Hi Everyone~
I am just wondering what books help you with fasting/feasting in all aspects:
Mentally, Emotionally, Physically, etc...?
They don't have to be specific to fasting, just curious, because the thought of doing a feast crossed my mind today & I'm entertaining the idea - I just like to be prepared.
Does anyone have Angela Stokes Ebook on feasting?
Do you recommed a juice feast, or a green smoothie/juice combo feast?
I will be working 35 hrs per week & exercising over 1hr per day (P90X) some days 1 1/2hrs. What type of feast will keep my energy levels high to get through these kind of workouts?
I did the master cleanse 3yrs ago for 6 days when I was still SAD & I came off it like the most ravenous person alive!
I don't want that to happen this time & since I've been RAW since 1-1-09, I think it may be easier.
Your experience/suggestions are welcome!
Thank you for your time~monk~:o

I forgot to add that I do have a Marathon juicer (like Greenstar) - lonely, just sitting in the box.....
& a 1980's Vitamix - the kind with the square stainless canister - (I claimed this from my bf's kitchen because he only used it for grinding dried habeneros into powder....) - it works ok, but sometimes leaves chunks - maybe I don't do it long enough?

- i vote juice fast / feast , ever checkout www.juicefeasting.com
- my favorite fasting authority , herbert shelton :
http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.toc.htm
- ive done a 10 day water fast working a job doing vigorous manual labor / running / lifting . yes there were tens of times i was down , but the struggle to push my work outs harder on the fast became a great high
- if get weak try adding almond milk to say some orange juice . also a V8 type juice is very hearty for me on a fast , and perfectly tomatos are in season to the max

Thanks michigan roman!
I briefly skimmed the juicefeasting website in the past, but I thought you had to pay to find out the info - I'll have to check it out again.
The other website looks interesting too - I've got some reading to do!
Very impressive doing intensive workouts while water fasting -
I'm not quite ready for that yet....;)
I'm looking to release waste/toxins, improve my skin & a little weight release would be nice too~:D

I would recommend any of Angela Stokes books as she has been a long-time juice faster and raw foodist. She has one on raw emotions which is also suppose to be excellent.

from what i understand angela has only ever done one fast... and that was her 92 day juice feast. perhaps i'm misinformed.
anyway, her book is great: click here (http://www.timelessspirit.com/SEPT08/review1.shtml)
and my fav fasting book is: click here (http://www.timelessspirit.com/JULY08/review1.shtml)
i've done a 5 day water fast and worked out hard... it was horrid. then i did one for 15 days and didn't work out... it wasn't much fun either LOL veeeeerrrrrry hard to break a water fast properly - at least it was for me - i much prefer juice fasts. easier to break (although can still be very very difficult to do) and yummier!!!
from mother's day to mother's day 2008-2009 i fasted 262 days. only about 40 of those were water (mostly a day of water within a juice fast week kinda thing) and i much prefer my days on juice. but that's just me, i had more energy on juice. i didn't have all that much detox really... ya i had some days but all in all... it was more about energy for me than anything else.
i'm still just a novice faster though... i'm hoping to really get into fasting again after my babe is born and nursing well (or done nursing)... we'll see if i can wait 5 years to fast again (eeeeeek) just the sound of that makes me sad. i sooooooooo love to fast!!!

Aleesha, you're still a NOVICE faster??? Hehe. :p Think you used the wrong word there darling! I remember stalking you through your fast earlier this year. Would never have got into fasting if your enthusiasm hadnt rubbed off on me!
To the OP , Ive found that just reading on these boards beats any fasting books, because you can ask questions. Having people like Aleesha ,... (She's still a novice though :).) on board and other experienced fasters has definately pushed me when I felt like throwing in the towel.
I ve done green smoothie feasts, juice fasts/feasts. and water. My longest fast has been a water fast 10 days., other than that, Ive done combo fasts, 2 days on green smoothies, 2 days juice, 2 days water then back to juice. i find it easier to fast when I dont have to handle any food what so ever, then I dont nibble or get tempted.
My first fast was a 3 day water fast which helped me quit smoking. i find water fasting the easiest, but that means that after day 4, im a zombie . I get dizzy spells if i get up too quickly, cant work out, i sweat a lot and have massive detox symptoms and my colon completly shuts down. ..well that is the whole point of fasting anyway, to detox. but water fasting is the hardest to break. I couldnt eat anything without getting windy for nearly a month! and it wasn't the silent discreet type of wind either! hehe
I found myself being sick a couple of times where I had peanut butter about 4-5 days after my fast. it was too heavy. so IF your are considering water fasting, be prepared to break it very slowly. I broke my first fast with warm water, salt and pepper broth!.. trust me , back then, it tasted like ice cream after not eating for 3 whole days!!
Fasting is fun... well sometimes

Actually Angela does fasts/feasts all the time, just not as long-term as that one.

I am doing an extended water fast at the moment and just finished The Fasting Path by Stephen Harrod Bruhner. It was very good, could have talked more about the physical part of a fast, but overall I liked it! :)

Wow!
Thank you for the responses everyone - I truely appreciate it - I'm off to the library right now to see what I can get.....then to amazon to the the "used" book specials - Love them! :D
Aleesha - I had no idea you fasted for 262 days!!!! I know I've told you this before, but you are simply amazing~Congrats on the babe too! :D
If I were to do a juice feast - could I still drink homemade kombucha, or is it better to take a break from that, as well as tea (my only nonraw indulgence)??
I am in awe of those who have done water fasts - how do you "know" it's right to do them? I know they are very cleansing - do you put your life on hold while doing them?
You are all AMAZING!!
I can't wait to join you - very soon......;)

no putting your life on hold,-you enjoy it MORE and it's a beautiful experience that words can not describe. A water fast is a pure magic.
Everything else is not a fast even if we call it a fast/feast but it can be fun too. Enjoy :)

Unfortunately I don't have the time to put my life on hold. I've always had to work, go to school, study, etc. This week however I've been on vacation, so I've only done about an hour or so of cardio every day. I've never had problems with doing a little exercise while on a water fast, especially after day 7 or 8, that's when my extreme energy usually kicks in. It can be done while doing daily activities, just drink a good amount of water and listen to your body. If you need a break or need to lay/sit down for a bit, do it.

How to keep slim, healthy and young with juice fasting / by Paavo O. Airola- I liked the most even thoug it is an old book- I got it from the library- so I am not sure if it is still for sale.
Juice fasting and detoxification : use the healing power of fresh juice to feel young and look great : the fastest way to restore your health / Steve Meyerowitz is okey and is definetely very available.

Again, Thank you everyone for your replies!
I went on Amazon last night & purchased $108 worth of juicing & fasting books - some per suggestion & some per reviews. I can't wait to get them & dig in :D
I am going to start adding juice to my day to get used to using my juicer for one & for two - introducing my body to fresh juices - something I've never really done.
I've done a lot of reading today about juice feasting that was interesting - it seems like everyone feels pretty good juicing, then apprehensive about eating afterwards.
I think I feel uneasy about the after part - I don't want to fall into a binge cycle.
Any words of wisdom on that?
I'm off to do my P90X Leg/Back & Ab Ripper X workout right now, then to make some juice!

monk,
it is what it is. sometimes it takes a while to get into the swing of chewing your food. sometimes you want to eat anything you can chew LOL
but it's a learning process and one you can only learn by going through it. ;)
EVERY fast i have broken has been different. and i cherish the lesson with every one.

You, Aleesha, are so right. After the first 10 day juice fast I wanted to eat everything in sight, but i started craving foods since 7th day and didn't listen to my body to stop the fast. Second time my hunger returned also on 7th day and this time I listened- had pretty easy time with starting to eat. Now I decided to do small weekly fasts, and I didn't want to eat the next day. Nibled this and that - and nothing seemed to fit the bill.
