Hello all. I'm considering purchasing this dehydrator and I'm wondering what some of the opinions out there are on it? Are there any options/accessories that I should consider getting with it?
Thanks everyone,
J.D.

I do not know what that model is like but I realised last night (reading some of Alissa's receipes) that there is a serious drawback in the dehydrator that I bought and just want to warn everybody about it.
Mine has trays that stack on top of each other so the hight of anything that you put in to it is limited by the hight of the trays. Alissa suggested for one of her receipes that you remove a tray and use double hight and I can not do that.

I am not familiar with this model, but I love my Excalibur, it works beautifully, easy to clean, and I've had mine constantly working for over 4 years, with no challenges.

This is the model I have. I've had it for a few weeks now and I LOVE it! I don't think you can go wrong with an Excalibur. The timer is a nice touch and there is just so much space available with nine trays. I'm always amazed at how much I am able to fit in my machine. It has a pleasant hum and doesn't heat the house up (unless I forget to put the door back on!!). It's easy to clean and the trays dry very evenly.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. All of your replies definitely help. scrapdawg, do the trays remove in the excaliber? I'm looking to avoid the problem that sport wrote about (above).

Yes, all the trays remove for easy cleaning and for adjustable heights. Great for making those scruptious Pesto Stuffed Mushrooms.

I'm thinking about getting an Excaliber that has only 4 trays. It is about half the price of the nine tray... I am the only RAW person in my family. Other than space, is there another reason I should not buy a smaller Excaliber?

The 4 tray is only 12" by 12" the 9 tray is about 16" by 16" So there is a pretty big difference.
Only you know how much you will use it.

One reason you might not wish to purchase a smaller Excaliber is that you can only do so much at one time.
When I was first starting out, I'd make food for about 3-4 days ~ and then some. Say you wish to make the lasagne. There's two trays because you'll have to remove one for the height. Then you want to make crackers. Depending on the size of the recipe, (and the trays) there go the other two. Now, you have some left over tomatoes from the sauces. Hmmm. No trays. Now, you have to wait until the rest is dehydrated before you can do the tomatoes.
With the 9-tray this hardly ever becomes a problem.
Add this ~ in the winter, you might wish to have some soup with the lasagne. Warm the soup on the bottom of the dehydrator while warming the lasagne. Depending on the height of the bowl, there's two trays gone; one left for the lasagne because of height. Hmmm. I wanted to heat the fruit pie also. *sigh* Guess I'll have to wait. :)

OK...see I never thought about it like that! I'm so glad I asked! I owe myself about $200 for a beach trip I was supposed to take at the end of this month, well the "ladies beach trip" fell through, and I asked hubby if I could still use my $$$...."of course" he says (he loves me ;) ) So I guess I'll wait just a couple of weeks till I have all my $$$ together! I knew I could count on ya'll for the right answers. And your right about warming soups and desserts with dishes, cause once I get one, I know I'll use it for ALLLL of that! ;)
