I decided to start this thread as inspiration for those of us still attempting to be 100%.

What foods/habits were the hardest for you to give up when you started going raw? What substitutes did you use or how did you ultimately overcome the cravings?

For me, my biggest non-raw loves are cooked chick peas, peanut butter, Ezekial sprouted bread (it's not close to raw but really close), and jam....

I've been lucky enough to enjoy raw enough or find substitute's that I didn't have an issue. I don't know why, but just found raw to be the easiest health diet of them all.

Almond butter is a good replacement for peanut butter or David Wolfe has a peanut butter w/raw nuts, Love force has good flat breads or you can make something yourself or use nori sheets or lettuce leaves, jam is easy-just combine fruit w/sweetener in blender. Just in case you were looking for some ideas. :)

Ah, why didn't I ever consider that alternative for jam?? I even have raw honey!

Almond butter tastes so bland to me...I'll have to look into those flat breads. My treat is pb&j, and I need to find something else or just cut it all together....

there's a thread with a recipe in the active threads right now... for pb&j and bread. :)

i found that going raw was pretty easy... ya there were a few tough moments but i really wanted to gain health... and the weight release was such an added bonus... i just didn't want those old out-moded habits of SAD eating in my life anymore.

Rice and potatoes. I enjoyed them, but they are no good raw and they drove up my triglycerides and cholesterol. I cannot say that I have found substitutes or have given up the cravings.

Almond butter tastes so bland to me. Which brand(s) have you tried? They each have a different flavor. Maybe try adding some salt or sweetener.

If I dont have the time or the will to make raw substitutes or go to a raw restaurant then I'll still have maybe a rice cracker, steamed yam, but if you have enough recipes and substitutes it is actually very easy to do.

I use Trader Joe's raw almond butter. Perhaps I'll add some kind of sweetener...I also really love cashew butter, which is hard to find raw for a reasonable price, and I guess I could buy my own raw cashews and make it, but I don't have the right equipmet for that (i.e. an expensive food processor).

Hot........buttery.......potatoes........with gravy dripping down the sides. Don't even try to push no cauliflower or jicama on me. I like them but they do NOT taste anything remotely like hot........buttery......potatoes.

I think the hardest things for me have been pizza, cheese in general, rice and beans.

I really miss a cup of coffee more than anything. It's not even the caffeine. It's the flavor. Right now it's my only "cheat" that I indulge in sometimes.

It's pretty amazing really. I'm a total fiend for sugar and salt but have lost my cravings since going raw a week ago.

pizza & mayo. I live in the south so I'm a Duke's mayo girl. I do miss it on tomato sandwiches with lettuce. THe best thing is I don't miss the bread!

hahahahaha I know what you mean, cauliflower doesn't even come close!! I have yet to try jicama. I was a huge potato fan... still am ..
when I have had a really bad day I have bought organic potatoes and vegan butter...
COFFEE ... or anything with caffeine in it .. its my crack and I still haven't fully let go...

For me it's the starchy, crunchy snacks like pretzels, breadsticks, and crackers. I've tried all the flax dehydrated stuff but it's not the same. I'm all raw besides those cheats and I'm sort off okay with that.

Me too.

I try to make the corn chips in the dehydrator 'do it' for me on this, but they don't, not really... avoidance just works best, I'm afraid.

Pepperoni pizza keeps tugging but I ask myself which choice I want to make: a moment on the lips or health & wellness ? For me its an obvious choice but I just have to stop and think about it for a moment so that I keep making the choice that makes the most sense in terms of having a healthy future.
