Absolutely.
A hand held blender is like a Bamix.
It is a device about 14 inches long, that fits in your hand, about 2 inches in diameter round, and has a blade or blade type thing on the bottom that you put down into food.
The Bamix comes with different blades and a base unit so it stands up or hangs on the wall.
It is very easy to clean, and very easy to use almost anywhere, I use to keep one at work, in my drawer, you just rinse off the bottom part when you are done blending your smoothie or whatever.
You can actually use it is a cup, so there is simple and easy cleanup.
here is a website I found by Googling, bamix
http://www.everythingkitchens.com/handmixers.html
they have several hand blenders for you to see.
but, yes, you can use any type of blender instead of a hand blender, it just takes longer to clean them.
