Hey RAWbies!!!!

Well, I'm going back to the basics!!! I'm committing myself to Alissa's 30 day plan to it's completion!!! I'm following EVERY recipe to the letter and taking photos along the way!!!!! I am going to do the plan EXACTLY as outlined in her book!!!! I'm TOTALLY excited about this!!! I know I can do it!!! :)

I've been doing this lifestyle for 2 years now....off and on. Actually, more on than off I'm happy to say!!! However, because of not doing it completely, I have not lost all of the weight that I have been wanting to lose and I still have some of the same ailments and body aches I had after discovering this lifestyle 2 years ago. Well, my friend, all of that is going to change! I'm tired of waking up with thoughts about this... I'm gonna JUST DO IT!!!!

So, Alissa says in her book, if you get off of the diet, you need to start all over. So, that's what I'm doing!!! I appreciate all of the encouragement you can give me!

I didn't have all of my supplies this morning, so I started out with a Banana for Breakfast and a Veggie Roll with a Green Smoothie for Lunch. When I went to the store after lunch, so here's what I made for dinner:

Large Salad
Alissa's Not Tuna Pate (THIS WAS HEAVENLY!!! AND SO SIMPLE!!! I REALLY loved it on her Flax Cracker!!!)
Alissa's Dressing (DELICIOUS!!!)

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-Day1002.jpg

Tonight I'm making Alissa's Date Nut Torte and Fettichini Alfredo to prepare to eat for tomorrow. So, DAY 1 and DAY 2 will be taken care of tonight!!!!

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-Day001.jpg

Oh, BTW, my grocery bill came to: $37.09 (I did have a lot of "staples" already, though...)

Thank you so much for your beautiful book, Alissa!!! ((((HUGS))))

Go Renee!

Curios, what does "Off" the diet constitute? I am integrating occassional off meals on weekends so my social life isn't murdered (rather than off days, which was my initial concept after 30 days pure raw). I had instant negative feedback after exceeding one off meal and went back to pure raw and feel good again.

I heard that if you don't go overboard (say, just a weeked rather than a week) you can do a 1-day juice fast/feast to snap you back.

Thanks Snoops!!!

Curios, what does "Off" the diet constitute?

Well, for me, it was going back to SAD food, occasionally. The RAW lifestyle can be challenging when you still have to cook for your family, as in my case. But, it's NOT IMPOSSIBLE. Alissa outlines in her book what to do, even in that situation. I just need to follow what she recommends. I do find that when I have RAW food on hand, it's less challenging than when I don't.

I heard that if you don't go overboard (say, just a weeked rather than a week) you can do a 1-day juice fast/feast to snap you back.

What does "going overboard" mean? I think it's all in how you think of it. Is this a "lifestyle" or not? For me, doing just a weekend was not enough to experience the changes I want to make. Alissa makes a point in her book when she says to COMMIT do it for 30 days. I actually did do the entire 30 days before and I did lose 23 pounds! I think if I want RAW to truly be a "lifestyle" for me, then I need stick to it rather than allowing myself to get off.

What a fabulous idea!! Are you going to keep it all in this thread?

Yes! I'm gonna try to... Thanks for the encouragement!!!

================================================== =====

Today I had Watermelon this morning and 2 Bananas. Then I had a nice piece of Date Nut Torte!!! Talk about YUMMY!!!! I'm still licking my lips!!!! I had forgotten how DELICIOUS it is...and SOOOO easy to make!!!

For Lunch, I chose not to make the Fettichini Alfredo because I remembered that I didn't like it much the first time. How wonderful the flexibility of the "diet" is!!! Alissa says that you can make a substitution for another recipe in the book, so I had some of Alissa's Enchalada Bread left over and I chose to make the inside of the Enchaladas and put it on the flat Bread and eat it like a tostada!!! YUMMY!!!!

Going overboard in terms of OFF the diet, not the other way around. I didn't mean raw only on weekends I meant if you cheated on a weekend (after being raw all week) as opposed to going 'overboard', which for me would mean more than a meal or two cooked or SAD, more like a week.

After 5 weeks 100% raw, I go off the diet if I really want to or have to (social situations) on weekends and find it very easy to stay raw 80-90% most of the time.

I agree it has to be a LIFESTYLE (a great one!) and the 30 day plan helps you to do two things, experience real changes AND form a new behavior and break old patterns. Good luck!

Yay!! I love that you are being flexible so the plan works for you! THAT is how people enjoy making it through 30 days and beyond. :)

I'm sorry if I miss understood you...what you're saying about cheating is a bit confusing to me... I guess what I'm trying to say is that my goal is not to cheat at all...to do the diet the way that Alissa outlines in her book. To even entertain the thought of going "off" is not what I want to do.

Maybe that sounds "rigid" to some people, but not to me. I guess you have to do what works for you. It's all in what you want to achieve. I've seen threads on this site that will tell you that there is a HUGE difference between 99% and 100%. I honestly want to experience the 100%. I kinda compare it to trying to quit smoking (of course, I've never smoked, but...). If you allow yourself to have a hit every now and then, you haven't really "quit"...

I do wish you success in what you are trying to do as well! :)

FROM DAY 3: 8/13/08

Well, I'm moving right along!!! Today I had lots of Fruit to start with, then I made Alissa's DELICIOUS Collard Roll Wrap!!!!

I needed something sweet, so I also made the Banana Icecream!!! I threw in a Mango and topped it with Pecans which made it taste like Butter Pecan Icecream!!! So Good! I figured out how to make my pictures bigger!!!! ...COOL!!!

WOW, loving the bigger pictures!!! So great! How DID you do that?!

Wish I could take credit, but I "figured it out" by looking at an old e-mail that Jenna sent me! Here's what she said:

Just go to www.PhotoBucket.com and click on "Join" and create a username and password. Then you'll have your very own album to add pictures to! You can upload them directly from your camera. After you upload the photos, you'll see in your album beneath the picture different codes for it. Choose the one that says "IMG Code" and click on it (It will look like this: [IMG]http://img.phot..) and it will say "copied". Then take that code and paste it into your reply on RawFoodTalk and the image will show up nice and big :)

BTW, Eva...LUV your SITE!!! :)

Hey everyone!!!!

I've been having a tremendously stressful day! In the past when I have a day like this, it makes me nibble on SAD chips or cookies...things I know I don't need! Now, I'm recognizing this in myself and I'm not allowing myself to give in to it. I have some RAWritos that I made a week or so ago, I'll have that with Pico de Gallo , and later I'll have Alissa's flax crackers w/Almond Butter/Banana/Agave, Or, I could have some more Torte....So, I'm gonna nibble on those instead.

I'm SOOOO glad that I made enough food so that I won't need to "Uncook" anything for myself!!! I have made plenty of food, thanks to Alissa's huge recipes, and I'm all set for the next couple of days! I'll still check in, though... :)

Today: 1/2 Watermelon
A few Bananas
A few Oranges
Bowl of Pad Thai (DELICIOUS! It's funny, I didn't like it when I made it 2 years ago, but I gave it another try and I'm glad I did!!!!)

Later: Salad w/Not Salmon Pate
Green Smoothie

Morning everyone!!!

Yesterday I rested a lot...(I had worked the RED EYE the night before), and I ate just FRUIT (Bananas, Grapes, and Watermelon) and an Eggplant Bacon Wrap with a few Olives. I also had a Green Smoothie (H2O. Spinach, Bananas, Mango)...but that's it. I just wasn't in the mood for anything with nuts in it, so I still have some leftovers from Week 1 to eat for today. I'll fix the Collard Wrap today for Lunch and have the rest of the Pad Thai for Dinner.

Last night while I was in bed, I started having "visions" of Hot Wings...:o I remembered what Alissa says in the book not to entertain the thought, so I'm happy to say that I didn't!!! :) I started nibbling on some Grapes and thinking to myself,

"These taste so good! And, they make me feel good! RAW food is so good for me!!!"

And, that got me through it!!! Before I knew it, the SAD thoughts were gone and I was so happy and proud of myself that I didn't give in!!!

DAY 7...

Thanks so much for the encouraging words!!! Today I am looking in my cabinet to see what I'm missing from the Week 2 Menu! I'm licking my lips with anticipation!!!!

Today I had a Green Smoothie and I had a taste for Alissa's Marinated Portabella w/the Ginger Sauce, so I made that over a Salad!!! Soooo Good!!! I also finished off the Torte earlier, so looking forward to the next RAW goodies on the Menu!!!

Got a "visitor" today :o, so I haven't lost any weight yet...but I'm not discouraged because I had NO PMS!!!! NO CRAMPING!!!! And, no EXCESS weight gain or bloating!!! Actually, it just kinda snuck up on me!!! :o I am POSITIVE that RAW had made the difference... Can't weight (pun intended!!!) to see some more changes....

Reneeh,

Your marinated mushrooms look yummy!

I no longer get visits from the "vistor", I was blessed with an early menopause, when I was 48. It is hereditary in our family. I love Menopause! We use to call it the visitor also. Or "that time of the month".

Yes, it must be the Raw Food which is making the difference for you! Excellent!

Great idea and thread Renee! :) I think that going back to Alissa's 4 week plan is a great idea to get yourself back on track! I got her book a couple of weeks ago and am actually working through her menu plan now also. I am going into week 3 now, and WOW, she wasn't kidding! It IS a lot of food! I have been halving all of the recipes, and still don't get through all of them in a week. I also came off of a 20 day master cleanse before I started though, so I haven't been as hungry as I would normally be - but that is starting to change!

I'm with you on the fettucini alfredo, I wasn't a huge fan of it. And the Pad Thai is pretty awesome! I absolutely fell in love w/the collard wraps - the marinated mushrooms and onions make it SO delish! :D I was also amazed that the mock salmon pate somehow tasted slightly fishy! Maybe it was just in my head. I loved it with flax crackers and carrot sticks.

Looking forward to reading more on your "re-introduction" journey!

Thanks everyone! I'm on Week 2 Day 8!!!

Today I made: Alissa's Pasta w/Marinara Sauce, Blueberry Pie, Not Tuna Pate, and French Dressing.

Everything is DELICIOUS!!!!

This is SOOO Good!!! I didn't use my Saladaco, though...I wanted a thicker noodle, so I used my veggie peeler with an attachment. I also wanted a thicker sauce, so I used more Sun Dried Tomatoes than the recipe called for. DELICIOUS!!!

This is TERIFFIC!!! I was also surprised how "fishy" it tasted!!! I'm gonna have this with some Flax Crackers later and maybe with some Carrot/Celery Sticks.

WOW!!!! Thank you so much for saying that!!! WOW!!! What an incredible compliment!!!

I got in from my flight about 6am after working all night, and slept most of the day today. I did have a salad earlier, though. I wanted to tell everyone how INCREDIBLE Alissa's Spagetti w/Marinara Sauce is....especially if you let it sit for a while!!!! The longer you let the Zucchini Noodles sit, the firmer and more "Spagetti-like" they become!!! Try it!!! I let mine sit for 2 hours and Boy, oh Boy!!! I was lickin' my plate on the airplane lookin' for more!!!! :)

Gonna have more leftovers tonight...got one more slice of pie left and a scoop of Not Tuna Pate. Lookin' forward to making different meals tomorrow!!!!

Hey RAWbies!!!!

I fell in my garage and twisted my ankle!!! So, I won't be making many "Creations" today...:( My hubby took a HUGE RAW step for me...He didn't offer to bring me ANY SAD FOOD!!! He brought me up some fruit while I had my foot elevated on ice in bed! Isn't that GREAT!!! I basically just had fruit today. I did have some Granola Cerael w/Almond milk too... For dinner I'm just having a Salad with Avacado.

Margoss: Yes, I get complements all the time at work on my food!!! Sometimes I let the crew try some and they have yet to say they don't like anything!!! Alissa's flax crackers are always a hit! It's quite easy for me to take food along...and it keeps me from eating the junk on the plane--especially since I work First Class usually!!!

Starfire: Girl, you are so crazy!!! I just LOVE you!!! Let me know how your Pesto Lasagne tastes. Yesterday (when I made it) I absolutely LOVED it... Today I'm not so into it...much better the 1st day you make it...

WEEK 3 DAY 18:

I don't do a lot of recipes - is that time consuming??

Actually, no...not to me. I'm one of those people who used to love to cook....now I love to UNcook!!! :) As long as you have all of your ingredients on hand, all you need to do is follow the directions about how to assemble your dish! It's really FUN to me!!! Most of the dishes take minutes to prepare...depending on what you're making.

Today I made Alissa's Potato Salad and Pineapple Sundae...I've had both of these before and they were both still DELICIOUS!!!

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-.jpg

I'm not a fan of Tahini, so I didn't use as much as the recipe called for, and it was enough for me. I really like this dish!!!

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/AlissasPotatoSalad.jpg

This was FANTASTIC!!! Next time I'm gonna use less H2O, though...it was kinda "runny" to me... My 7 year old Daughter LOVED it too!!!

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/Meals-Sogood002.jpg

This is SO good! And, SO EASY to do!!! I took Alissa's recipe for the Sauce for her Crepes and just poured it over Bananas!!! SOOO GOOD! Try it!!!

Hey everyone!!!

Well, my DH's Co-worker couldn't make it today... Of course, he didn't let me know until AFTER I made all this food!!! ...Which, of course, is not totally a BAD thing...;) ...more for me, right!!!! LOL!!!

Anywho, RAWSugarGal came over and we had a FEAST!!! I made some familiar dishes: Alissa's Spagetti w/Marinara Sauce, Walnut Pate Meatball, Broccolini Salad, Alissa's Broccoli Soup, Alissa's Flax Crackers. We also re-made the Date Nut Torte (we're both HOOKED on it!!!)

Everything was FABULOUS, except the Broccoli Soup... Sorry, not my favorite. It's O.K..., but I prefer Alissa's Corn Chowder better. It's the best soup I've had so far. Here are some photos:

Is that you? oops i re-read and see that's someone else!

Well, I was gonna wait till the 30 days are up to do an updated photo of me, but here it is... There is something "interesting" going on...(SMILE)

This was taken January 2009 (LOOK AT MY FACE):

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/Jan192009PHOTOS002.jpg

Here's me wearing makeup on June 15, 2009...BEFORE restarting my 30 days RAW (YOU CAN STILL SEE THE ACNE ON MY FACE!!!!)

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/ReneeConv.jpghttp://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/RAWtoGO002.jpg

Now, here I am just a couple of days ago.... (the 2nd photo) (MY ACNE IS GONE!!!!)

The really "funny" thing is that I didn't even REALIZE that I had Adult Acne!!! I have only lost a few pounds so far....Hey, I'm NOT complaining about that!!!! (The 1st time I did the Alissa's 30 day plan I lost 23 pounds...) but in 3 weeks on Alissa's 30 day plan, I have NO ACNE!!! Also, my PMS Symptoms are gone , and I feel INCREDIBLE!!!

Aleesha's photos (as well as Morn's and others...) are encouraging to me because I know that, if I continue to stick to RAW, my weight will eventually go down to where I want it to be. I'm not looking for a "miracle pill" here. I'm real with myself. It took more than 30 days for me to gain these extra 40-50 pounds and it's gonna take longer than 30 days for me to lose it. I also need to exercise more...I'm absolutely going to do that. But, I'm glad that I have stuck with this way of eating because I know that I'm healthier and it's the best way for me to live.

Tomorrow starts my final week in Alissa's 30 day plan. These 3 weeks so far has definitely given me the boost to go on eating this way! I can't WAIT to see more changes... So watch me, yau'll!!!! Soon, I'll be taking a BIKINI PHOTO!!!! ....uh, not yet though.... ;)

WOW! I do not know what to complement first or the most the pics of the fabulous food or the picture of your face looking so fresh and alive in just 3 weeks! Today I am starting the first ever 30 day raw challenge and read this thread and am inspired and drooling, makes for a funny looking picture in itself! Really THANKS for inspiring and letting others know how much variety and even fun there can be in preparing/creating raw food and at the same time days when you can make it SO easy on yourself and just nosh on simple food as well. Wonderful....

Thank you all so much!!! A friend of mine who saw these pictures said that she couldn't see the difference I noted because I was wearing makeup, but that's why I put the middle picture there. Actually, I was wearing the same makeup in both photos, so they should look the same if there was no change. Also, during this last week, people kept telling me that my skin looked smoothier and healthier...but I didn't pick up on it until I saw the photos...

Even though I had only a "mild case" of acne, it WAS there! When I look in the mirror, I DO see a difference. I have also lost 8 pounds and several inches so far....but I still have another week to go! Actually, I have eternity to go, since I will continue to eat this way!!!

Well, I'm off to the store to shop for this week's food! I've been making the Flax Crackers, so I'm gonna pick something I haven't made before from Alissa's book to substitute that. I'll post again later today!

I want to thank everyone for cheering me on this month!!! This has been SOOO much fun for me!!! I am going to keep this thread close to my heart so that I will continue to encourage myself. Huge ((((HUGS)))) to all of you!!!

you don't have email enabled here... so I can't email you!!

Renee, I just discovered this thread and you are such an inspiration! Thank you for taking all the time to do this for us. I hope it keeps getting bumped at least monthly for newbies!

I have one question, though. I travel a lot (son is an airline employee!) and am wondering how you get dressings and marinara thru security. Do you take them in your quart baggie in 3 oz containers? The pics didn't look like you did. I have been taking just fruit and crackers, but would love to have more variety.

Fess up, gal, and keep up the good work.

LOL!!!! Actually, the containers I use for my Sauces and Dressings ARE 3 oz Containers. Maybe the photo makes them look bigger, but they are 3 oz. I also use little baggies for my Pico de Gallo, and I've never had a problem because I take a small amount.

The photo with the Corn Chowder in the large container was NOT taken on the flight. But, I did use THAT container to store it in the frig. That's why I put a separate photo of that....very observant you are!!!! ;) I'm glad you like the thread...it's been SUCH a JOY to do this!!!

=============================================

This morning I had some Granola Cerael with Almond Milk. I also had a HUGE Salad for Lunch today. This time I added some Pecans and Sundried Tomatoes in it...DELICIOUS! I snacked a lot on Nuts and Crackers...I LOVE Alissa's Flax Crackers!!! And, I also had some fruit (Strawberries, Grapes, Banana, Blueberries...)

This evening in my dehydrator are: Alissa's Berry Bars and Alissa's Falafel. My nuts are soaking to make Alissa's Noasted Turkey. I changed the menu up a bit for the last week because I had made week 4's dishes before and, even though the Crepes are FABULOUS, I wanted to try some things that I had never made before. I actually didn't like the Carrot Burgers the first time, so I decided not to make those. When making the Falafel....let me tell you, I was licking the mixture right out of the processer!!! It's REALLY THAT GOOD!!! I'm watching the dehydrator with Watermelon sized EYES licking my LIPS!!!! Now here's where one of STARFIRE'S Avatars would come in handy!!! I can't WAIT to taste it when it's ready!!!! Photos are coming when they're done!!! Hold on to your hats!!! :D

O.K., you guys...THIS IS BORDERLINE ***OBSESSION*** NOW!!! SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!! LOL!!!! :D

I just made Alissa's EGGPLANT PIZZA!!! I was craving it and I just LOVE it!!! So, tomorrow I'm gonna have a feast!!! In addition to the Berry Bars, Nosted Turkey (will make tomorrow), Falafel, and Flax Crackers...now I added the Eggplant Pizza!!!! The Pizza freezes well, so I know that this will last me this week...(Well, the way that I eat this Pizza, It'll probably only last a couple of days!!!!)

Are you wondering HOW in the WORLD I'm able to have time to make all of this? Well, look at what time it is!!! It's 1:15 in the MORNING!!! But, you know what, that WORKS for me!!! The whole house is sleeping and I get to do something I LOVE to do!!! This is SERIOUS **ME** time!!! Now, doing this late or early in the morning may not work for you, and that's fine! You have to do what does! It honestly didn't take that long...especially the Eggplant Pizza which takes minutes to make. If you work during the day, why not make up some dishes when you get home...before going to bed. Or, get up an hour before you have to leave and make up some stuff...imagine what you'll be MEDITATING on throughout the day in anticipation of when you get home!!!

O.k., I'm done talking!!! Off to bed now to dream of eating my dishes!!!! Photos tomorrow!!!

Thanks you guys!!! This journey has been INCREDIBLE!!! And, I feel FANTASTIC!!! Regular BM, Clearer Skin, No PMS...AND, I'm happy that I've been able to stick to eating RAW again!!!! Truly, this has been so GREAT for me!!!

Today I had a FEAST and I am SO full!!! Everything is DELICIOUS!!! I wish I could give samples to all of you!!! Here are the promised photos:

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-019.jpg

Alissa's EGGPLANT PIZZA and SALAD - This is SOOO GOOD!!! I make this quite often actually...it's a "staple" of mine because it freezes so well... I just pop it in the dehydrator for a few minutes to warm it up and it's as good as when I put it in!!! This photo really doesn't do it justice!!!! Really, it doesn't!!! It's one of my favorite recipes in her book! This time I cut the Eggplant thinner than I normaly would, but I wanted it to be done by lunch time today...and it was!!!!

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-020.jpg

Alissa's RAW Falafel - OMG!!!! This is SOOO GOOD!!! I will leave it in the Dehydrator to get more crispy, but it's totally to LIVE for!!!

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-021.jpg

Alissa's Berry Bars - SO Good!!! To get the "bar" shape I put the mixture between 2 pieces of Saran Wrap and used my hands and spachula to "cut". Came out GREAT! I had made RAWvolution's before, but these are not as dry...I think because of the nut to fruit ratio...

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/30DaysRAW-022.jpg

Here's the Noasted Turkey!!! I must say, it DOES taste like Dressing!!! Really, it does!!! I had to stop myself from eating it to form the loaf!!! I didn't make the loaf tall so that it would cut down on dehydrating time. It sorta reminds me of Walnut Pate, but the Sage and Rosemary reminds me of Dressing. I'll take another photo when I cut it....

It feels SOOO GOOD TO BE RAW!!!!

Renee,

Has it been costly for you to buy all the ingredients you need to prepare these raw meals??? I am wondering because I really, really want to commit to 30 days of 100% raw eating (I would say that I am about 75% at this point) but I am unemployed right now and I am barely getting by. If I do 100% raw I am afraid I may just be able to afford simple fruits and vegetables (which is fine), but I'm afraid I will get really bored.

Has it been costly for you to buy all the ingredients you need to prepare these raw meals???

Well, it depends on what you view as "costly"... The first week I spent $37.09. The second week it was $54.00. The third week I spent $47.80. And, this last week I spent around $60.00 (I lost the receipt for this one, but I know it was around $60.00 Cuz I was out of a lot of "Staples"...). When I went shopping, I kept my food separate from what I purchased for my Family.

As I've stated, I **DID** have my "STAPLES" since week 1. For me, "STAPLES" include: Braggs (or Nama Shoyu), Flax Seeds, Some Nuts, EVOO, Spices, and Frozen Bananas for Smooties. I've been doing this lifestyle for over 2 years now, off and on, and so many of Alissa's dishes I had made before. I also buy a LOT, and I do mean a LOT...of Fruit, which is included in the price I paid...

I usually shop at HEB off of Hwy 90 in Katy. Sometimes, I go to Whole Foods for certain items, but honestly I haven't been there this month. I will NOT buy ANY Greens that are not Organic. I'm not picky when it comes to Lemons, Bananas, etc... But, I will not budge on my Spinach or Romaine... I have gotten to know the Produce Manager well at HEB, and he lets me know when I can get a "deal" on Organic Produce that's about to expire but doesn't look too bad (such as Portabella Mushrooms).

This diet/lifestyle doesn't have to "break your bank"!!! If all you have to work with is $20.00, get what you can with that. I also only did 1/2 of most of the Recipes I chose to make from the book (that'll definitely save you money!!!) So, if a recipe calls for 2 cups of something, only make 1 cup!!!

Hope that helps!!!

==================================

OH, BTW, I made Alissa's Mashed Potatoes with the Mushroom Gravy today....It was SOOOOOO GOOD!!!! I didn't like the Potatoes by itself...a bit bland to me. But, put it with the Gravy and VAVVVVOOM!!!!!! Delicious!!!
Too tired to take a photo today! I'll take one tomorrow when I have leftovers!!!

Nighty, Night....RAWbies!!! Sleep tight!!! ;)

Renee,

This was very helpful. Doesn't sound expensive at all. I buy organic when I can but I don't buy organic from Whole Foods because it is waaayyyy too expensive for me. Problem is where I am living now the WF is only a 10 or 15 minute drive while the place where I can get organic that's more affordable is about 1/2 hr. to 40 minutes away and I am really watching my gas usage too. So I'll have to figure it out. It sucks being unemployed!!! I was already watching every penny when I was working....but now geez!!!:(:o

WEEK 4: DAY 25

Someone once told me to consider the Dr.'s Bills, amount of money I spent on meds, and time off from work when I'm sick. Now, compare that to what you spend eating RAW without being sick! ...I used to get Migraines really badly!!! I shudder to think of how much I spent on meds!!! And, consider what people spend when they buy meat and processed foods!!! To me, it doesn't compare! RAW is MUCH cheaper than that! That's why I kept track of how much I spent each week. I was SURE that the amount I spent each week would come up at some time...

People always say to me, "Isn't it expensive to eat that way?" To me, "NO". Then they say, "Oh, it takes too long to make all of that stuff...I would never have the time..." I say, "How long does it take for you to peel a banana?" OR, "How long does it take for you to process some nuts in the food processer?" Sometimes I think people are just making excuses not to eat this way...making it harder than it needs to be.

Just like Alissa says in her book...keep it simple. Sure, you'll make these dishes the 1st 30 days, but soon you'll be
KISS-ING... "Keep It Simple, Sista" -ing.... :) I know that today I don't feel the need to eat any nuts. So I just had 2 Bananas, Watermelon, Strawberries, Grapes, and a Simple Salad for Lunch...with Eggplant Pizza...

(O.K...off my Soapbox!!!) :p

 ...Oh, wait...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta get back on for a sec!!!!

O.k., now gotta tell you about the Eggplant Pizza I made!!! In her book, Alissa says that she made Eggplant Pizza out of her Marinara Sauce. I had some left over from the Noasted Turkey, so this is what I did....

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/RAWFoodSept52009003.jpg

It is SOOOOO Good!!! There is no recipe in the book for it, just the idea. I just dehydrated it overnight and BAMMMM!!! It's SOOO GOOD!!!

what is on top of the tomato sauce for these Eggplant pizzas?

Well, I used the leftover Marinara Sauce from yesterday's dinner. On top of that I put Mushrooms (Button), Green Onions, Organic Spinach, and Red Bell Peppers. I put some more in the dehydrator this morning, so I could have them for dinner tonight..I added olives to that one! Super GOOD!!!

and what did you use for the crust in that last photo? It looks fabulous.

The crust is just Eggplant. I peeled it and sliced it about 1/2 inch thick. The dehydrator kinda shrinks it a bit when it's drying.

***I hope that you try it this way, as well as with the Pine Nuts and Spinach. Both ways are FABULOUS!!!

Well, I am seriously bummed out today. Renee, I realize that your 30 days is about to come to an end. I will truly miss your daily posts. I, too, cook for a SAD family, which is why you are such an inspiration to me. I am not really tempted by their food, it is just that it can be quite time-consuming to cook for both lifestyles. I came to the realization, early on, that I was willing to take the time to cook for them, so I needed to take the time to "un-cook" for me. And since I wouldn't think of giving them sandwiches for every meal just to make it easy on myself, then I shouldn't expect myself to eat salads at every meal. I have learned a lot of tricks and shortcuts already, but learned many more from you in these few short days. I really like it that all the recipes are from Alissa's book.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to "nurture" all of us like this. If I were the only person to benefit from this, your time has truly been well spent. However, it is quite obvious that I am not the only person you have touched! I used to teach 2nd grade, and have always loved this saying, "A teacher affects eternity, she never knows where her influence ends." And I would say you will never know, either, where your influence will go. I have a feeling this thread will continue to be bumped long after you end you 30 days.

Which brings me to this: Would you consider starting another thread: "My 2nd 30 days"? I have a strong suspicion that you have just scratched the surface of what you have to offer. Your first 30 days were Alissa's plan; I'd love to see what you would do on your own for another 30 days.

At any rate, I am really into experimenting with freezing, and excited to be able to take the bountiful harvest right now and get it in the freezer for later, when pickin's are much slimmer for those of us who eat raw organic.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you. Please consider another 30 days!

Annie,

(I'm REALLY CRYING!!!!) I REALLY am!!! Thank you!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this beautiful message! This has been an UNFORGETTABLE month for me!!! My heart is truly touched by all of the responses I'm received, but there is something really special about this one! I am so grateful to Alissa for her incredible book and I appreciate that I was in a position to complete her plan again...this time to STAY RAW! It means so much to me that I was able to inspire so many to do the plan outlined in her book! I feel so priviledged to be able to highlight how wonderful the book has been in my life. I can't thank Alissa enough!!!

"A teacher affects eternity, she never knows where her influence ends."

What a beautiful saying! I've never heard this before! I am so humbled that you applied it to me!!! My goal is to take Alissa's Certification Class!!! I can't WAIT to take it (when I can afford it...) so that I can learn more from her to be a "real" teacher!!!

I, too, cook for a SAD family, which is why you are such an inspiration to me.

I love how Alissa explains how to handle cooking for a SAD family! I have been doing exactly what she says: NOT standing over the stove cooking, Freezing meals for them, Making sure that I have plenty of food for myself.,, Many times, I would cook for them while sipping on my Green Smoothie!!! Sometimes, I ordered out for them and sometimes, my family has joined me in eating what I made! Here's my Hubby eating Alissa's Enchaladas...which he made into a taco...

Thank you so much for being a raw goddess like this. You rock

p.s Congratulations for inspiring your hubby, lol... something in me, tells me that at some point he will go also with raw vegan. Hey, his sweet half will look younger every day.

[QUOTE=ReneeH;554636]WEEK 4: DAY 26

Annie,

(I'm REALLY CRYING!!!!) I REALLY am!!! Thank you!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this beautiful message!

Well, it wasn't my intention to make you cry! (You must have been needing the release...lol!)

After all the time you have spent logging your daily actions, I think a thank you was the least I could do.

My goal is to take Alissa's Certification Class!!! I can't WAIT to take it (when I can afford it...) so that I can learn more from her to be a "real" teacher!!!

I, too, want to do this, not so much to be a real teacher, but just to "sit at her feet" with other like-minded people and soak up as much as I can.

I love how Alissa explains how to handle cooking for a SAD family! I have been doing exactly what she says: NOT standing over the stove cooking, Freezing meals for them, Making sure that I have plenty of food for myself.,,

For all of my married life I have cooked meals ahead because I have lived a busy lifestyle. Monday has always been my day "at home." I do laundry and cook ahead for the week. I always at least double a recipe if it is something that will freeze, and cook half and freeze half. So, I am ahead of the game there, but, at some point, I am still spending a lot of time cooking for SAD. And when I am cooking SAD I always make sure I have plenty of my food already prepared, so I can stay satisfied. (BTW: For me, the hardest thing about being raw and cooking SAD is not tasting for seasonings, salt, etc. I do not taste because I don't want to decide I want more than a taste!)

I'm hoping to hear there will be a 2nd 30 Days thread. Please say yes.

And, again, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Alissa's Falafel w/Salad and Mashed Potatoes on the side. I'm SO STUFFED!!! I froze my Falafel, but it didn't freeze hard as a rock. Instead it was crispy on the outside and firm on the inside. The flavors mixed well with my salad!!! I didn't have any more gravy for the Potatoes...ate all of it when I made it a couple of days ago!!! I only made 1/2 of the recipe, so this is the end of it, though...

My fiance, who is not High Raw anymore but still loves his daily Green Smoothies + lots of raw foods, LOVED IT!!!

Sandy: Way to go!!! I can't wait to read about how the rest of your month is going!!! RAWSOME!!!

I had a Salad today and a LOT of FLax Crackers!!! I "nibbled" a lot today...had a LOT of Bananas... Hey, have you guys tried Alissa's Corn Chips? They are Da BOMB!!!!!! I've had these lots of times! You gotta try them, if you haven't!!! I've made them both ways (with frozen and fresh corn)... I think I like fresh better!!!

I'm looking through the book to get my menu together for my next 30 days!!! I will post my list tomorrow so you can see what I'm gonna make!!! I'm picking some easy recipes (with few ingredients) and a few more complicated ones (where I'll have to do some sprouting...which isn't REALLY difficult!!!)

Oh, BTW...RAWSugarGal took measurements on me right before I started my 30 days!!! I didn't tell anyone because I wanted to wait till I was done and post them... Well, now you're gonna have to wait till I'm finished the whole 60 days!!!! HAAAAA!!!! :D Sorry!!! I will not measure till then so that I won't get discouraged....hope you understand...

Aww, Renee, c'mon........tell us how many inches you've lost. You do know, don't you, that we aren't going to let you stop nurturing us after 60 days, so just do it! Inquiring minds want to know.

And an idea for your next 30 days: Alissa's (actually she says it's Elaina Love's) Spinach Mushroom Quiche is absolutely awesome. I couldn't believe how wonderful the crust smelled when it was dehydrating. This recipe is kind of "fiddley" but it is good! In my "Before Renee" days, I would have only made half, but I made the full recipe and ate 1/8th, kept 1/8th in the fridge for today, and sliced the rest and dehydrated it some more and froze it. Yay!! I'm getting my freezer stash going.

My raw food journey is now defined as BR (Before Renee) and AR (After Renee).

You go, girl!

I will be logging my Exercising as well. I went and got a "dreaded" Pedometer!!! :D I can't do it every day...especially when I get in from a RED EYE Flight, but I'm going to find a schedule that works for me.

Today I will be finishing up my Noasted Turkey w/a Salad, having a Green Smoothie, and Fruit. I think I feel like having the Banana Icecream too! Just keeping it simple today...

Actually, I don't know!!! REALLY!!!! LOL!!! I know that my uniform is fitting looser... RAWSugarGal is gonna do my stats again after my next 30 days...PROMISE!!!

I did step on the scale last week and saw a 10 pound loss!!!! The last time I did the 30 days, I had lost 23 Pounds....but, I WAS EXERCISING DURING THAT TIME. I think that made the difference for me, so that's why I'm doing the next 30 days WITH EXERCISING. My focus will be on health, though. Cuz I know that the weight loss WILL come eventually. I'm in it for the LONG HAUL Yau'll!!! :)

I think 10 pounds is great!:):) I am with you on the exercise though. I have been doing raw and my weight loss is much slower when I don't exercise. I do want slow and steady but I know that adding exercise in will speed things up a little....naturally!

WEEK 4 DAY 29 still...

Thanks you guys!!! I am SO looking forward to doing ANOTHER 30 day thread beginning tomorrow!!! :)

I have no idea how you have time to make all this stuff...all or most of these are very complex recipes.

Well, some of these I have made before, so I can "whip" 'um up fast cuz I know how I like 'um...(like the Marinara Sauce I can make now w/o looking at the recipe...) Others, I'm looking forward to making.

What I do is I un-cook when my kids go to bed, or I get up early in the morning (see previous posts...one day I was up at 1:30 in the morning!!!) But, like I said, that WORKS for me! When I'm on days off, it's no thang for me to be up late. I work night flights...my body is used to that. It doesn't take long to whip things up when all of the ingredients are on the counter. Just try it! It REALLY doesn't take that long... (O.k., except for the Calzone...I know that's gonna take a while...)

That doesn't mean that you need to do what I do to be successful at eating RAW!!! Everybody is not cut from the same cookie cutter. You have to find what works for you... If you don't have a dehydrator, it's o.k....REALLY it is!!! Just do recipes that don't call for one!!! Many on this site do it and it works for THEM... just ask them... If you can't get up early in the morning or late at night...it's o.k. When *CAN* you prepare meals? How about as soon as you get home from work? Or, try waking up 1 hour before you have to leave and prepare then. When you get home, lookie what you got!!!

The point is: You CAN do this!!! You CAN...**IF** you REALLY **WANT** to... No more excuses. Just do it! You CAN DO IT... Stop making excuses why you can't. If you need me to e-mail you everyday telling you that you can do it, just let me know and I WILL!!!

Let's do this...............TOGETHER!

Thank you Rawism!!! I appreciate that!!!

Well, Today is my last day in Alissa's 30 Day Challenge!!! It has truly been an INCREDIBLE month for me!!! I want to encourage anyone who has NOT done it, PLEASE DO IT!!! I've seen so many changes this month: 13 Pounds and several inches lost, No more Migraines!!!!, Clearer Skin (no more acne!!!), NO MORE PMS!!!!!!, and I feel INCREDIBLE!!! And, I'm so PROUD of myself that I was able to accomplish this!!!!

(Gotta find the photo of the CAKE!!! Bear with me!!! :) )

================================================== =

RAWbies on RFT,

I just want to thank everyone again for all of the support I received. All of your encouragement touched my heart and gave me what I needed to complete it!!! Believe me, it was SO MUCH FUN!!!! I can't WAIT to do it again!!!! Wish you guys could have some cake with me!!! I tried to put some words on it, but they melted... :o Anyway...I took them off before we ate it!!!!

================================================== ==

Alissa,

Words just cannot express how thankful I am to you for writing such a treasure! Without it, I don't think I could have done 30 DAYS RAW!!! When I craved coffee or anything I'm not supposed to have, I went to the section in your book where you cover that. I felt like you were with me every step of the way, and I truly thank you so much for that. REALLY, I do!

Your words continue to inspire me and help me to reach my goal of staying 100% RAW!!!! As a treat to myself, I made your Chocolate Cake today! Of course, I was licking it right out of the processer!!!! :D

I am SOOO looking forward to coming to Boston to meet you at Grezzo!!!! Can't WAIT to taste your food!!! :) I'll let you know when, cuz I know how busy you are...

You RAWK!!!!

Also, what instrument do you use for your spaghetti? Your's looks so much nicer than mine! I use a spiralizer, but clearly not the same one as you!

Hi Carrie!!!

This is one of my FAVORITE recipes!!! It's Incredibly EASY to make!!! The Recipe is in RAWvolution's book by Matt Amsden...SOOO worth getting!!! (The Onion Bread Recipe is also from Matt's Book...)

http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/BroccoliniSalad.jpg

Basically, take an Organic Broccoli Head, Chop it up. (I put the stem in the Food Processor and pulse) Put in a Bowl with Chopped Mushrooms (I use Button, but any will do)... I also dice a carrot (tiny) and throw it in... Drizzle with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and Sea Salt. Toss and Taste!!! Let it sit out on the counter for an hour or so and it's FABULOUS!!!!

Also, what instrument do you use for your spaghetti? Your's looks so much nicer than mine! I use a spiralizer, but clearly not the same one as you!

So COOL that you noticed a difference in my Noodles!!!! Actually, I also use a spiralizer, but the "trick" is to let the noodles sit out on the counter for a couple of hours BEFORE you eat them!!! The noodles become firmer in texture and actually resemble SAD noodles more if you leave them out for a while!!! I usually do my noodles in the morning and let them set till Noon, or even later in the evening. The longer you let them sit, the more "Spagetti-like" they become!!!! :)

Thank you! I have Matt's book and I've yet to make this, so thank you for pointing it out! I think i'll make this for Thanksgiving or to take away with me that weekend! This does sound quite easy - thank you for sharing!!!!

Hey, you know what's REALLY good this time of year...ALISSA'S CORN CHOWDER!!! Be sure to warm the bowl, or stick the whole thing in the dehydrator for a couple of hours and it REALLY sticks to your bones!!!

Another good one is Matt Amsden's Not Chicken Soup! Watch out for the Daikon, though...can get "spicy" if you use too much!

Hey, I felt like having a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, so I took one of Alissa's Flax Crackers, Spread it with Almond Butter, put some Strawberries on top and drizzled with Agave!!! SOOOOO GOOD!!! And, so much better for you than Peanut Butter and Jelly!!!! :)

I am going to HAVE to make some UnChicken Soup, now... I LOVE soups - they are at the top of my favorite RAW foods, with Green Smoothies.

I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of raw soups. I've only tried a few and wasn't impressed. The one soup that I do LOVE is Ani Phyo's Miso Soup. Yum! I do use Miso sparingly in my diet (i know, it's one of those things like Bragg's and Nutritional Cheese... it's a personal thing!). I love this soup! I warm it up in the D or I Micro a bowl for a few seconds.

I don't eat corn - atleast, I try not to. Has anyone tried this with any other veggie? I just saw this recipe today. I literally have ALL of my raw books out scattered across my table trying to figure out the least-nutty options for Thanksgiving! I'm really looking forward to it! I'm now making the Broccolini Salad, thanks to you :) I dug out the book and it sounds easy and delicious! I was going to make Ani Phyo's Broccoli Mash.... I'm thinking maybe i'll make both but on separate days :)

Has anyone made Alissa's cheese's? I'm particularly interested in the swiss and in the Mozzarella. I've had her Cheddar Sauce in a Mac-N-Cheese dish. I'm craving raw Mozzarella like crazy - probably because someone bought some and then left it in my fridge... so, I keep seeing it. I think i'm going to give it to my mother-in-law... I don't want to be tempted with it. Cheese is the one thing that I do really, really miss!!!

Your AB & J sounds delish! I bet if you blended some of the strawberries with a little agave, you could have yourself an authentic AB & J :) Yum!!!

Can you share Ani Phyo's Miso Soup recipe?

I created my own Carrot Miso Soup recipe this week and it's yummy but I'm curious if I can make Miso that tastes slightly closer to my favorite Miso in town, which I used to get once a week at a Sushi Bar. :D

It is one of the FEW things I miss on 100% RAW...
