Date question

When a recipie calls for dates am I to assume it means dried dates ? And if the the recipie calls for Medjool dates then that means the dates in the produce department? I don't have Alissa's book yet and I'm just gathering food ideas online for now.

If you can get them organic, so much the better. The fresher ones are softer. There are quite a variety of them. If you can't find Medjools, substitute something else. I tend to soak mine as dates are dried.
