I may be out of line here, as I haven't done my research ---yet ----- but was excited to share this and thought maybe someone else may make a phone call or two as well:
I buy kelp for my chickens and to add to my garden and mineralize the soil. I buy 50 lb bags at the chicken feed place and it is $43.
Now from time to time, I scoop a little out and eat it myself. It's less than
$1/lb. Years ago I bought a one-lb packet from Frontier and it was something like $8/lb and looked/tasted exactly the same.
The thing I need to research is: what temp do they dry this stuff, and although I suspect they do not need to spray it after harvesting, will also ask.
Interestingly, it is in my garage, often in an unopen bag and no critters seem to bother it.
So, although you wouldn't want to buy a 50-lb bag ---well maybe you would, if you have a garden ----you could always ask some organic chicken people around you if they have any. This way you could get a couple lbs for a couple bucks, which would go a long way.
HTH,
