Why are dried tomatoes always sun dried?
Are they really dried by the sun, or do they just parade dehydrated tomatoes out into the sun for the last 30 minutes so they can put that on the package?
Does sun drying impart any benefits?
Does anyone sun dry their own tomatoes - or store bought tomatoes?
What is the dealio here???
Clue me in....
I dry mine in the dehydrator... but, my husband wants to make something so we can sun dry.
We had an exchange student from Tajikistan and he said everyone sun dries fruits and veggies up on their roofs! *Ü*

i only saw a few minutes of the episode on tv/cable, but it was about a sun dried tomato co. and they showed the process. they were placed out raw and sun dried for days at least..perhaps a week or more. maybe there's a video on youtube about it.

"Sun dried" assures that the temperature hasn't been as high as it is for 'normal' dehydrated items... so, it is still raw.
You can dry your own tomato halves in the dehydrator, of course, just keep the temp down! :)
