Hi everyone,
I did a search with the banana icon, buti could not find what i was looking for. my sister informed me that someone she knows is dealing with a daughter suffering of anorexia right now. I would like to know if you guys have any links of people who have healed themselves through raw and living foods. i believe it 100%, but for some people who know nothing about raw and living foods, would there be a testimony out there that my sister could send them? Please and thanks,

I just read an article on this but I can't remember where! Sorry. If I do, I'll let you know.
Basically the article stated that eating raw was great for people recovering from eating disorders because you could eat all that you wanted and not worry about calories, fat, etc.

for 4 years. I was bulimic from 1999-2003. I have to say that with eating disorders there is always something psychological causing it, so diet is only part of the healing. She definetly needs to see a psychologist. I was able to get well cold turkey with out any relapses, but thats because I wanted to get better. Most of the girls out there don't want this and it makes it 100X harder to heal. Raw might help with healing physical aspects that need it, but make sure she sees a Dr. too. I had a severe electrolyte balance after a week of recovery, my legs, ankles, and stomach collected so much water, that I had to go into emergency. The Dr. said if I waited much longer I would have had a heart attack. Scaaaary stuff. I am still suffering from severe physical problems because of this disease like liver and kidney problems, digestive issues, severe immunodificiency(I have a rare, rare infection of epstein barr in my brain that effects only 1% of our population), and other stuff...but eating 100% raw has helped so much. I have a long way to go, but raw helped me and it can help her too. Just make sure she doesn't use it as a crutch to control herself. Good Luck!!

I suffered from anorexia as well as bulimia. I'll say that eating raw definitely helped in the worrying aspect and allowed me to eat more and not feel AS guilty. She does need the psychologist for some additional help because it's not about the food itself. Mentally eating raw foods helps your brain chemicals, lifts mood, and therefore can help with the psychological point of anorexia and emotional issues. You can email me if you'd like dreamer4life1522@yahoo.com because I don't know how to PM or update my journal here yet.
:( I had anorexia / bulimia in the late 70's early 80's for 7 years and still struggle with it on occasion. I am definatley an emotional eater. There are some really good books out there for people with eating disorders. Geneen Roth's "When Food is Love" and she has some other ones as well. Highly recommend
There are groups out there for support, athough I found the groups before I wanted to get better an excellent source of how to get worse  Private councelling to learn how to accept and respect oneself is a huge step for most anorexics. ( for evert one really)
There are several articles on the net about obsesive eating and raw.
It is pretty hard to binge on carrots and red peppers, I have found it impossible actually.

I am currently suffering from bulimia, but so far with eating raw, it has gotten a little better. It's a challenge not to could calories and to get rid of the urge to binge and purge, but eating raw is helping me get better. I dont think it will ever go away, because ill still be thinking about it, but im hoping to recover by eating raw.
One down point is that with anorexia, you try to eliminate food groups. And by eliminating cooked food, she could make it worse, but it could also get a lot better because she'd be feeling better about the food she's eating.

I too suffered with an eating disorder. Raw has definitely helped me feel more comfortable about eating. Psychologically it helps me know that I'm doing something good for my body that won't harm me. I would suggest talking to Robyn at aware eating. I think someone posted the web-site link.
Another thing that may help her is www.hacres.com. It includes 15% cooked food- will help with some calories.
