I've done a couple of searches (which generally answer any question - bless your respective hearts) - but am not having any luck with this one. Am doing well with raw for the most part but often have these intense cravings for fried chicken (oh the shame...). Any southern boys or girls out there who have any suggestions? I'd be truly grateful for any advice you could give.

I've often wondered how I would make a chicken fried steak for my husband if he were to ever go raw, but I haven't tried yet.

Here's some ideas--

You could "bread" some big button mushrooms or a portobello mushroom with a nutty, salty, spicy batter then dehydrate it until its crispy. It can be crunchy on the outside, but will still be juicy (and flavorful if you marinate it awhile in olive oil & spices) on the inside.

Maybe some pecans with a bit of olive oil drizzled on, then tossed in salt, poultry seasoning and smokey chipotle powder (or whatever spices you like)might help.

Have you tried Kale chips? They are the same texture of a lay's potato chip and can be seasoned any which way you like=)

Now, let's go make some!

From my experience with cravings of those hard-to-replicate things is to either resist it or to eat the real thing.
If you eat the real thing you will hopefully discover that it doesn't taste nearly as good as you imagined. And even though it might taste good, you will hopefully notice how bad it makes you feel.

I also try to figure out if it's the flavor or the texture I'm craving. Flavors are usually an easy one, texture can be very tricky, especially with raw foods.
It might just be the salt, fat or seasoning you are craving so you might want to experiment with that.

I still have cravings for "bad" foods every now and then, but I always realize that even though I still think it taste good there are always raw foods that I think taste better so I'd rather have those.

I remember one of my friends telling me that detox worked in layers, and as she went through detox she would move through craving "phases". For example, her first cravings were for vegan treats, then she had cravings for meat (even though she hadn't eaten meat in 2 years), then she had cravings for cigarettes (3 years after she'd quit). It was as if the toxins awakened cravings when they were released from the cells. Just an interesting way to look at it!

Alissa has a Recipe in her Book, Living on Live Food. Here is a Recipe by D'Angel............

Chicken Stripes

2 c of almonds finely ground

2 lemons juiced

1/3 c of water

1/2 T of poultry seasoning

1 tsp of salt

1 tsp of thyme ground

1 tsp of tarrogon ground

1 avacado

In a mixing bowl with a mixer, mix your lemon juice , water, and almond flour . Add your seasonings and the avacado . Blend well . Set aside .

Now place some tex-flex sheets on your dehydrator trays . Form stripes from the mixture above and place on the tex-flex sheets in the trays . Dehydrate at 110 degrees for 3-4 hours on both sides until they are between soft and hard . They should be ready to eat by now , dip in flaxseed gravy or veggie dipps

This!

After giving up soda, I had a craving and gave in to it. It tasted like crap and I have no use for it anymore. That seems to happen with many other things here lately. I'm glad.
