Hi all,
I want to know if anybody has any experience with bowel obstruction and Crohn's disease and raw food? Last night I started getting a severe pain in my upper stomach due to trapped gas. I couldn't bear it any more, so I went to the hospital at 4 am. There they checked me, did some examinations like scan and x-ray. Next thing I know, the doctor came to me and told me that my small intestine is blocked and I need a surgery. It totally came as a surprise. I didn't expect something that severe. I had thought somehow the gas got trapped and once they treat that this one time, things will be fine. So anyway, I went against the doctor's recommendation today, signed a paper that says I'm doing something different than that suggested by the doc and left the hospital. However, I did tell him that I have a history of Crohn's disease that was diagnosed seven years ago. I took medications at that time for 6-8 months and it seemed to go away. The symptoms were the same at that time too - the same kind of pain in stomach with trapped gas. So the doctor also suggested that I meet a gastro-enterologist in the hospital and he might have more idea if this intestinal blockage is related to Crohn's, if I still have Crohn's, etc. But I didn't consult him either and left (mainly because I had some things to take care of today and tomorrow). If I consult a gastro-enterologist, I'm sure he will prescribe some medications, and I'm not really inclined to take medications (mainly fearing the side-efffects).
So my question to folks here is, did anybody here go through the same problems of bowel obstruction or Crohn's disease? Did you go for conventional treatment? Did you eat raw and did that help in curing these diseases?
Thank you for your answers.

I have a friend whose dh is going through the same thing. Only a couple yrs ago, he did have part of his intestines removed. he currently has blockages/scar tissue. Please contact her! You two should be sharing.
Her name is Susan: s.walker.meere@adelphia.net Please tell her Mary Kay shared her address.
I told her I believe a raw-smoothie fast would help her dh but he's so thin, he's afraid t do this......
Paul Nison also wrote a book about Crohn's, I believe. This would be good because it's from a raw-food perspective.
And you may seriously want to consider going to a place like Hippocrates.
Pls keep us apprised of your progress. Best of luck to you.

Yes, he did (http://bit.ly/tb06W). It's what brought him to raw.

Paul Nison ...I believe raw is what has kept him alive. His story is amazing & worth the time to read, imo. I've heard several of his audios. He does lectures too...just none in my area.
I was diagnosed with Crohns/Ulcerative Colitis in 2005. In 2006 I was also diagnosed with a wheat intolerance. I took the conventional route for a while - one set of medication to stop the immflammation and STOP me going to the bathroom and then another set to MAKE me go! The first lot were inch long capsules and I had to have up to 9 a day! I decided this was not what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life and so I started re-researching the Raw diet. I have both David Klein's book and Paul Nison's book. I now eat a mainly raw diet but I do relax it on occasions as I don't want to be too difficult on the odd occasion I go out with friends. When I went back to the Consultant in 2007 I took my book with me and explained what I was doing and he was more than happy for me to do this. I would certainly suggest trying the raw food method for any one with digestive issues. Good luck.

i've read before squatting for bowel movements prevents colon cancer and crohns amungst other problems. you can google if interested to see diagrams of the differnce it makes to squat vs sit. did a quick google on the squat and pasted what they said on this link.
so in my opinion you may want to consider starting now if you can. american toliets don't support this method but you can get creative in order to do it like with pans on the floor and so on.

Sitting Toilets: The Root Cause of Crohn's Disease
There is an underlying cause for Crohn's Disease (and IBD in general) that many doctors do not know or have ignored. It is the Western habit of using sitting toilets.
It can be very difficult for people living in the white, English-speaking Western world to accept this. For the majority of Westerners have never even seen, let alone use, a squatting toilet.
But it is true.

PLEASE read "Triumph over Disease". It can be found on the soilandhealth website. If you can't access it I can send you a pdf. Best wishes.

Azaria,
Who wrote "Triumph.." and can you tell us the gist of it?
Thanks,

It was written in 1977 by Dr. Jack Goldstein, who was a very conservative doctor of that era who became very ill with ulcerative colitis. The details of what his body went through are utterly indescribable (understanding of the disease and treatment was quite ludicrous and insane) and ultimately the story of how he healed despite conventional treatment...did not 'cure' but simply got his life back and then some  it is a treasure story for sure, for anyone seeking truth in healing, but for someone with similar stuff going on in their body...it is essential.

I used to have really bad IBS before I went raw. It went away very quickly on raw.
Get in touch with Dave Klein. He is amazing. I highly recommend his book and the magazine that he publishes about natural health and raw food called "Vibrance".
Blessings!

I just came across Jack Goldstein's story online (easier to access than soil and health, though that is an AMAZING sight for fasting info)

I am sure it will help. Also, you may want to search with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). I have a book about it and some people with your condition did reverse the decease with these treatment.
If you are up to fasting, you may want to be overview by a professional with that, but it is known to give a brake to your digestive system to allow healing to take place. I would do a juice fast.

Oh my god, I had totally forgotten about this thread and reading it now makes my blood run cold.
Have just spent the last 2 weeks visiting a friend who had a relapse of ulcerative colitis after being in pretty consistent remission for about a year (no more than a few months of totally 'normal' though). She had a massive flare up and the level of inflammation, sepsis, and hemorrhaging in her intestines was so full on that she has had almost all of her large bowel removed and has 2 stoma bags in her abdomen now. For the first time in a few weeks she looks like she might live. She is 26. There is hope to eventually reconnect everything and ditch the bags down the road.
What really blew me away was the fact that she is on TPN (total parental nutrition) and has tubes going into her arms and neck feeding space man food, neon coloured vitamin drips and thick white pasty stuff. She has been told to avoid anything raw because it can get stuck in the bag.
These autoimmune diseases are so horrible and insidious ....please take care of yourselves and eat raw while you can!!!
