hey all you experienced raw fooders, I'm attending a family party and want to bring the best possible raw dish or two. I'm planning on not telling them it's raw until after they try it! Any recommendations on dishes that were a hit for you? I do not have a dehydrator and I don't have Alissa's book (on my to buy list!) Thanks.

If it were me, I would keep it simple, and take something that everyone loves
A big fat watermelon cut in half, take out the center, and fill with delicious cut up bite sized fruit, star fruit, bananas, kiwis, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, oranges, papaya, peach etc. Just have fun with it.

Zucchini "pasta" - either spiralized or with a veggie peeler making "noodles" with pesto sauce or a creamy alfredo type sauce or a combination of both sauces. Throw in some pretty thin strips of red pepper for color and maybe some raw black olives if you have them (or not and it is still good). I took this to one meal and never even told anyone it was raw. Just enjoyed hearing people oh and ah over it! They assumed it was just a salad.

I recently went to a vegan potluck (not SAD, but not RAW either!) and I brought two dishes that went over really well. One was a salad made with zucchini, cherry tomatoes, fresh corn, lots of dill, and some other things. I will find the recipe when I get home and post it if you're interested.
The other thing I took was a "chocolate" tart, and that was a HUGE hit. Here is a link to the recipe:

It's the Chocolate of the Gods Mousse and the Crumble Crust, except I used hazelnuts for the crust (delish) and didn't soak them. I made it in a springform pan that I oiled with coconut oil and dusted with carob powder so it would pop out easily. Decorated with fresh fruit (I used raspberries) and mint, it makes for an impressive presentation. I even took pictures I was so impressed with myself, but they too are at home.
I'm not sure why, but I feel like it is easiest to impress SAD folks with raw desserts. Maybe because they are so universally delicious, or maybe because you can't see all the raw veggie goodness in them when they look so chocolatey.
Good luck!!

Thanks everyone, the fruit salad sounds good. Kris, I'd like that veggie salad recipe. And I'll check out the tart. I was thinking a raw desert and a salad so that sounds good. Now I just gotta see if I can get good fruit at the market today.
