i'm retaining some water with this pregnancy. i had a SAD salad dressing when we were out the other night (combined with the heat of summer) ::) and well... let's say i see it wasn't the best choice. oh well... what's done is done.

any ideas on the best way to reduce the retention?

i've been eating heaps of lychee, persimmons, blueberries and now i'm eating a few peaches. i'm finding that when i drink anything... i get a tummy ache, so i'm more into doing this with food if possible.

i have been having a green smoothie every morning but didn't have time to make one before work today... i'll have one when i get home. (ya it gives me a tummy ache as well... but the babe has got to have her greens!!!)

Watermelon is a natural diuretic. During a previous pregnancy, while having issues with edema in my legs, a midwife told me to drink the packaged liquid chlorophyll (from alfalfa but im sure not raw) and it really did help me so much. My point being that the chlorophyll in greens might also help.

When you say you have a tummy ache--is it pain in your stomach, bloating, gas pains, nausea? I hope not all of the above=)>

When you say that when you drink anything your stomach hurts--did you mean that you didn't want to drink something people might suggest like ginger tea--or did you mean that when you drink anything your tummy hurts? Even water?

Cucumbers and watermelon are what my midwife always recommended. If she had a mom come in with high blood pressure, like pre-eclampsia, she would put her on a cucumber and watermelon fast till the numbers and swelling came down.

fasting helps fast and easy.A water fast would help you really well if you'd like to do it. Yes, even when you have a baby in your tummy :) I did it too and it was great! Get well soon!

when i drink anything first thing in the morning... my tummy aches like it's sore. (bruised kinda feeling)... but later in the day i'm fine to drink. weird eh? i've taken that as a sign that my body doesn't anything first thing so i'm waiting a few hours to start drinking/eating now. (when i was fasting i always started my day with a litre of water... so this is a new thing for me)

good to hear about the chlorophyll...

i do lots of both... watermelon and cucumbers, but i'll definitely up them!!! thanks.

as for fasting... i would fast if my body was into it. my mind is totally into doing a fast, but my body says... NOPE. so i won't until i get a green light from my bod. ;)

Celery and banana smoothie. Or if you don't want liquid, celery, cucumber, tomato salad. I would incorporate lots of celery and melons in my diet to help with water retention. Also I'm sure you have been already, but cut the salt to none or a tiny bit.

that's a good attitude: just listen to your inner voice. Take care!

exactly. i would like to add though that i would never water fast while pregnant... especially during these first weeks when all the vital organs and brain cells are being created. i would consider a juice FEAST though... but again... only because i've fasted soooooooooo much in the past year (262 days)... so detox into babe is unlikely.

i would never suggest a SAD eater fast while pregnant...

well, I did and I felt just great.

i understand that... but i wouldn't want anyone to get the idea that we are suggesting they do that. after all... they are growing a babe... you need nutrition to feed that growing fetus. pregnancy is not a time for fasting on water...

i'm not saying what you did is wrong... it was your choice. just don't want anyone thinking we are suggesting someone else does it.

try elevating your feet at pm. I did this while preg & it helped. Just returned from a 13-14 hr each way trip. My ankles were swollen, I drove & few stops. The next pm, I elevated my feet on 3 pillows. Next am, I had ankles!! Now I try to do this every pm. May not help but worth the try.

Parsley, Parsley Tea...........

parsley won't work. when you are pregnant you have to watch the parsley as it can cause your uterus to go into contractions and premature labour.

that's interesting.hmmmm....is it because we are on the net? I don't think we should feel responsible for what the others might or might not do. After all, it's their decision. I can only tell them my opinion and what they do with it is their decision alone.
I would always encourage people to do what their inner voice tells them to do.

We have different opinions on the subject but I love you anyway, dear Aleesha. May your pregnancy be a beautiful and a HAPPY one. Take care, Eva
