Depends on moonsighting and your location on the planet. the equinox may actually fall a day after the New Moon for September, but you get the idea.

The beauty of it all is that fasting is open to all with or without a religious preference the soul benefits purely from the intentions and the reflective/ introspective experience.

I'm starting tomorrow with some Master Cleanse drinks, then juice later in the p.m. - when I have time do make some - I'm very excited!

I haven't set a defenite # of days, just going to go with the flow~

Same here. Not sure how many days I will fast. And will be fasting MY way. The traditional Ramadan is way too restrictive for my body. None the last it will be a fast! And a fast in numbers! How cool! I'm stoked!

Yesterday went well - it's been a long time since I tried fasting, so I didn't remember what to expect.

I mostly just did the master cleanse yesterday because of the convience of it & herbal teas - Yogi has a "fasting" tea that really seemed to help - I had 2 cups of that. I had 1 - 32oz master cleanse drink made with maple syrup & 1 - 32oz made with agave - I much prefer the agave, it's a lighter flavor - the maple is far to sweet for me.

I decided I'm not going to do any supplements while on my fast, so my body doesn't have to break down anything.

Day 1 was good - I even taught yoga last night. I had a couple light headed spells, but nothing major.

On to Day 2 - I'm looking forward to having juices today & herbal teas as well.

Today I still had a good bm this morning - I've been feeling really "full & heavy" lately (from too many nuts/fats) & this is what I'm hoping to relieve with fasting, as well as becoming mindful of not overstuffing myself in the future.

I received some of the fasting/juicing books I ordered from Amazon & will start reading tonight.

Hope everyone else is doing well!! :D

AWESOME! SNAP! Forgot about my fasting tea!

::note to self - get that box out of the cabinet::

Today is day two and no headache like last time. I think I'm calmer with this and know what to expect this time around.

I'm feeling calm about this so far as well - it just "feels" right - not forced.

Glad to hear you're not having any headaches Veganforlife!

On a small side note: I just stepped on the scale & lost 4.5# since yesterday morning!

NICE!!.....

I haven't seen the scale move in awhile, but to fluctuate between the same couple #'s - the # on it this morning is the lowest I've seen in 10yrs!

I'm off to try & remeber how my juicer works...

RAMADAN MUBARAK to you all!

A few of my goals for this season...
Body: Temperance, patience and self control, remembering that my sustainability is greater than food and water.

Mind: Enhanced mental faculties, improved intution, listening...

Spirit: A nearness to my Creator that transcends religiosity. A charitable focus and greater reflection on my gifts to humanity. Celebrating the divinity within.

DAY 3 a Feeling Fine

Fasting has a way of freeing up a whole bunch of time. It's amazing how much I would normally be grazing throughout the day and how much time is spent on thinking about, shopping, prepping and consuming food.

Hmmmm

NAMASTE ALL!

Thanks for thie wonderful post! I have done 2 long juice feasts (30 and 45 days) the past 2 years, besides fasting for Ramadan. This year, I understood that for Ramadan, one must not gorge himself at sunset, but instead, prolong that wonderful fasting feeling by eating lightly, and only raw foods. Also, I just discovered Fast until 5 lifestule (not sure if I am allowed to post the link here so please look it up) it is basically the same concept as Ramadan fasting, except that there is a 5 hour time window during which one can eat. So this year, for Ramadan, I break my fast with a green smoothie filled with superfoods (spirulina, bee pollen, maca, spinach, OJ and peaches) I feel FANTASTIC. Just had a gorgeous salad topped with seaweed and wheatgrass powder; it was delighful!!! Desert is a mouth watering banana cobbler (will post the picture as soon as I can.)

Happy fasting!
