I needed a cool, refreshing drink. Lemonade sounded good. Jazzed it up with frozen raspberries.

1 lemon (cut off yellow peel leaving the white pith)
1 heaping tablespoon of Really Raw honey (farm honey)
4 cups water
1 cup frozen raspberries

Put in blender and whiz on high speed. Add about 8 ice cubes and blend some more. Serve over more ice, with a straw or long spoon to keep it stirred up.

Thinking about making a quart of herb tea to chill and use next time in place of plain water. Rooibos or cranberry tea might good.

Looking for more ideas.... What are you drinking for refreshment in this summer heat?

that recipe sounds wonderful!
Something really simple that really helped me during the hot dry New Mexico summers was just lemon or lime juice in ice water. Simple, and alkalizing to boot. Add just a pinch of salt, and a little healthy sweetener for further help. One can also add a packet of Emergen-C(powdered vitamin C - electrolyte supplement) to it too if you've really been out there active and sweating.
An acupuncturist friend of mine also suggested a drink of raisins and fennel seeds soaked in water to add moisture during hot dry weather. It was very good, and soothing to boot. Fennel seeds are great for one's digestion too - that's why you often see a plate of them when you leave an Indian restaurant.

It's sooo hot here! I have a big insulated bottle with ice cubes, water and lemon juice in it. I can't stand sweet drinks.

We don't get a whole lot of hot weather here in Montana. High only in the 70s today, but last week we were in the 90s and most people, us included, do not have air conditioning! So it was a bit uncomfortable. The most refreshing thing I have had, besides water, was fresh made lime-ade made with stevia to taste, then frozen solid, then whizzed in the vitamix till you have a lime slushy. YUM!

Thanks, everyone. I should have looked at your responses before making another pitcher of pink lemonade. Celery and fennel juice with a squeeze of lime on ice sounds great.

Don't know why I didn't think of using stevia instead of honey. I've got a stevia plant out on the deck. It is so hot out there I have to water it twice a day.

There will be plenty more opportunities to try all your ideas. Here around Puget Sound most of us don't have air conditioning and we are cooking. It was 93 today and it is expected to reach over 100 by the end of the week.

One thing that always chills me down from the inside out is a banana shake. Maybe not the best if you're thirsty, but definitely great for cooling off.

2 frozen bananas
2 tbsp. almond butter
Squeeze of agave syrup
Dash of vanilla extract
1/2 cup of water or so, depending on how thick you like it

Whir it up in the blender and you're all set. I like it thick like a frosty and eat it with a spoon. Yum!:D

Annmarie did a really good smoothie on the renegade health show. It was pineapple, cucumber, raspberries and a little honey. I love it!

My favorites are watermelon juice, water with sliced lemons and limes or apple/lemon/ginger juice whirled in the blender with spinach and ice.
