I ate a third of a clove of fresh garlic and almost immediately felt nauseous. Then I vomited up my dinner. I have seen the light! No more garlic for me, or onions either.

Garlic is Very Good for you, being an Antibiotic. I think you should try it again, just one Clove this time and work your way up to more.

We made the "mashed potato" recipe in Rawvolution's book this week -- of cauliflower. Only a tiny bit of raw garlic. It was so STRONG, overwhelming. I know garlic is healthy, but feel we have to be more careful about raw fresh garlic in future. What do I need to know?

Raw garlic makes me feel spacey - mentally unfocused. But oh so great of a flavor enhancer....
I was thinking of flattening and dehydrating some raw gloves, wonder if that would mellow the sharp flavor and mental effects...

That will give it more of a cooked flavor. Just ground it up and you'll have your own garlic powder :D

I think when one goes Raw and their body is cleansing and healing? Garlic IS a strong flavor and cleanser - initially. I'd say try it again after being Raw for a good amount of time. It IS so beneficial for one's body...

I personally feel that you should listen to your body and stay away from garlic/onion for now. It is true that this is a natural antibiotic but there are people that don't react well with that. I would try it again in few month after you have been raw and see what happen. I couldn't eat honey melon without having nausea, now i can no problem.

For those that have a reaction to garlic, chop it well and soak in vinegar or lemon juice to deodorize. The other choice if you still want to use for the positive benefits, is aged garlic.

Listen to your body! Certainly just because something is said to have health benefits, doesn't necessarily mean it's right for your body. There's no one right diet for everyone. I for one stay away from onion and garlic because they're incredibly stimulating mentally & make it hard to meditate.

I have found just the opposite, so I too would say give it some more time on a raw diet and try again.
I can now tolerate garlic and I enjoy it almost daily, whereas before the diet change, it would bother me greatly, giving me what I called a "garlic hangover".
Being able to consume it without being bothered by the effects it always caused has been great. I feel good about the cleansing it is doing, I have an energy boost when I do eat some, and I have also noticed I don't get the number of mosquito bites I used to. Eating it, no longer seems to smother my skin like it did, nor does the odor/taste linger with me for days. The bites I do get, no longer bother me like they did. I would get a strong CNS reaction and the bites would swell and itch for days.
I just wish I knew the science behind it, and why the shift in tolerance. Is it all due to digestability being aided by other raw foods/no animal fats or proteins? Or is it that raw has boosted my immune function, which I suspect has been low for a long time? Regardless, I am happy to be able to eat it again, and hope the same for you Humanist.

I belive that Gabriel Cousens recommends using hing (asephoetida) in place of garlic and onions. I know that there is some thought that eating too much garlic can destroy some of beneficial bactieria in the digestive tract. However, I believe that some of the pracitioners who recommend not using garlic on a regular basis, use it medicinally. It is definatly helpful for someone who has an other growth of candida for instance.

I definitely wouldn't put onions in the same category as garlic. I think onion can be toxic to some and something you should eventually use little of, while garlic still has medicinal benefits regardless, and deodorized it's perfectly healthy.

I read somewhere that it is helpful to cut out the little root inside the clove. This seems to help me.

I intend to listen to my body and eliminate garlic, for now and forever. Obviously I don't need it. I can see now that its so-called health benefits are bogus. I do not believe in dietary relativism. What is bad for me is not likely to be good for you. My reaction to garlic was not a personal idiosyncrasy; there is something toxic in garlic that all of you should reconsider.

I'm not so sure about Garlic either. I do a lot of muscle testing before I eat something due to food allergies and I always test weak with garlic. I've even tried Organic Garlic and I get the same response. Red onions and chives seem to be ok.

I have found garlic to be a good natural alternative to MSM.
