The first one is: some people say that they eat a pound of greens a day. My question is how? In a smoothie, salad, juice it or just a variety of ways? I mean take a pound of spinach, that is ALOT of Spinach!! Even to make it into a smoothie, I would have to add water, bananas and other fruit to make it palpable for me. So how do you do it?
The other question concerns juicing. When you all juice say spinach or kale or any green for that matter do you just juice that green? Or do you add apples or cucumber or something that has a higher water (juice)content to (for lack of better term) extend it?
I was just wondering what everyone else did. I know that there is no right or necessairly wrong way just different ways that work for different people.

Most people on this forum are rather obsessed with the need for green in their diet. Try to think about how a person in prehistoric times would eat. Do you think they would eat a pound of greens a day? No. They would eat a pound or more of fruit a day, a handful of nuts, some greens for good measure. Think about it some more. What would a prehistoric human want to eat more? Green leaves or a fresh ripe fruit from a tree?
You don't need that many greens in your diet. You simply need a minimum of 10% green in your diet. That means adding just enough greens to a smoothie to give it that color.

Your smoothies should consist of mostly fresh fruit. Again, only add enough green to give it a nice bold green color. If your smoothie tastes like leaves, you're overdoing it.
I eat, what I consider to be, a lot of greens every day. I mix them in my smoothie and now I try to have a green juice. I figure I get possibly 8 ounces of greens. I'm happy with that.
I've read (I think V'Boutenko) say 1# of greens a day - but doesn't she drink 2-3 big smoothies a day? I'm doing good with my 1 smoothie ~ wink! *Ü*

I would say that I probably do about 8oz as well, but... 2-3 smoothies with about a pound total. I'm thinking that it wouldn't taste very good to me. I add lots of fruit to make mine taste good to me. I will eat spinach as a salad etc, but in a smoothie it doesn't taste too good to me, however I love how it makes me. And I especially like how it makes me feel full for a long time. I'm not one to do things because other do, I was just wondering how others can. Personally, I don't see myself doing it. But I do think I will check out Victoria's book. I have heard it is a very informative book.

did you ever stop to think that there were no supermarkets in this mythical land of yours?
Greens would have been almost ALWAYS available in great abundance, whereas fruits would be ripe and delicious for only so long per fruit type. It tastes terrible, then it's ripe and delicious for days to a week, then it is rotten.
And pre-cultivation - there would be plenty of competition from animals for the fruits.

Typically, I probably eat about 6-8 cups of green per day - sometimes more, sometimes less.
Don't know how much that weighs.....greens are pretty light!
I love salads, and have 2-4 per day most days. Green smoothies - typically 1-3 per day, anywhere from 16 to 32+ oz. I use a little less greens when I'm sharing with the kids.....

I would have to say I also get about 8 oz of greens a day. Mostly in salads as I love salads and the variety I get. I am still trying out and adding different greens to my variety.
As good as smoothies are suppose to be I shy away from them because of the taste. I think I put to much green in it maybe. Maybe I will try again tonight with less green and more blueberry.

Hi Mamoo ~ My green smoothies have a lot of fruit in them. I usually add 4 different kinds of greens ~ then I start adding the fruit. Today I added 1 white peach (super sweet), 1 banana, some frozen smoothie fruit I get at Costco, pineapple and frozen blueberries.
For my taste, if I added just blueberries I wouldn't care for the sweetness level. I do have a big sweet tooth though. I just add some fruit and then taste it - if it's not sweet enough or still tastes too green, I just keep adding fruit. Today's GS was over 2 quarts - yum! *Ü*

I'm trying to get greens in every day, but I'm still trying to get used to the bitterness of some greens. I adore big salads with romaine lettuce but I mix romaine and other greens now (usually kale or collard greens, since those are the ones that are most available in my area) in my salads to get a variety. If you consider romaine greens (and I do), I'd say I get probably about 6 cups a day - 1 cup of spinach in my morning smoothie, 3 cups of romaine and 2 cups of other greens in my afternoon salad. I think once I get used to the bitterness of greens I'll like them, though, since I love crunch firm vegetables.

My goal is to just get greens everyday. I usually range from 1/2 to 1 whole bunch of greens per day. I also don't always have one type of green either. Yesterday it was chard and parsley in a smoothie, the day before it was mint and collards. One day I had celery and called it good. From just doing this I feel great. Last time I was raw days may have gone by with hardly much greens and I believe it was part of the reason I didn't do so well. Maybe some day I will be able to eat 1-2 pounds of greens per day and if that is the case great... I will see where my raw journey takes me. For now my mind and body are happy with the greens I am giving it.

*GREENS are key to a raw diet. IF you want to clean and detoxify as much as you can plus get all your nutrients and protein needs. Greens do alot. They also take away cravings and give you clear skin....oh my..greens, I cant say enough.
Spinach and banana and coconut oil and hempseed in a blender..ooo la la
I currently drink many quarts of green juice per day. I am hard core. Greens sometimes alone and sometimes with apple. Clery and ginger work well also. I actually added a banana to my juice yesterday before I pressed it out and it made it a lil sweet without the heaviness of a smoothiness..nce n light which I llove! Smoothies have been too heavy for me for quite some tme. SO I am now on juice. Loving it.
* my thoughts based on my almost two yr experience on raw

Can you blend them into soups with tomatoe and basil added plus soy sauce, lemon, garlic and miso if you have it? Yum!
Rawrawks: - when you use the coconut oil does it blend well? I have a heavy duty blender and I still get bits not blended in. Do you use ice? (I think that might also be the problem for me).

I find that a bunch of greens is about 3/4 or 1 lb. That is about right for one smoothie for me. I also put greens in salads or mix with zucchini for pasta.
