and I feel SO sick...ugh, I bet I'll be vomiting shortly.
This is very discouraging! In preparation of going raw, I had sprouted a cup of 17 variety soup beans, not realizing that kidney beans were toxic!
UGH. I don't know if I can do this....

I did this a few days ago, but I didn't get sick. I maybe ate a cup's worth. I've asked about other beans/legumes in another thread, but no answers so far. I'm hoping split peas will be okay as I like their flavor raw.

I heard that kidney beans are the only kind of bean that is toxic when eaten raw. Split peas should be okay...ugh! I love beans, so I hope I can make something work!

Can you sprout split peas?
Yanno folks, raw beans, no matter how long you soak/sprout them will never taste liked cooked beans. You just cannot get the texture. Most of us don't bother.

Maybe I'm weird, but I really like to eat raw beans. Probably actually prefer them to cooked.

But, they don't taste like cooked beans which is what most people are trying to emulate, methinks.

You should try sprouted mung beans. I've been eating for lunch lately! I just drizzle some lemon juice, sea salt and chilli pepper(I suppose you can add whatever seasonings you want). I munch on them all day long!

ugh, I NEVER want to eat beans again! I just vomited everything up. What a sucky first day of going raw.
kidney beans are indeed toxic. so are raw sprouted soy. and so, to a lesser extent, are chickpeas though i read about people eating them all the time. the last won't make you sick, they are just very taxing on the system. not health-giving.
get a book on sprouting, as w any new thing it's good to read up.
and try sprouted lentils, they are my favourite. excellent in a salad w tomato and parsley, very tasty!

Oh you poor thing! I hope day two goes better, and I did not know that about kidney beans either. I tend to avoid beans anyway as they talk back to me, lol.

I haven't soaked any beans yet, but I plan to do so soon. I bought a sprouter last weekend. Just haven't done anything with it yet. It came with alfalfa seeds to sprout, but I am wanting to graduate quickly to beans.
What would be your best first try at bean sprouts?

I am so sorry about your start this way. Just hang in there, it will get better. Eventually you will feel so much better eating raw that it will be easy to laugh about your first day, even if you can't imagine that now!!!!!!!!

I can totally relate. When I first went raw (over 3 years ago) I sprouted black beans as that was a staple for me cooked. I vomited every 20 minutes that night. I don't do any sprouted beans now.
It gets so much better!!:)

I've been doing this and went through a pound of them this week! Literally! And I still have a few days to go!

Personally I LOVE sprouted beans and legumes, but you need to use beans that are relatively small like mung, lentils, whole peas, and adzuki. Anything much larger than a garbonzo bean will be too starchy. I get my bean sprouts from sproutpeople.com, but sproutman.com is a good source, too. I use Sprout People's San Francisco mix on all my salads and wraps - YUM.
