View Full Version : Yellow stained palms - too much Vitamin A or Carotene?

Noticed this morning some quite pronounced yellow patches have appeared overnight on the palms of my hands and sides of my fingers - embarrassingly the sides of my 1st and 2nd finger look nicotine stained (since I successfully gave up a 15-year habit 19 months ago, I can guess anyone noticing it will think I've started up on the sly!).

I'm sure it's too much Vit.A and/or carotene in my new diet, something I need to balance out. I do so love carrot though......and vegetable juice which contains carrot juice (I also use a little carrot juice to "dilute" green smoothies whilst I ease my way into the acquired taste - pure green smoothies do make me gag still)

Anything else I should beware of that isn't so obvious as carrots?

Usually that is a sign from your liver and that it's stressed. I would check with a doctor.

My eyes are fine and my face, so I think it is too much carrot rather than jaundice (liver) - probably because it's quite a sweet taste to tone down some of the stronger tastes of some raw food so I reckon I've just overdone it...

So I've not bought any carrots this week, though there are a couple left in the fridge I'll use them sparingly (instead of the "peel two carrots, one for the meal, one to chomp on now" approach that always tempts me)

But don't dark green vegetables also contain carotene too? Or perhaps it's lycopene which, if I have to avoid tomato juice would be like the police imposing a ban on doughnuts

I've never heard of anyone having this happen just on their hands and I know alot of people who drink alot more carrot juice than you mentioned you were drinking so the thought that came to me while reading your post was that maybe after smoking for 15 years your hands are getting rid of something that built up in them during that 15 year period. Maybe it's the carrot juice that's helping you to cleanse it out. Just another idea/thought. As someone else mentioned.....yellow skin is a sign of things going on with your liver.....so maybe trying an herbal formula that helps to cleanse and support the liver would be a good idea right now. I bet you wake up one day and find the coloring gone just as quickly as is came. Good luck!

I've notice a yellowed appearance on the soles of my feet and a bit around my underarms.....ongoing for at least a month or two....

So i'm interested in hearing other thoughts on this. I don't eat carrots hardly at all....
