I have seen time and time again people talking about the use of Coconut oil in the raw food world but I have yet come across anyone talking about Organic Red Palm oil. I first learned about it a few years ago and I use it with my parrots and it is wonderful stuff with them here are some benefits of red palm oil.
Contains natural antioxidants that act as scavengers to mop up oxygen free radicals and are believed to play an important preventative role in cellular aging, arteriolsclerosis, and cancer.
Promotes weight loss and boosts metabolism
May help lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels.
Excellent stability at high temperatures.
Supports healthy blood circulation and blood sugar levels
Suitable for Vegan, Vegetarian, and Non-Dairy Diets
If its good for the parrots its got to be good for me too
I think I am going to start using it in my raw food diet.

it's also used as a laxative so perhaps start off using a little and see how it affects you. ;)

I found some interesting info here (http://www.junglepi.com/products/source_tour.html). They mention that many companies use a hybrid variety Tenera by crossing the Dura and Pisifera rather than using the Dura (which has been the standard one used in Africa for decades).

For me it was meat and meat products that would put me in so much pain that I thought I was giving birth. My Dr's advice was well stop eating meat Karma it's not good for you anyways.....After many years I finally took her advice...I haven't been back yet I wonder what she will think when she finds out I am now a Raw Foodist :D but I look at it this way I am following her advice...

Thanks for letting me know about the taste. I knew its benefits was similar to coconut oil and wanted to try it when cooking for DH instead of olive oil. But I had no idea how it tasted.

I've started sauteeing most of his foods in veggie broth, but may pick up some Red Palm Oil too.

I use this with my parrots too! I never thought of eating it myself...But it's so expensive, I'd rather spend the money on them. Especially since African Greys are thought to not do well without. Thought it was neat to see another parrot owner here :) Though I guess it shouldn't be surprising.

This is new-
Rainforest African Red Palm Oil. This is what they say - "Red palm oil is free of cholesterol and trans-fatty acids. Rich source of phytonutrients such as beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, vitamin E tocotrienols, lycopene, which act as a super-antioxidant.These carotenoids are responsible for the striking red colour of the oil."
Supposedly the taste is great and addictive:) Site is at

Let me know what you think...
