Hi

I have a question on juice fasting. I am on day 5 of a juice fast. Back in June I did a 7 day juice fast. I had wanted to make this fast 10-14 days but we have to go out of town this weekend (which I didn't realize) so I will be ending my fast tomorrw. I plan on doing a 10-14 day juice fast sometime in September if our schedule permits. Here is my question:

To those of you who have done a juice fast did you notice a metalic type taste in your mouth after the first couple days? I had this happen during my first fast and it is happening now as well. I also feel as though the inside of my mouth is coated. It is rather gross. If I did a longer fast would this go away eventually? I know that I am getting rid of bad stuff, I just wonder if eventually the metalic taste will disappear.

What do you guys think? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much

Hi! I started my raw journey with a fast, a colon cleanse (I had to do this as prep for a colonoscopy) and then, after the procedure, 5 days juicing only.

Never had metallic taste in my mouth. Never had my mouth feel "coated". In fact, I felt better than I had in a LONG time.

I made 32 oz of juice 3-4 times per day. Used one apple, 3-4 carrots as my base, and then added any wild veggie I could find: fennel, sweet potatoes, cucumber, celery, zucchini, yellow squash, tomato, you name it, I had the variety!

I had at least 8 different things in my juice each time, and each group of items was different during the day. I was very light on fruits, very heavy on veggies, and used as much dark green leafy greens as I could make the juicer juice! Kale, collards (very hard on the Jack La Lanne juicer I used), bok choy, I used them all.

Now, I'm not sure I had any detox symptoms at all, or if I did, they happened without my noticing, but reading other threads on this site and other sites showed me that your symptoms are not unique, and may actually be your body cleaning the bad stuff out. I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but I do know that I've never felt better than I do now, and if it's possible, I feel better every day. Go figure!

Good luck, enjoy your experience, and have a great weekend vacation!

Jackie

1. That is detoxing, in the best case scenerio, you are getting rid of some older stuff.

2. Again detoxing - as you clean it will clear.

I did 20 or so days (10 juice, 5 water, then 5 juice) a few months ago.

After about 7 days, I began tasting odd things ranging from slightly metallic to chemical. Around day 10, my pores began releasing odd odors, like coffee, which I hadn't had in months and months. I had been raw for awhile and had already undergone some detox when this occurred. The more deeply your body cleanses itself (ie; the less you consume and the more your body can rid itself of), the older--and sometimes much more putrid-- the stuff that comes out.

Also keep in mind that fasting can make the body more sensitive to smells, tastes, emotions...all of it.

It sounds like what you're experiencing will fade (and hopefully disappear) when your body is finished with it. ;)

Thank you for responding!

Yes, I know that I am detoxing, (or was, rather, I had to break my fast today). I guess what I am really wondering is if I keep on fasting, if the taste will go away. I mean fast until the taste is gone and then it would be out of my system. Since this has happened both times now I feel like I have not had an affective fast and that my body has unfinished work to do.
What do you think?
Oh, one more thing, I am nursing our daughter exclusively. So far she has not suffered any adverse effects of my fasts, she is actually thriving! I do worry about releasing toxins into her milk though. What do you think about that?
Thanks so much for all your insight. I look forward to hearing your replies!

I do not know about the rights and wrongs of this but would assume that the results of a detox would be that the body would eliminate toxins by means of any fluid that was leaving the body. Somebody please tell me that I am wrong

I am doing a juice fast right now too, and this is happening to me. in fact, my boyfriend has told me for the last 2 days that my breath smells like lighter fluid! (butane) which is so gross, but from everything i've read, this is your body getting rid of it.
