burping durian

Okay, I hope this isn't a silly question, but I have a question about digestion and burping. I had durian for breakfast this morning at around 8:00. Now it's 12:30PM, and I'm still burping the flavor of durian. Does that mean that the durian isn't fully digested yet? If so, then durian must take a long, long time to digest unlike most fruit which digests within an hour.

Hi Mel!

I had durian for the first time in my live about a month ago, but it was for dinner. I only had like a really really small piece, because I didn't really like it... I didn't eat after that for a couple of hours, and in the late evening I had two bananas. I didn't notice burping, but went #2 before I went to bed and twice again the morning after... so with me it digested very fast... although I didn't eat a lot...

that's my experience with it...

I just came across this old post.

I had a few bites of durian for breakfast the other day and thought it was very yucky, so had to compost the rest.

I burped the flavor ALL DAY!!! :eek:

speaking of durians I've been trying to find one in the Seattle area. A friend of mine is Asian and her mom goes to the Asian stores all the time. She called a few of them and they said the only way to get them is to import them. It's possible we might find some at a more "hole in the wall" place but if I don't, does anyone know anywhere I can order one online? If not, I guess I should ask first what can I expect to pay for one, and second if it's something I want to pay would anyone be willing to ship one to me? lol I know I may not like it but I'm just so intrigued by this thing that I have to try one.

I bought mine at an asian market in philadelphia for about $4.50.... apparently this is a very good price. I have heard of people paying up to $15.... and would guess that if you order it online you can expect the higher part of the price range. I also know there are a variety of types of durian. <sigh> if you weren't across the country i would have gladly given the rest of mine :p

Hi Flyinon,

You can buy them at a little asian market in Lacey, about 15 minutes south of Tacoma off of I-5, it is located on Marvin and Pacific, right next to the Happy Teriyaki across the street from Cut Rate auto, it is on the northwest corner of the street.

Hope this helps, unfortunately I don't remember the name of the place, but you might try calling that particular Happy Teriyaki and asking them.

Good luck, Oh, they have them for about $10 each, they are huge. I personally don't care for them, but you can certainly buy them there, along with lots of really strange veggies, and fruits I have never seen before. I have been buying there for years.
