I have two new books, The Secret, and Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth. I'm wondering which one should I read first. What do yall think? They both sound so interesting.

You read only one book at a time? How is that possible? :p
I'd put one in the bathroom, and one in the other best reading place you have and read 'em both. They probably complement each other.

lol, maybe I'll do that. I was thinking they would compliment each other, but maybe one might be recommended before the other, I don't know. :)

Wow, the comment from Roman, harsh! You read both and draw your own conclusion about both books. I totally enjoyed the "Secret" and started attending Dr. Beckwith's spiritual center and found it very rewarding. he's one of the inspirational authors in the book. Enjoy reading.:)

I'm with MR on that one. Not so sure about his labels but I am not so enamored of the Secret. It was a huge cult when it first came out but I guess life came and bit a bunch of people in the butt and they had to start getting more realistic about it. I saw the Dr Beckwith on a TV show recently (think it was Oprah) and he must have been having a really bad day as his responses were weak and inappropriate. I was surprised. "The Secret" is basically the same stuff that some people have been saying for years but they say it a little different and it was the group effort and the marketing of it that displaced older social gurus and allowed this crop to have a chance at marketing their "help." The message is good for those who have never heard it before and taken with a grain of salt. Also I saw alot of it on the internet, in a movie and so on. Maybe the book presents it much better. Some people totally believed that if they truly changed themselves, their beliefs, that things would go their way and when things did not go their way they couldn't cope, kept considering that they had failed at practising the Secret, and there were some unpleasant consequences for those people.
Go ahead and read it and report back how you like it. Personally I do not have whatever it takes to read a book like that. Maybe in small portions while seated on the commode over several years. he he.

I guess it depends how you take it. I enjoyed the Secret and have put to use their version of the law of attraction which is all it is. What you focus on grows. If you focus on the negative it grows. I certainly didn't think I was going to become a millionaire just because I thought it:rolleyes:
I have heard Jack Canfield and John Demartini speak several times at chiropractic conventions and they have a good message. Do they deserve all the $$ they make from speaking?? Apparently they believe so:D

sit on the commode that long to read?
Best book about the making and creating our own future(and a New World)....the greatest story ever told and number one bestseller...yup you guessed it..the Bible. All we need.
i didn't see that as one of her choices arty.
i find that taking any book or belief system (talking about the secret here)... with a grain of common sense is always a good thing. i totally believe in the law of attraction. but it's not all you need in life. it certainly offers some good tools though, esp for those who haven't spent any time creating their own reality.
i create a collage for my desktop image on my computer. i change it every few months. i put pictures of things that i want to create in my life. sometimes it's pictures of woman in yoga postures, gorgeous retreat centres, perhaps a new computer etc. i find that - seeing it every day - assists me to draw these things into my life.
cause heck... every little bit helps!!!

I think the secret was a great blessing for the world in a time when people really needed it. Not everyone has known about the law of attraction, and this brought it to the masses. Yes, it was marketed in a certain way, but I think it had to be that way in order for the masses to take note of it. I think it focuses a little too much on the material aspects, but lots of little bits of truth found in the pages.
A New Earth is an amazing book, I recommend it highly.:)

I agree though, (with them)....why wouldn't they deserve it? Everyone deserves abundance, and they are out there speaking about things that can truly help people!

Yep. This idea that thought creates phyisical realities in a mechanical fashion is just plain silly. People afflicted with paranoia constantly think about calamities that never happen. People afflicted with mania always expect grandiose success, which never happens for them. The human mind is part of the network of life, it doesn't stand apart from it to exercise God - like powers. People seek for infinity in all the wrong places....the true Self is infinite, not the mind.

Mechanical positive thinking can enhance many psychological imbalences, just as unrealistic magical thinking. Jack Canfield is a big sweetheart of a man, I met him and as a person he is inspiring. The message...well, ask anyone who has done serious therapeutic work with people.
