......with this no shampoo thing!? I tried to search that old thread about the no poo...but couldn't find it.....

anyone know how long it takes until your hair stops being so greasy!!?
I'm doing the baking soda and then rinsing with ACV......

I'm just about ready to throw in the towel and go ahead and shampoo....it's been almost a week ...........!!!Maybe this is just one of those things i'm just not gonna give up......

Probably depends a lot on what kind of hair you have to begin with. I no longer use anything at all on my hair (wavy ringlets with tendenc to be dry and frizzy) and it's never been healtier looking. If it is stinky (been around smokers etc) then I clean it with a bar of natural soap.

I have found it to look best after being in natural water--a lake, river, ocean, rain..so perhaps also consider the type of water you are rinsing with. ALso a cold water rinse makes a big difference in shininess and tight curls for my hair.

I know I didn't answer your questions, but I'm looking forward to those replies that do!=)>

it takes a while for your scalp to adjust to not having to produce so much oil due to the drying effects of shampoo. if you can stick it out for a while longer i think it's worth it, a good time investment for a lifetime of no shampoo afterwards!

Thick, i have longish curly hair too, how do you make the no conditioner thing work for you? i need it to get a brush through, i need to brush it to get the fallen out hairs out! otherwise it is a big nappy mess of tangles, not so nice.

I have fine straight hair.... I usually shampoo daily, the next morning it is already greasy! I'll try the soap....but I'm this close to shampooing!!! lol

I haven't used shampoo or conditioner for around 6 months, My hair was never overly greasy, but at the start it did get greasy if I didn't wash my hair for a couple of days.

It no longer really gets greasy, but it took quite a while (maybe a month or so?), and I was using ACV and occasionally Dr Bronner's every now and then when it got bad.

These days I use literally nothing except warm water, and sometimes ACV (for a deeper clean or if it's looking a little dull), and occasionally if it gets a little dry I'll comb a little coconut oil through it then wash it out with warm/hot water (it looks slightly greasy for a day or so but goes shiny and glossy for ages afetrwards).

Also, I find what type of food you eat REALLY impacts on your hair health and whether the no poo way of hair care works properly.

I found that after being on 100% raw for a couple of months, like many other things (including high powered deodorant etc) I just didn't need to wash my hair as much, then I gradually reduced washing until I just washed everyday with warm water.

I'd say stick with it, your hair takes time to get used to it. And the cleaner you eat, the less greasy your hair will be too.

Hope this helps! :D

definitely stick it out! They say 4-8 weeks until it really gets better with the grease! Especially if you were one to shampoo every day!! I would definitely agree mine took at least 6 weeks for all the grease to be gone completely. I think it took a good 3 months before I loved it.

I am going on 8 months now and it's great!!!!

really do try and stick it out - but if worse comes to worse just use conditioner. Shampoo is completely unnecessary!!!! I know I had a bit of time where my hair was really at wits end..completely dull and it was the middle of a horrible winter - I appeased it with a condition.

Mine is fine & straight also. It took a while to get use to it. I was cleaning it daily w/bs & vinegar rinse. It wasn't doing too good. I started just doing a water rinse for 2 days & 'cleaning it' every 3 days. Now that it's hot & I'm sweaty, I do need to do it every other day bc of itching in the scalp.
so..try water rinse every other day. My hair actually looks better on water only days.
I've noticed that the hair on my legs & underarms is not as coarse & I can go an extra day or so without shaving.

Hello! After reading this I decided to research this a little and give it a try. I had told my sister about four days after I stopped shampooing and she thought it was gross that my hair was so greasy. Then about a week and a half later I went back over there and was like "How's my hair look?" She said "Good! I'm glad your shampooing again..." I havn't shampooed in 2 weeks haha! :) It still gets a little greasy but it really feels good and soft and I'm lovin it =]

lol for some people it won't ever stop being greasy. Use mild castile soap once in a while to wash.

i went 10 months without any soap of any kind on my head and was still a grease ball. i just water rinsed and brushed my hair although i didn't brush it daily like some people say is a must..100 strokes per day.
finaly i washed my hair with regular shampoo and head weighed a lot less afterwards and felt fantastic. been shampooing ever since.

i have some of that castile soap here.. i'm going to try it and see how it feels.

i went to a book signing and bought the book but lent it out... it's a local surgeon who shared info on holistic methods. he said it takes 6 months after ban of deodorant for you to put out a natural odor and one that doesn't stink. he recommends not to use anything to mask odor etc regardless or else it wouldn't work.
i tried it for about 3 months and although i rarely ever smell n my arm pits.. i couldn't get past the feeling of not having it on.

he's against all soap except for hands and hair. i don't remember his name for a referance.

On days we do not go any place, which is rare, I do not use deoderant. I tell you...I can smell myself. I don't think anyone would talk to us if I went without it. I would love to go without deo...cost less, one less thing in my body.
MY dd has not had shampoo in about 4 months, occ castile soap. Everyone compliments on her hair. I think I'm going to try not starting dd on deo when she's older. She's veggie but not raw, make her eggs when she asks for it--about twice a week. I can go a few days without bathing her & she doesn't smell like other kids so hopefully she won't develop underarm smell.

i'm so lucky, i haven't used deodorant in years and i nearly never smell. only if i have a seriously stressful experience and then i'm nasty!

i want to no poo but right now i am not even rinsing my hair weekly, more like every two weeks. i brush it out and tie itup and leave it be. if i were rinsing it more often i think i could no poo but now i need to clean it well with shampoo when i do wash it.

I so wish I had 'pull back hair'! When we go to the beach, my dd says my hair looks like a cat sucked on it. If I had that kind of hair & face, I know I could a good week without cleaning it. I clean dd's about 2x week...when it smells or starts to look greasy. She wears it up most of the time. I this was so great..today she said that eventhough she doesn't like the smell of ACV on her hair or skin, it does feel better & is softer so she guesses she'll keep it up. Yeah!! She loves the coconut oil on her skin..potatoes too;)

My hair is long, volumeouse and very, very stubborn. I have never shampood it more than twice a week or so but I have always needed to use conditioner in order to be able to coam it afterwards. The natural shampoo makes it even worse :-(

I've been around a few people who don't use deodorant, are 100% raw, and think they don't smell...they do, and I wish they'd start using some kind of deodorant, even a natural one such as Tom's!

i KNOW i don't smell. i had a boyfriend who loves a stinky arm pit and he'd get so frustrated with me for being odourless, even after working up a good sweat i usually smell like nothing. ha ha, it was pretty funny.

I've been at several different HFSs and could not agree with you more! Some smell like not like bad sweaty BO, but just stale BO - maybe it's their clothes they are not washing?...and then there are the patchoulli smelling ones (they MUST be covering some odor up!) phew!

Just a little bit of whatever your pleasure is...and wear clean clothes in regular public...please

Maybe they're not washing at all & just water doing all of it. They may not be water bathing for days or washing their clothes.
I volunteer & at a HS class on Thursday. some of these kids smell so something, it's difficult to be around them.

Hey! Wait a minute! I've worn Patchouli for years and years and years and years. It's my "trade" scent. I'm not covering anything up.

::sniffs under arm::

Nope, not covering nuffin up!!!
