Has anyone hit the WALL with losing weight? I lost about 14 pounds and I'm stuck on 181 now for 10 days or so. Suggestions or experiences would be appreciated. Some call it a PLATEAU. I'd like to start dropping again. I have maintained the raw diet now for over 4 weeks.

First of all you've done GREAT with releasing that much weight in only 4 weeks! Second, plateaus do happen with any program where the intent is to drop some weight. Can be discouraging while it's going on, but you know, you get past this and all of a sudden, several more pounds come off. Since this is a new lifestyle for you, your body is doing massive recalibration right now. Going raw is a lot bigger step than people realize! Might be some inner housecleaning and healing going on before any more weight comes off. The body in its tremendous wisdom decides just what the schedule is, as in "oh, this first month I'll just move those 14 pounds out of the way before I attend to those clogged arteries, etc." - LOL! Just keep on rawking, eat but don't OVER eat, and the weight will move again. Drink plenty of water too - this will help move things along, as released toxins need to be washed away with water. Are you exercising at all? This is the other huge part of the equation, and for us mature women it is just as important as our diet no matter if we wish to maintain, gain, or release weight. Hope this helps!

Exercise is a vital component of any weight-loss regimen, and of health, period.

The advice you were given is very good, but you might also take a look at your exercise regimen--shake it up and try something different, so your body doesn't get too accustomed to what you've been doing. Changing up your exercise routine can jump-start your metabolism.

When I started adding a tablespoon or two of coconut oil to my smoothies, it seemed to jumpstart my weight loss. I don't know if it would do that for everyone, but it has helped me.

When I get stuck at a weight I always think about where I was at emotionally/spiritually/intellectually the last time I weighed that much. I think our bodies retain memories on some sort of physical level. And I think it's important to sit down with all that stuff and let it go, let it move on, so that we can move forward.

Beyond that, are you exercising at all? Are you drinking plenty of fluids? Are you being nice to yourself?

You certainly have been given some good information to ponder. I used to be a weight loss consultant and I found that plateaus are not all bad. I like what Cara said. Skin has a chance to start shrinking back to a health size during a plateau and your body seems to need to have time to grasp that something new and good is happening. It wants to maintain equiliberism... stay the same. So sometimes it will hang on to water weight to keep the weight level.

You might want to observe whether you are getting enough calories too. Too few will put you into starvation mode. If you suspect that is the case then increase the amount of healthy raw food you are eating. Be cautious as Cara has said overdoing it won't help either. We have been designed for balance.

When I had my clients increase their food intake by about 100-200 calories, they started dropping weight again. It was uncanny the way that happened! Apparently they were not eating enough to support their new active and healthier lifestyle and their body thought it was being starved.

I am in the same boat as you, even with that "diet consultant" background. Medical reasons have put me into a bind. Now I need to master things like insulin resistance! God Bless your Journey! BelleSong

another trick to kickstart weight loss is cycling your calories. the body gets used to receiving the same amount of calories every day. In that case it can be good to have 2 to 3 days where you eat more and then eat lighter on the remaining days, but not to the extent where you feel really hungry.

Also, exercising has a cumulative effect, so if you don't have time to do a 30 minute block break it down into 3 x 10 or 2 x 15 minutes. If you have a dog I'm sure they would love to go for a walk with you.http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/dog.gif (http://www.millan.net)

I know to so many people the number of our pounds is so important. I learned many yrs ago to go by my size & body shape/feeling vs the pounds. It can depress us & force us to back to unwanted habits. I was 152lbs but wore a size 10!
Try to focus on how you feel/look. Your body may need a break. I've not weighed myself at all but am down 3 sizes since December...2 more sizes & I'll be pre-pregnancy size. I do not care how much I weigh. I'm taking my time so I do risk regaining it. Keep up the good work, you've done great.
