I felt a fever come on just an hour ago, and my stomach made strange noises and was making a "bubbling" noise.. And I also felt some stomach pains.

I have not been good at eating as much food as I should, have'nt eatn any seeds in a long time or any much greens either, just nuts and fruit whenever I've been hungry. I have not been a good raw foodist considering that.

But when I get those flu chills, especially now in these days, I got a bit worried. So now I made myself a smoothie with frozen blueberries and twi bananas and some water.. I also took 2 painkillers to try and settle the fever before it really sat in.

I do not feel anything now actually, but I am heading to greece in a few days, and I am worried that I might get sick and get the flu.. That would be stressful. And also because the people I am travelling with have been so sure I was gonna get sick on this trip because of me being a raw foodist. Ironic if I became sick even before we go..

Anyway, what would you guys eat if you were me? to try and fight off the fever/flu/cold..?

I usually just drink water or veggie juices. My reason for this is that I figure that the body can focus better on healing rather than digesting food. :)

I never take pain killers.

Yeah, I should not either take them I guess, but I just really do not want to get sick on this trip.

I have a lot of apples and carrots now, you think I should juice them? Putting spirulina powder in it?

Yeah that would be just fine. I'd add some lemon to that if you've got one. :)

I also took 2 painkillers to try and settle the fever before it really sat in. I do not feel anything now The pain pills will disconnect your body signals and make it so that you cannot read your body's communications.

About what to eat - try to read your body signals. If your not hungry then your body may want to to miss a few meals and give the digestive system a rest. Good luck.

Cracks me up that we insist we eat when our bodies are sick and fast when we are well.

I'd eat nothing. But would continue to keep hydrated...

I'm with veganforlife on this one - your body obviously doesn't want anything other than simple hydration right now.
Take it easy, you've had a lot of stress around your so-called friends lately too, which could be one contributing factor to why you're not feeling well now. Interesting that that trip is coming up in a few days too - maybe your tummy's telling you something about that? Just my thoughts here!

My advise:

Don’t worry.
The royal highway to healing: Water, warmth and rest. Stop eating. Only water until you get hungry again.
No painkillers. Fever isn’t a disease or not even a symptom of a disease. It’s a healing process. When your immune system identifies something unusual, it changes the thermostat and your body temperature increases. One of the effects is an increased amount of leukocytes.
A good, general overview of leucocytes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leucocytes

Painkillers often have these general effects: decreasing pain, fever, and inflammations. I think, the only indication of using pain killers is when your general condition, e.g. heart and circulation, is heavy impaired, especially if you are very young (<3-4) or old.

If you aren't hungry, listen to your body and don't eat. If you are starting to feel better and ready to swallow something:Fresh orange juice, e3live juice, green smoothies, etc... I highly recommend raw finely shopped garlic with water (don't chew but swallow with water), you can squeeze some lemon juice in your water.

If you are tired, sleep, if you are cold, add warm close or blanket. Just listen to your body.

Hope you feel well soon

When sick, anmals go lay down and sleep in a shady comfy spot. They dont eat and do drink sometimes.

I think I would drink water and sleep. Also would get a colonic asap.

Animals sometimes eat grass and puke. So a shot of wheatgrass (if it doenst make you nauseated) might help.

That's funny you put this post up b/c I've been sick today! I felt pretty much okay this morning however I knew something was off. I was hungry so I made my typical banana greens smoothie but ended up not drinking all of it---I think my body was already rejecting it b/c it was under stress & I was quite sure of it. ANYWAY my stomach was sick all morning into early afternoon now I'm starting to get hungry. With all that said I don't eat when I don't feel good I eat when my body is hungry. Hunger is my sign that my body is done working through stress & can take in food & be able to process it rather than make my body work harder. Usually I crave sugary fruits after I'm sick.....still haven't figured out why, but I do so I eat grapes & mangos when I'm hungry. If my stomach is kinda girgly but I'm hungry I might do like flax crackers or s0mething like that. Hope that helps!

When I get fluish, I drink lots of water, juices or make a soup. I normally don't eat anything.

I also get lots of rest and do an enema.

I haven't taken any medicine in over 10 years.

hi guys, thank you so much for all your attention and advices. I am still ill, diarreah (spelled correctly?) and fever. I went to the doctor today, she was a med.student and young as me. They took a sample of blood from my finger and said that my crp was "in the middle" (in Norway we say "right on three) so don't know how to explain it, sorry.. But she said that I probably have got a virus in my stomach and that it should just go over for itself. I told her about me being a raw foodist and she said maybe it was because I had eaten som unwashed fruit maybe? And I know I have been sloppy about washing everything I eat.. I know, it's so stupid of me. I eat a lot of imprted fruit, of course it's gonna be bacteria and virus on it. I feel so stupid and now I wash EVERYTHING alot!!:o

But still, I felt like she was just guessing, so I really do not know what it is. I don't like it when doctors just guess.. Going to the doctor should not be like playing the guessing game, right? Oh well, she said that I maybe would be fine till monday morning when I leave to Greece, so I really hope so.

To you who asked where I am from, Norway!

I feel so weak still, no energy and a lot of worries. Wish we could all just go to a store and buy ourselves a new healthy diseasefree body whenever we got ill..

Now, I know that not everyone will agree with me but...this is what I believe.

I don't wash any of my fruits/veggies. I barely even wash my hands. Yes, I know there are bacteria/virus/chemicals on fruits/veggies or on my hands. However, this is what strengthens our body, our immune system.

If you think about it, that is what a flu shot or a vaccine or even homeopathic medicine does. It gives you a bacteria/virus/chemical so that your body will build immunity.

So, instead of taking a flu shot, vaccine, or medicine, I just don't bother to wash my fruits/veggies. I also buy a majority of organic.

Also, if you wash your fruit/veggies in tap water, you are not washing off bacteria/viruses (because they don't come off that easily), and you are adding even more chemicals (chlorine, fluoride, etc). If you wash in filtered water, again you are not washing off anything.

I feel so weak still, no energy and a lot of worries. Wish we could all just go to a store and buy ourselves a new healthy diseasefree body whenever we got ill..

Yeah, feeling sick is no fun. I don't like feeling sick either but when I do, I welcome it because I know that my body is getting stronger. I always come out of my flu sickness with a much healthier body. I describe it to people as going through a dark tunnel (sickness) but then you rest, mostly fast, and then come out of the tunnel into a light that is brighter and better than ever before.

Our bodies have a strong desire to survive!

Girl_gone_raw...

From a lot of raw experimentation I've realised that there are ways to do raw and feel good, but if you are not balanced, you will feel and possibly look terrible.

Maybe you should try planning menus the night before, or at least have a few ground rules, such as 'at least one salad a day'. Salads you can always make, green smoothies may be harder when you are travelling (unless you have a travel blender).

I find the worse I eat, the lazier I will get (or the lower in energy), which means I will always take the path of least resistance, and eat a lot of nuts and fruit, and not eat enough greens. Greens are nature's healer. You really need them for balance.

I recently did a day of just raw fruit, vegetables and greens. I felt so fantastic the next day. It's good to have a break from the heavier raw (or questionably raw) foods.

As for those friends of yours, hopefully they don't hassle you too much. If they ask you why you are eating a salad, when they're eating saganaki or something, just say that you don't like the way cooked food makes you feel afterwards. It's amazing how other people are so invested in what you put in your mouth. You are disturbing their comfort zone.

Have a fantastic trip!!!

Not sure exactly what your condition was - gurgly stomach sounds like it could be due to bacteria - wash produce well.

For illnesses like fever/ flu agree with someone else who said garlic. Garlic finely chopped - the chopped part is important as it enables a chemical reaction to occur which produces something that causes the healing. You need to eat quite a lot of this throughout the day in my experience eg at least one and a half bulbs of it/ day. It can burn a bit but it really works. If you just concentrate on swallowing it down it lessens the burn.

Echinachea is also good - not sure if can get that raw? I've always used supplements in the past and you have to search for a good quality one as they are not all equal. Not sure if that's considered raw but I imagine heating wouldn't do much good for its effectiveness.

If you really don't feel like eating don't force yourself to. Would agree with others, just stay hydrated.

Also destress and rest! Have a great trip!
