...I left some raw honey, raw coconut oil and raw yacon syrup in the car in New Mexico heat for several hours. Should I just toss them and get new ones or am I being ridiculous? :p

Had they ever been opened before? If it was new stuff that hadn't been opened yet, I'd say no. If it had been opened before the question is how scrupulously clean are you in your food prep? If other food or maybe a tasted from spoon has entered those jars I'd pitch 'em. And I have a notoriously cast iron system.

I assume you are worried that they got cooked and are no longer raw. They may have but is it worth tossing them when they will still have some nutitional value? I would use them and next time just keep a cooler in the car even if you don;t put ice in it ,it will help them stay cooler.

I seriously doubt if the honey or coconut oil went bad, if anything the coconut oil would go rancid if left at room temp for a long time but you would be able to smell and taste it, anyways that would take a few months. And honey raw or not - never, ever goes bad.

I have heard that at temperatures above 118 degrees Fahrenheit damage occurs to raw foods.

I'd eat em!
Cept for the honey, but that's not because it was left out.

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. They had all been openend. There was crystal manna too. Hmm mixed answers, but mostly all say to go ahead and eat them. Thanks!

Hi Julie,
I am new to Raw..
I wondered what Crystal Manna was? Is this a Raw bread?
I'd use them and learn my lesson! :)

I might give them to a non rawber.....
New mexico is really hot - like, in the 100's right?
In the car - it could have gotten up to 180 or something I'm thinking - I know cars in chicago can get to 140 pretty easily, and pets and children do die in hot cars.
So - how hot was it out, how long were they there, and about what temp do you reckon the car was when you retrieved them?
If they were in over 125 for more than and hour, I wouldn't use them. Might as well steam your veggies if raw doesn't REALLY matter....
Just my 2 cents.
